Process for the production of liquids and pastes with high capillary activity, especially high wetting, washing, cleaning, emulsifying and dispersing properties. It has been found that the soluble salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether are excellent for the manufacture of liquids and pastes of high capillary activity, in particular of high wetting, washing, cleaning,
Can serve emulsifying and dispersing. Such a compound has, for example, the formula Ci2H2rä - 0 # CH2 # OH (OH) # CH2.
0 # S0aNa. These compounds can be obtained by treating the glycerol monododecyl ether with sulfonating agents and neutralizing the sulfonation product with alkaline substances such as sodium hydroxide solution, soda and the like.
The alkali salts and the ammonium salts or their organic substitution products should preferably be used as salts.
The use of the soluble salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether here has many advantages over the use of conventional soaps and soap substitutes. The salts, for example, with the hardness formers of the water, do not produce any unpleasant precipitations, so that the dreaded lime soap formation is completely avoided. They give a stable, very dense foam, are readily soluble in cold water and have an excellent cleaning effect. Their network effect is just as excellent.
The liquids and pastes produced with the compounds mentioned can be used anywhere where soaps were previously used. As a result of their almost neutral reaction, they can be used with advantage to treat sensitive substances.
The liquids and pastes produced by the present process can be used, for example, for foam generation, for emulsifying, dispersing, impregnating, peptizing, stabilizing, leveling, distributing, dissolving and the like.
As a result of the wide range of uses of the soap, it is impossible to exhaustively enumerate the individual uses of the new liquids and pastes.
For the skilled person, the above-mentioned new knowledge and the working rule obtained therefrom is sufficient that wherever soaps have previously been used, the liquids and pastes made from the salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether can be used with advantage.
The liquids and pastes mentioned show their excellent efficacy even when they contain other substances, apart from water. So z. B. liquors are produced that contain other acidic, neutral and alka metallic substances in addition to water and the substances mentioned. : the presence of electrolytes such as lime, magnesia or other hardness builders is not a problem.
They can be used either on their own or in a mixture with other wetting agents, detergents, cleaning agents, emulsifiers and dispersants; Furthermore, per compounds, such as perborates, persulfates, percarbonates, and alkaline agents such as soda, trisodium phosphate, water glass, borax, or neutral agents such as sodium sulfate, or acidic agents, such as acid sodium sulfate, can also be added to the liquids and pastes mentioned.
It is also possible to add solvents such as organic hydrocarbons, alcohols and the like, or else urine or pancreatin.
Instead of the salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether, the salts of the sulfonation product consisting predominantly of these can also be used, which is used in the sulfonation of a mixture of higher glycerol monoalkyl ethers, as is the case with the etherification of a mixture of higher fatty alcohols containing predominantly dodecyl alcohol with glycerol is won.
The soluble salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether can be used alone or in a mixture with other additives in solid form, eg. B. in powder, flake, piece or noodle form, are placed on the market and used for the production of liquids and pastes of high capillary activity according to the present invention. But you can also already dissolved in liquids or in paste and cream form, such as in cosmetic preparations, polishes, soaps creams and the like, come into circulation.
Among other things, they are suitable for the manufacture of pasty tooth cleaning agents, shaving agents, shampoos and the like.
Examples: 1. Mix 7 parts of the sodium salt of the sulphonation product of glycerol monododecyl ether with a mixture of 28 parts of carrageenan gruel (1:19) and 35 parts of pure glycerin in the heat and stir this mixture with 30 Parts of the precipitated calcium carbonate result in an excellent toothpaste which can be perfumed with peppermint oil and menthol.
2. An aqueous solution of the sodium salt of the sulfonation product of glycerine monododecyl ether, which can be perfumed in a suitable way, is an excellent shampoo.
'3. 50 parts by weight of a mixture of the sodium salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monooctyl, decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl, hexadecyl and octadecyl ethers, in which the sulfonation product of glycerol monododecyl ether predominates, are 20 parts by weight of Glauber's salt and 30 parts by weight share borax mixed.
The aqueous solution of this mixture is an excellent detergent with excellent cleaning power; it provides a very stable foam. The cleaning agent is particularly suitable for cleaning wool and fabrics made from it.
4. 100 parts by weight of a porridge-like mixture of the sodium salts of the sulphonation products of glycerol monododecyl, tetradecyl, hexadecyl and octadecyl ethers in which the sulphonation product of glyceririmonododecyl ether predominates with about 10 parts by weight of water offset.
The mixture is sprayed under pressure in an atomization dryer and dried. The result is a voluminous, easily pourable, non-caking product which dissolves quickly and clearly in water. If desired, salts, such as borax and the like, can also be added to the mixture before drying. The aqueous solution has excellent cleaning properties.
The liquids produced with the means mentioned can be used in a warm or cold state.
It is known that the sulfuric acid esters of glycerine decompose very easily. It was therefore to a great extent surprising that the salts of the sulfonation products of glycerol monododecyl ether are also very resistant to heat and have the described above-mentioned effective soap substitute effect.
