Appareil respiratoire.
Respiratory. The present invention relates to respiratory devices. oxygen, and a. the main object is a light device, safe to operate, simple to manufacture, easy to maintain and use.
The breathing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a bag made of flexible material and impermeable to gases, -des tiné to surround =, u at least the head of the wearer but without close contact with his face and serving for the both respiratory chamber and economizer bag, a portable oxygen source connected to said bag and a device for purifying the atmosphere of said bag.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof; Fig. 2 shows schematically, in vertical section, partial and on a larger scale, how the air circulation takes place; Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the collar to which the hood is fixed; Fig. 4 is a side view of the attachment part of the oxygen producing and air purifier members on the collar.
The apparatus shown comprises a bag or hood 1 made of a strong, flexible and gas-impermeable material, such as, for example, oiled or rubberized canvas. This ghoul completely surrounds the head and its dimensions are sufficient to form a breathing chamber. The front face of the hood has a window 2 leaving most of the face visible from the outside.
This window may consist of one or more sheets of transparent, non-flammable and anti-fog material. In the case where these sheets of transparent material are flexible, it is preferable that they be mounted in a metal frame 3 giving them sufficient rigidity, but nevertheless deformable enough by itself to allow the hood to be adapted. to the wearer's face. This is how one can give a convex shape to the lower side of the frame 8 to prevent the window 2 from touching the nose of the wearer.
The lower edge of the hood 1 is fixed, ensuring the seal, on a collar intended to be applied on the neck of the wearer and on the upper part of the chest, preferably directly on the skin or in case of emergency over clothes and even clothes. This collar is formed, in the example shown, in FIGS. 1 -and 3, by a wide strip or a tube 4 forming a sealing pad, made of a compressible material such as spongy rubber crusted on the face in contact with the skin.
Close contact between this collar and the skin is ensured by the pressure of a bri cole 5 of an inextensible and resistant material, for example strong canvas, placed flat on the collar and fixed, for example, by gluing, to the collar 4. Of course, the bricole could be attached to the hood 1.
The bricole 5 also serves to support the oxygen producing and air purifying organs, and undergoes all the tensile forces, while the band 4 distributes the weight of the apparatus, so as to make it supportable. and ensures tightness without being subjected to tensile forces, which makes it possible to use exclusively materials which retain their qualities for a long time and even to ensure this tightness in the event of imperfect conservation of these materials.
On the bricole 5 can be fixed a belt or -de harness (not shown) serving to .. hold the collar in place and on which can be attached the oxygen-producing and air purifier components.
Fig. : 3 shows the two ends of the bricole 5 fixed, to ensure a good seal - of the base - of the collar, on a plate 6 which can be deformed, for example in aluminum sheet, which allows it to be adjusted to the specific conformation of each individual. On this plate is attached a tab 7 -of adjustable length, in leather or other suitable material, extensible or not. This tab 7 is attached, on the other hand, to a belt or to a usual piece of clothing.
On the plate 7 is attached by any suitable means by riveting, for example, a hooking device formed according to FIGS. 3 and 4, by a plate 8 forming a hook at the. upper part for the oxygen-producing and air-purifying organs, tan say that the lower part of this plate 8 forms an appendage bearing against the plate 6 under the effect of the weight of the attached organs and maintains it thus applied con be the body of the wearer.
According to fig. 1 and 2, the oxygen bottle 9 is rigidly fixed below a reagent box 10 to absorb the carbonic gas, by means of a connecting piece It which carries the oxygen injection device 12 (FIG. 2) and a valve controlled by a handwheel 13 to adjust the flow -d'oxygen. The connecting piece 11 can also carry a manometer 14 indicating at each instant, even when the valve is closed, the volume of oxygen, brought back to atmospheric pressure, remaining in the bottle.
The assembly formed by the bottle and the reagent box 10 is hung on the hook of the plate 8 and connected to the lower part of the hood 1 by a connector 15.
This box at. reagents shown in fig. 2, comprises, for example, -compartments 17 formed by horizontal partitions and -in which the reagents are placed in the form of pieces, pellets, tablets, etc., preferably in a single layer.
These horizontal com partiments communicate, through the holes in perforated sheets or metal sheets, on the one hand with a central duct 18 which opens out to. inside the hood 1 and, on the other hand, with one or more peripheral compartments. 19 communicating with a space 20 provided at the bottom of the reagent box. From this space 20 leaves a tube 21 having a part in the form of a Ven turi tube, at the base of which the injector 12 opens out. oxygen cylinder 9.
This tube is placed in the central duct $ 1. A flexible hose 22 disposed in the hood 1 can be attached to the end of the tube 21 and its free end can be taken with the mouth by gripping it by. hand through the soft fabric of the hood.
The apparatus may include pockets arranged inside the hood 1 and able to contain: various objects intended for food .du wearer for example. It has no valve, the whole of the hood and the collar opposing any entry of outside air, but allowing the escape of the excess air which it contains in the event of excessive overpressure.
The operation of this device is as follows: The device is put in place by inserting the head into the hood 1 through the collar 4-5. The collar 4-5 is supported on the skin of the neck and the upper part of the chest by the band 4, which ensures the tightness of the hood. The collar is then covered by the clothes and the tab 7 is attached to a part of the clothing, to the pants for example. The reagent box 10, with the oxygen bottle 9, is attached to the plate 8 and by the connector 15 it is connected to the hood 1.
The oxygen is sent into the hood by opening the valve of the bottle 9. The ca ghoul is maintained at a slight overpressure thanks to. the absence of a valve, or the appropriate setting of the. exhaust valve., if the appliance has one, which prevents any re-entry of air in the event of a leak. This excess pressure can be increased voluntarily by opening the adjustment net while sealing accidental leaks by means of rubberized plasters, a box of which is attached to the apparatus. These plasters can also be used to supplement the adhesion of the collar to the skin as needed. The oxygen passes through the pipe 22 which opens into the hood.
The air from the hood passes in the direction of the arrows (FIG. 2) through the duct 18 and horizontally crosses the horizontal compartments 17 where it gets rid of the carbon dioxide on contact with the reagents. This air then arrives in the peripheral compartments 19, and joins the tube 21 in which the oxygen is injected.
This circulation of gases takes place under the effect of several causes which can act. whether multaneously or not. These are, on the one hand, the current of exhalation air which, as a result of the arrangement of the duct 1.8, is naturally directed towards the opening of this duct, on the other hand, the change in density undergone by the air inside the box as a result of the absorption of carbon dioxide, in addition, the suction effect produced by the injector, finally; possibly, the direct oral aspiration or expiration that the wearer can produce through the flexible tube 22.
The oxygen flow can be adjusted moderately by the large hand wheel 1.3.
This apparatus has the advantage of being of a simple construction, of an easy use and maintenance. On the other hand, its weight and size are very small. The interior layout of the reagent box ensures better use of reagents! and consequently a better coefficient of use in volume and weight of said box. This advantage can moreover be pushed to the extreme by using, in combination with the mode of circulation of gases in parallel, as indicated above, an accessory circulation in series obtained by baffle perforations according to the -dispositions habitual.
On the other hand, thanks to the immediate connection of said box with the oxygen cylinder, the lowering of the temperature caused by the expansion of oxygen is used to partially compensate for the heat due to the action of the reagents. As the total pressure of the bottle can be made to act on the injector, this ensures better circulation through the reagent box and prevents accidental blockage of the injector, which can also be removed. at a pinch in the event of irremediable damage.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown and described which have been chosen only by way of example. In particular, the oxygen cylinder can be removed and replaced by any suitable oxygen generator. If the device is intended for young children, the bag will be of sufficient size to contain the body of a child. This bag is provided with a closing device making it possible to close it completely, for example - a sliding donkey horn. Circulation through the reagent box of the air contained in the bag is then ensured by the ejection device.
