Genannt sei Carbazoltetrasulfamid. Die Verbindungen können auch mehrkernig sein, wobei sowohl kondensierte Ringe (zum Beispiel Naphtalin), als auch direkt oder durch beliebige Gruppen verknüpfte Ring systeme, die im Ganzen neben mindestens einer,Sulfamidogruppe noch mindestens eine weitere NH2-Gruppe in beliebiger Bindung enthalten, zur Kondensation gebracht werden;
experienced in the production of läondensation products from non-aliphatic sulfamides and aldehydes. It is known to condense aryl sulfamides and their N-monoalkylsubstitutionspro @ products with formaldehyde.
This gives soluble, fusible synthetic resins which, contrary to the properties of plienol formaldehyde condensation products and urea formaldehyde condensation products, cannot be hardened, i.e. they cannot be converted into the insoluble and fusible state by the action of heat.
According to the invention, molded products made of synthetic resins are herge provides that non-aliphatic sulfamides, which contain at least one NE group in addition to the sulfamido group, condensed with aldehydes and polymerized and at the latest after shaping into the infusible. To stand to be transferred.
Further research has shown that it is not the presence of the carbamide group in the non-aliphatic sulfamides that is the prerequisite for the formation of curable products during condensation with aldehydes, in particular formaldehyde.
Rather, numerous experiments have shown that it essentially depends on starting from compounds which, in addition to the sulfamido group, also contain a second or more NHZ groups in any bond in the molecule.
For the technical manufacture of the new products, by-products from saccharine manufacture, such as parmulfamidobenzoic acid, the carboxyl group of which is amidated, can be used as cheap starting material. The compounds obtained, which contain the carbamido group in addition to the sulfamido group, are reacted with aldehydes, in particular formaldehyde.
According to one embodiment of the inven tion, di-, tri- or polysulfamides are used as the starting material, so that the second, respectively. the other NN = groups are in the form of sulfamido groups. In addition to the sulfamido groups, other NH2 groups, especially the carbamido group, can also be present.
In the heat, the reaction leads to insoluble and infusible products. The intermediate products obtained are resins which are soluble in organic solvents and produce water-white paints. By hardening the intermediate products in the heat and, if necessary, under pressure, one gets from the intermediate products to the glassy hard end products. Even in the case of condensation in the cold, intermediate products are obtained in the presence of catalysts, for example strong bases and acids, which pass into the final state during curing.
The increase in the NHZ groups, which apparently enables the reaction to proceed within the meaning of the invention, can also be brought about by introducing one or more sulfamido groups, for example in aniline, phenylenediamine and similar compounds, and condensing them with formaldehyde.
The products obtained by the present process are, after curing, infusible and insoluble resins which can be used as synthetic materials for a wide variety of purposes, for example also as wood turner materials.
The condensation products can also be processed into molding compounds with or without the addition of fillers, such as in particular fibrous materials.
The products of the present process differ not only in their properties but also in their chemical composition from the non-curable resins obtained by formaldehyde condensation of monosulfamides which do not contain any further NH2 groups. Since the starting materials contain more than one NHZ group, each of these groups can react with formaldehyde, so that the linkage can lead to molecules with a different structure and larger than those that are found, for example, in the condensation of p obtained toluenesulfamide with formaldehyde.
With the new process, you have the ability to produce very differently composed resins, since the possibility of variation depending on the choice of starting material (benzene and homologues, aniline, carbazole, @tc.); the number and the position (in the nucleus in the o-, m-, p-position, or in the side chain) as well as the type of bond of the amido groups. the substituents in the nucleus or on the nitrogen - the nitrogen can also be in the form of an imido group, for example - is extremely large.
It is further increased by the fact that mixtures of different or isomeric sulfamides and the like result not only in mixtures but in new compounds during the condensation and therefore also provide new end products from a chemical point of view. In addition to aromatic bodies, hydroaromatic or heterocyclic compounds that correspond to the above-mentioned conditions can also be used as starting materials.
Carbazole tetrasulfamide should be mentioned. The compounds can also be polynuclear, with both condensed rings (for example naphthalene) and ring systems linked directly or through any groups, which on the whole contain at least one further NH2 group in any bond in addition to at least one sulfamido group, for condensation to be brought;
, can (for example multiply sulfamidated sulfones, multiply sulfamidated benzophenone and the like). The condensation can be carried out in the presence or absence of solvents (in the latter case, for example, by melting). Both aqueous liquids and organic liquids can be used as solvents.
Formaldehyde can be used either in solution or as a gas, as polymeric formaldehyde or in the form of substances which split off formaldehyde, for example hegamethylene tetra- min. Furthermore, instead of formaldehyde, other aldehydes, for example furfural, can be used under certain circumstances.
It is preferable to use equivalent or nearly equivalent amounts of aldehyde, calculated for each NHZ group present, so that each NHZ group present is reacted with at least one mole of aldehyde.
In the case of bodies containing more than two NHZ-G groups, each group does not have to react with one mole of aldehyde; rather, it is generally sufficient that in each mole of the amido compounds reacted at least two aldehyde residues enter.
The condensation can be carried out in the presence of catalysts. Both acids and bases act as contact agents. It is also possible to first produce initial condensation products, for example methylol compounds or methylene derivatives of amides, in crystalline or amorphous form and then convert them into the resins by heating them in solution or in the absence of solvents by melting them.
It is also possible to proceed in such a way that the reaction is conducted in a first stage with the aid of basic substances (KOH, hegamethylenetetramine, alkaline salts, etc.) in a neutral or alkaline manner, with the formation of methylol compounds initially apparently , while in a second stage (with the use of acids, acidic salts, esters or simply by further heating or with the help of oxidizing agents) the condensation is conducted under acidic conditions. The acid can then be blunted again.
During or after the condensation, formaldehyde-binding substances, such as phenols, urea, thiourea, amines, can be added to the reaction mixture. Such compounds, which form resins with formaldehyde, can also be subjected to the joint condensation with formaldehyde as a component of the mixture: Under certain circumstances, monoamides (for example p-toluenesulphamide) can also be incorporated into the mass in the process. These also form with formaldehyde.
although not curable, resins. If a larger amount of monoamides is added, end products are obtained which, although they have a high melting point, are no longer hardenable. These products are soluble in organic solvents.
The properties of the products obtained can also be changed by the incorporation of other artificial or natural resins, cellulose esters, ethers or other plastic materials. <I> Embodiments: </I> 1. p-sulfamidobenzamide is condensed with the equivalent amount of formaldehyde (that is, two moles of formaldehyde for one mole of amide) at boiling point under reflux cooling.
If the boil is not cooked for too long, the resulting solution will remain homogeneous and, once it has thickened, will be freed of water as far as possible. The resin, which still contains water, is white in the cold and clear in the heat. By further heating it can be hardened and delivers. Depending on the degree of hardening, a clear, pliable and still soluble or hard, infusible and insoluble product.
The intermediate product obtained before hardening is soluble in many common organic solvents, such as alcohol, benzene, acetone and the like, and especially in solvent mixtures.
Instead of the p-sulfamidobenzamide, m-sulfamidobenzamide or toluene sulfamidocarbamide can be processed in the manner described above.
2. 350 grams of m-benzene-disulfamide are entered in 240 cm 'of 40% formaldehyde solution (one CHZO group for each SO, NH2 group). The mixture is heated to the boil. When the solution has entered, heating is continued for about 15 minutes, after which the resulting condensation product is deposited as a tough, glossy white, opaque resin on cooling. The product is washed and, when dissolved in alcohol, gives a light-colored varnish.
For processing to a vitreous end product, it is hardened at 80 to <B> 100 </B> for a longer period of time. The product obtained in this way is colorless, transparent, infusible and insoluble. Before curing, the resin can be freed from the water it still contains, in part by heating it in a vacuum.
If the condensation is continued longer than indicated above, a tough intermediate product is obtained which is no longer soluble in alcohol, but is soluble in acetone.
3. 2'50 g of m-benzene-disulfamide are mixed with 180 cm 'of 40% formaldehyde solution while adding such an amount of hydrochloric acid that the hydrogen ion concentration in the solution is about 5.10-3. It is boiled for 3 / .4 hours, whereupon the solution separates into an aqueous and an oily layer while still warm. After cooling, the latter provides a product similar to that obtained in Example 2.
4. The addition of basic condensation agents instead of acids often proves to be even more effective. When about 1% is added, boiling the benzene disulphamide / formaldehyde mixture gives a relatively hard resin that is more difficult to dissolve in solvents, but provides more resistant end products (paint films or pellets).
Potassium hydrogen can also be added to the finished varnish or press mix, in which case this acts as a hardening accelerator. The use of pyridine as a condensing agent has proven particularly useful. With the addition of 21/2% pyridine, similar to the phenol-formaldehyde condensation, stratification occurs in the heat.
Particularly good lacquers or molding compounds can be produced from the resin layer. . 5. 400 grams of benzene disulfamide are mixed with 480 grams of phenol and added to 1,360 grams of formaldehyde (40 percent by volume) to which 60 cm 'of 2N NaOH have been added.
It is heated until it dissolves, then allowed to cool a little and 3.30 cm 'n; "2 H #, PO, added, whereupon layers are formed immediately. The heating is then continued for some time and finally the lower layer is applied to an artificial mass processed.
6. 0.2 g of KOH are dissolved in 100 cm of alcohol. 26 grams of paraformaldehyde and 100 grams of m-benzene disulfamide are added to this solution. The solution is heated and acidified. When the condensation has ended, about 20% acetone is added to the resin solution obtained.
7. 5 grams of gyloldisulfamid, which was prepared from technical xylene and is a mixture of isomers, are condensed with an equivalent amount of formaldehyde. The cured end product is a clear, hard resin that is more brittle than that made from benzene disulfamide.
B. In 1/2 N alcoholic KOH solution, equivalent amounts of formaldehyde and benzenedisulfamide are entered. After about 10 minutes, a resin deposit is obtained even in the cold. The resin obtained in this way is still soluble in water at this stage and can be hardened by the action of heat.
9. If you go instead of m-Benzoli disulfamide of Mono- or. From dichlorobenzene disulfamide, solid hardenable condensation products are obtained which, however, are cloudy.
10, m-toluene disulfamide gives a resin similar to xylene disulfamide.
11. Equivalent amounts of formaldehyde are brought into effect on aniline trisulfamide. The resin obtained is curable.
12. Aniline trisulfamide and formaldehyde can also form condensation products which crystallize in the cold, for example a dimethylene aniline trisulfamide (F. P. 305). Likewise from aniline-p-monosulfamide a product by F. P. 244 ', from p-toluidine disulfamide a product by F. P. 245 <B>' </B> and others.
These products appear to be partly methylene and partly methylol compounds. Similarly, acetanilide-p- and o-sulfamide and / or. Acet-p-toluidide monosulfamide with one or two moles of formaldehyde in the cold by Lö sen in dilute alkali and cases with acid crystalline bodies of melting points 215, respectively. 241 resp. 22.6 when working in the heat, however
curable resinous condensation products. The crystalline fusible condensation products can generally be converted into curable resins by further heating with formaldehyde. Also as. In addition to such (as formaldehyde-setting substances or to facilitate compression) they can be of value.
13. m-Benzene-disulfamide is, as indicated in Example 2, condensed with CH 2 O. Shortly before the end of the condensation, another 20% benzene disulfamide are added and condensation continues. A very hard product is obtained after curing.
14. 7 grams of benzene disulfamide are dissolved in 4.42 cm 'of 40% formaldehyde solution with the addition of 22 cm3 of 2N KOH in the cold. So much 2N HCl is added until the onset of precipitation has ended. This is an initially resinous, then cheesy product that is washed with water and dried in vacuo.
The white, amorphous powder obtained can be hot-pressed either by itself or mixed with fillers (e.g. cellulose). 15. A resinous condensation product is also obtained from phenol disulfamide and formaldehyde.
16. A 70% acetone varnish (produced by dissolving the intermediate condensation product of benzene disulfamide and CH = 0) is soaked through cellulose, cured at 100, pulverized finely and the powder is pressed while hot. A hard, transparent product with a horn-like appearance is obtained, or a white-covered pellet with a porcelain-like texture.
To produce press powders, the procedure can also be such that the fillers (paper, dyes and the like) are already in the reaction mixture at the beginning of the condensation and the resin on the fillers (for example on and in the paper fibers) Failure is brought to separation.
17. m-Benzene-disulfamide is mixed with approx. 20% p-toluene-monosulfamide and such an amount of formaldehyde is added to the mixture that there is 1 mol of CH2O for each NH2 group present. After the condensation, a heat-fusible condensation product with a high melting point is obtained, which is still soluble in organic solvents, but can be hardened by further heating.
18. m-Benzene-disulfamide is heated with formaldehyde solution. After a while, 10 to 20% thiourea is added to the solution. The resin which separates out after a brief period of further heating shows an increase in the hydrophobic properties compared with the resin formed under the same conditions without the addition of thiourea.
Two different products are obtained, depending on the amount of formaldehyde used for the condensation, which are equivalent to the benzene disulfamide, or whether the formaldehyde is used in an equivalent ratio to all the NH2 groups present. thus also those of thiourea to use. In the latter case, a homogeneous co-condensation product is obtained.
19. When benzenedisulfamide is heated with equivalent amounts of furfural, the former dissolves after a while, and a dark, lacquer-like, semi-solid mass forms when it cools. 20. If equivalent amounts of benzaldehyde and benzene disulfamide are heated, solution will also occur after some time. When cooling, the whole thing solidifies to a hard mass.
All the usual rules apply to work-up, such as neutralization of the acid before gelatinization occurs, while various filling materials can be used in the manufacture of hard synthetic materials.
The resins can be used to produce hard synthetic materials.
The amount of formaldehyde can sometimes with advantage exceed that given in Example 1; furthermore, the formaldehyde can also be used as a polymeric or gaseous medium, and also in organic medium instead of in aqueous medium.
These resins produced by the method according to the invention can, if appropriate, be processed in powder form with or without the addition of filler material in the usual manner under heat and pressure on pressed products.
