<I>Beispiel:</I> <B>176</B> Gewielitsteile 4. 6-Dichlor-3-amino- 1-toluol werden in zirka<B>700</B> GewieUtsteilen Tetrachlorkohlenstoff gelöst.
Process for the preparation of <B> 1. </B> 6-] Diehlor-3-amiiio-1-toluene-2-sulfonic acid. It has been found that ertho-A-ni- lin # s-tilfo acids have the following constitution:
EMI0001.0006
in which X can be alkyl, 0-alkyl, 0-aryl, 0-ATalkyl, CO-aryl, SO, -aryl, Nu #, COOII or halogen is obtained if one uses primary aromatic amines according to the above formula, however are unsubstituted in the 2-position,
Treated with molecular amounts of Hakgensulfonic acid in the presence of a diluent and with exclusion of moisture.
Examples of possible diluents include: higher boiling aliphatic hydrocarbons, their halogen substitution products, halogenated benzenes, halogenated toluenes, nitrobenzene, etc. The way in which the diluents are used is explained in the examples. It is essential to achieve a good yield that
that any trace of moisture due to sulphonation is avoided and that the halogen sulphonic acid is used in a freshly distilled state.
The process represents an essential enrichment of the technology, since the sulfonic acids not yet described are very valuable intermediate products for the synthesis of dyes of all kinds.
The result of the sulphonation must be reported as surprising, not only in view of the fact that the sulio group occurs uniformly in the artho position to the amino group, but that sulphonation takes place at all and especially with such good yields, since, for example, according to " Reports of the German Chemical Society ", Volume <B> 50, </B> Page <B> 1110, </B> or Houben-Weyl, III. Volume, 2.
Edition "page <B> 995 </B>, a sulphonation as a result of steriselier hindrance was not expected.
The subject of this patent is a process for the preparation of 4. 6-dichloro-3-amino-1-tc> iuene-2-sulioic acid, which is characterized by the fact that 4. 6-dichloro-3-amino-1-toluene is used Treated with molecular amounts of Ha, -logensulfon, -bäur-e in the presence of a diluent and with exclusion of any moisture. The new sulfonic acid obtained in this way is to be used to represent dyes.
<I> Example: </I> <B> 176 </B> parts by weight 4. 6-dichloro-3-amino-1-toluene are dissolved in about <B> 700 </B> parts by weight of carbon tetrachloride. After adding dehydrated copper sulphate, this solution is expediently left to stand for about twelve hours in order to remove any remaining water that may be present.
<B> 116.5 </B> parts by weight of chlorosulphonic acid are added dropwise to the filtered solution within about half an hour while stirring rapidly, using an apparatus which is provided with a cooler and is well protected against the ingress of moisture served. The mixture is stirred for some time and the tetrachloride is then distilled off, about 2000 parts by weight of ortho-dichlorobenzene flowing in at the same time and the temperature slowly increasing to <B> 160 </B> to <B> 170 '</B> C internal temperature increases.
During this operation, it is advisable to press or suck a stream of dry air through the apparatus for the purpose of faster removal of the hydrochloric acid that is split off. As soon as the air stream leaving the apparatus is free of hydrochloric acid, the reaction is complete.
The sulfonic acid can be isolated in such a way that the reaction mixture is first suctioned off, the residue is taken up in water, made weakly alkaline and then subjected to steam distillation, or the entire reaction mixture is subjected to the alkali mixture of steam distillation , or the diluent is distilled off in vacuo and the sulfonic acid is then converted into the sodium salt.
The free 4, 6-dichloro-3-amina-1-foluene-2-sulphate acid is then separated out with mineral acids from the filtered solutions of the alkali salts. After vacuuming and drying, it represents a colorless powder, which is difficult to dissolve in water, easily soluble in soda, which is the sodium salt, and results in a diazo that is sparingly soluble in water - connection.
