Method for concentrating aqueous fibroin solutions. In the production of spinnable aqueous solutions from silk fibroin, it turns out more often than necessary to concentrate dilute solutions. The inconvenience easily arises that the fibroin is partially or even completely excreted with a skin formation, similar to the skin formation on hot milk.
If one disperses, for example, to Switzerland. Patent specification No. 154774 Fibroin in sodium rhodanide and dialyzed the resulting solution to a salt content of less than 4%, the described skin formation occurs relatively easily when the dialyzed solution is concentrated, especially if the pretreatment of the silk waste is during deboning, etc. was carried out gently.
It has now been found that this excretion can be avoided if substances are added to the diluted fibroin solutions before they are concentrated, which substances reduce the surface tension of the solutions. Such substances can be used, for example, bile, bile acids, gallamide, lecithin, alkali salts of oxy-, chloro- or aminobenzoic acids or wetting agents such as those commercially available under the name Nekale, Avirole.
The addition of the substances can also ensure that the silk waste does not require any special pre-treatment other than gentle deburring for the purpose of dissolving, so that degradation of the starting material is avoided. The addition of such substances has the further advantage that the gelatinous and swarm formations in the solution can be eliminated, the filterability of the solution can be improved and the friction and shear resistance can be increased.
Example. An aqueous solution with a content of 4 o fibroin and 0.2% sodium rhodium is mixed with 0.01% desogycholic acid and placed in a rotating drum with heating to 30 to 40 and over line of Air is thickened to a content of 14 to 15% fibroin. Instead of the specified amount of desogycholic acid, 0.05% bovine bile or 0.02% cholic acid can also be used with the same effect.
Concentration takes place without any skin formation, which is not the case without the addition of substances that reduce the surface tension. -
