Device for lifting and turning a motor vehicle. The object of the present invention is a device making it possible to lift and make a motor vehicle vote, comprising a jack fixed to the chassis of the car, the lower parts of the vertical uprights of said jack being joined by at least one spacer comprising at least one ball joint connected, on the other hand, to an element resting on the ground, outside the vertical passing through the center of gravity of the car, means being provided allowing in combination with said vé rin,
to keep said car in balance when it is raised, said means being provided with members facilitating the pivoting of the aforementioned car.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the positive device attached to an automobile frame; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device shown in, FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a view showing the details of the gears operating the cylinder; Figs. 4 and 4a show the spacer; Fig. 5 is a detail view of a keel yoke; Fig. 6 is a view of the assembly allowing the actuator to be actuated by means of the motor.
In fig. 1 and 2 is shown a frame 10 of an ordinary motor car, mounted on wheels 11, and comprising a motor b100 12, terminating at the rear with a gearbox 13 which is connected to the differential mechanism ordinary 14 by a transmission shaft 15, which, for more .de aside, is supposed to be broken.
Under the chassis 10, and slightly in front of the center of gravity of the car, is fixed, by means of the cross members 16, a sort of casing or casing 17 (fig. 3) in which is held a double nut. 18 (fig. 3) capable of coming into engagement either with a nut 19 fixed on a bevel gear 30, or with a nut 20 fixed on a pinion 29 in engagement with a horizontal bevel gear 21 "also held in the housing 17 .
The pinions 21 and 21 "are each joined by parts such as 46 and tubes such as 47 with nuts such as 48 which each control a vertical telescopic screw such as 22A; said screws are joined at their base by a common plate or spacer 23 forming the female element, of a ball joint of which the male element or sphere 24 is integral (of a pad 25 capable of resting on the ground outside the center of gravity of the car , the latter being located inside a triangle determined by said jack and two wheels of the car.
As shown in fig. 3, the double nut 18 slides on a shaft 26 which has a wheel 44 actuated by the tangent screw 45; the latter is coupled by a preferably deformable articulation 27 (FIG. 6) with the end of a shaft 28 of an assembly called a rocker; the latter with its toothed wheel 55, controlled by the toothed flywheel 54, is actuated using a Bowden rod or cable 59 (fig. 6).
, On the shaft 26 can therefore slide the double nut but without ever ceasing to participate in its rotation (in its neutral position or by dragging either the bevel pinion 29 or 30. This double nut has a circular groove 31 in which is engaged a fork 32 suitably articulated at the end of a 33à reach -from the driver of the car.
It can be seen that by the operation of the lever 33 the driver can engage the two pins 29 and 30 so as to be able to put either one or the other in engagement with the double nut 18, or even, for the intermediate position , put the -two pinions 29 and 30 out of the socket with this double nut.
In addition, the pinions 21 are engaged, as shown in fig. 5, with two additional bevel gears. 34 and 35 connected by a shaft 36 provided with elastic or universal joints 37, to the pinion 38, which is engaged with two telescopic tubes 40 and 41 suitably guided in the housing 39 and terminated at their lower part by a roller 42 carried by a yoke 43 pivoting in all directions.
The lever 33 is integral with another lever 49 which is joined at the other end with the first element of the telescopic tubes 50, the last element of which is fixed to the spacer 23.
By means of said tubes, automatic disengagement of the device at the end of travel is obtained in each direction. -If the telescopic tubes 50 extend downwards, they will bring the nut to the end of its travel, double 18 to the neutral point and thus stop all movement, in the same way they act upwards by bringing the nut back 18 towards the neutral position in the opposite direction.
The operation of the device thus described is as follows: To lift the car, the driver starts the engine, having wedged to leave the gearshift lever in neutral. Then, he pulls the lever 60 of the cable 50 (fig. 1) which controls the rocker (fig. 6) engaging the small gear of this rocker with the toothed flywheel, so that the shaft 28 begins to turn and thanks to at the coupling 27, it drives by the screw 45 and tangent wheel 44 (fig. 3), the double nut 18 in its neutral position.
The assembly known as the tilt switch (fig. 6) comprises a small gear 55 operated by the cable 59 which passes through an opening made in the casing of the flywheel 54. This gear 5.5 is held in a tilting and guided casing 5: 6. either by the springs 57, or by the rollers 58.
The driver then acts on the lever 33 which makes it possible @to engage the nut 18 with one of the pinions @ 30 or 29. As a result, the two pinions, 21 and 21 ", start to rotate and lower. the two telescopic screws 22 and with them qe pad 25 which soon hits the ground., If the appliance is combined with crutches,
then at the same time, by means of the pinions 35 ', the shafts M and the pinions 38, the two props 41 descend, but their length is calculated in such a way that they do not reach the ground only after the pad 25.
In this case, the center of gravity of the car is located inside the triangle determined by the crutches and the aforementioned shoe.
As operation continues, the screws 22 being immobilized, it is the front of the chassis of the car which is lifted by resting on the shoe 25. So the two front wheels are at the same time. 'air and the two rear on the ground. I.1 it suffices to push the car either to the left or to the right so that the -two wheels -on the side to, right or left are in the air.
If the crutches are used, they take support on the ground a few moments after the shoe 2.5, then the rear of the frame also rises while remaining slightly lower than the front. When the wheels 11 have sufficiently left the ground, the telescopic tubes 50 actuate the lever 33 so as to disengage from the nut 18 that of the two pinions 29 and '0 which was engaged.
To rotate the car around the pad 26 and consequently the sphere 24, it suffices to lift it slightly, which is done without great effort, the car being balanced. To facilitate this rotation, especially in the case of cars and trucks, one must see outside the rollers 42 at the end of the crutches still other rollers 51, on the extension of the spacer 23, as in FIG. 4a. For ordinary cars, stability bolts 52 are sufficient when using the crutches.
Clutch devices can be provided on the shaft 36 for controlling the pins 41, so as to allow the inclination of the chassis to be varied at will.
If the shoe 25 is mounted on its own without a keel and the car is on an inclined road, it is obvious that the lifted car will rest on its. two wheels on the side that is tilted, the two wheels on the opposite side remaining in the air. It is therefore preferable to operate on the side opposite to that where the wheels to be replaced are located; however, a means was provided to be able to put in the air and at will the wheels on any side.
For this purpose, it suffices -de provide the plate 25 with a segment 53 which, normally, is in front or behind, but in order to keep either one or the other side of the lifted car, will be placed either at; left, or to the right between the spacer 23 and plate 25 by pulling, for example by a cable, this plate .de 45 under one of the screws 22. The same result is also obtained by putting any tool or object to this place between the spacer 23 and the chainring 25, and the whole car being balanced, switches to the opposite side.
The apparatus shown can also be operated by hand, as shown in the figure, by means of the flywheel 63, actuating the toothed wheels 61 and 62.
Finally, the cylinder housing can be cut into two parts along the line X-Y of the drawing, when it must be fixed in two elements, on a frame having: crossed reinforcements. In this case, said reinforcements can serve as attachment and support points for the device, replacing the crossbars 16 (fig. 3).
