fuel pump for engines, with adjustable flow. The present invention relates to a fuel pump for engines, with adjustable flow rate, of the kind comprising a moving piston, of a native alter movement at constant stroke, inside a tubular part which is capable of establishing communication with a tank at wedge-bustible so to allow the entry of fuel into the space above the piston, and that a spring, resting on the piston, always tends to </ B> maintain ci) discharge position,
this tubular part can be formed either by the cy- liner itself in which the piston moves ,. or by a special cylindrical part which surrounds this cylinder.
The pump according to the invention is characterized in that, during the suction stroke, the tubular part is maintained, in its suction position, by said piston itself, which also governs the movement of said tubular part. to its discharge position, this piston comprising, to this effect, a retaining spout acting on the tubular part in the opposite direction to the direction in which the spring acts which is trapped in a so-te cage formed by the piston and its nozzle, and the tubular part.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, some embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal section of a double pump; Fig. 2 shows a multiple pump; Fig. 3 represents an alternative construction.
Fig. 4 shows another construction variant, FIG. 5 shows, in longitudinal section, another multiple pump.
Fig. 6 is a plan view in detail of a member of the pump of FIG. 5. The double pump shown in fig. 1 comprises a body 1 in the upper part of which is provided a tank 2 in which the fuel arrives through a pipe 3. < / B> This reservoir 2 comprises, for each of the pumps, a delivery orifice 4 against which the upper end of the mobile cylinder 5 of the pump can be applied, in which a piston 7 screwed into a sleeve 8 controlled by a shaft with cam 9 by means for example of a pebble 10.
A collar 18 is provided on the piston 7 on which is attached, by screwing for example, a sleeve 19 integral with a pinion 20. A spring 12 is interposed between this collar 18 and a collar 14 provided at the lower end of the cylinder 5. At its upper end, the sleeve 19 ends with a spout 22 capable of acting on the lower flange 14 in the opposite direction to the direction of action of the spring 12.
Operation takes place as follows: At top dead center (right pump in fig. 1) the cylinder 5 is pressed against port 4, and the spring 12 is compressed between the collar 18 and the collar 14 of the cylinder 5. There is some play between the beb 22 of the sleeve 19 and the collar 14 said cylinder 5. At the start of the downstroke, the piston 7 and its sleeve 19 descend on their own until the nozzle 22 engages with the collar 14, that is to say after taking up the play a. A this moment, the piston 7 continuing to descend, this nozzle 22 drives the cylinder 5 which also descends.
At the start of the upstroke, the organs move simultaneously until the cylinder 5 comes to rest against the orifice 4. A this moment, the piston 7 and its sleeve 19 continue to rise by an amount equal to clearance a, the cylinder remaining stationary. During this stroke a, the piston 7 then causes a discharge of the fuel, through the orifice 4. It is evident that the flow of this discharge depends on the size of the clearance a. This quantity can be varied by screwing the piston 7 more or less into the sleeve 8. </ B > This can for example. be obtained by operating a rack 23 which simultaneously drives the two pinions 20 of the two pumps, the simultaneous adjustment of which is thus ensured.
The two pistons may be controlled alternately, in any known manner, by a single cam shaft 9 * Between these two pumps, a rocker arm 24 is placed which, controlled < B> at each upstroke of one of the pumps, controls the downstroke of the other pump.
Fig. 2 shows a 6 unit multiple pump variant.
These pumps are arranged in a circle, which makes it possible to control them by means of a single cam 25 provided on a horizontal cam plate 26 . Rockers. 24 are interposed between these pumps. The multane adjustment of the flow of all these small pumps can be ensured by a central pinion 27 in mesh with all the pinions 20. This pinion 27 can be controlled itself from the outside by any automatic means or not, which makes it possible to vary the engine speed very easily.
In the variant of FIG. 3, instead of having a two-piece piston 7, 8, as in the previous devices, this piston is in one piece, the adjustment of the flow is then obtained by screwing or unscrewing more or less the sleeve 19 with respect to the piston 7.
The invention is not only applicable to pumps of the kind in which the cylinder is movable, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, but also in the case where the cylinder is fixed and is surrounded by a distribution sleeve 16, </ B> as shown in fig. 4.
In this case, this sleeve 16 plays exactly under the same conditions as the cylinder 5 of figs. 1 to 3, that is to say that, depending on the setting of the piston 7 with respect to the sleeve 19., more or less early, during the upstroke, it causes the orifices 67 made in the wall of the cylinder to be blocked.
Finally, in the variant shown in fig.'5 and 6, the flow rate is adjusted by means of an arm 30 wedged on the motor shaft 9 and at the end of which are housed two balls 31 which move between a lower raceway-32 and an upper cam plate 33. This plate 83 comprises, bridge- each of the pumps, a shoulder 34 which, during the rotation of the arm 80, forces the two balls < B> 31 and 32 to descend, these two balls then releasing, via a free collar 35,
on cylinder 5 that they force to descend.
It is obvious that by adjusting the angular position of the shoulder 34, the moment when, during the delivery stroke of the piston 7 of the corresponding pump, the cylinder will be varied. r) will be lowered and clear of the discharge port, which determines the stopping of this discharge. For the adjustment of the angular position of the shoulders 34, the.plateati 33 which carries them is wedged at the end of a shaft 37 which you can control from the outside the angular displacement by hand or automatically.
With this arrangement, we can vary, .wit the finished is the beginning, of delivery of, each pump.
As in the case of fig. 2, the upward movement of the various pistons is controlled by a cam plate 26, but in this case, the downward movement is controlled by a second cam plate 40.
