Ausführungsbeispiele diesellbe Menge As best verwendet werden.
Process for the production of a condensation product from thiourea, urea and formaldehyde. The invention relates to the manufacture of a hydrophobic mixed condensation product of thiourea and urea with formaldehyde, which is particularly suitable as a binder for fibrous press powder.
The essence of the process according to the invention is that the joint condensation of thiourea and urea with less than 4 moles of formaldehyde, calculated on the sum of 2 moles of thiourea and urea, corresponds to a hydrogen ion concentration higher than a pH of 5 , is carried out.
These mixed condensation products, which separate themselves from the majority of the water automatically and also give off the rest extremely easily, have the property, which is very valuable for their technical use, that the brines initially formed are resistant to heat regardless of their hydrophobic nature.
The resistance of this brine enables the press mixtures to be obtained in a very simple manner by directly introducing the fibers into the hot aqueous reaction mixture as it was formed and the condensation products by simply further heating the mixture in a high and even polymerization. stand brings.
The novel mixed resins can also be processed into excellent press powders by other known methods that have long been in use for the production of resin-fiber press mixtures from natural and synthetic resins (especially phenol - formaldehyde conidensation products).
These mixed condensation products are obtained either by introducing the urea and thiourea components into the reaction at the same time or in immediate succession. The condensation is preferably carried out using the starting materials in a ratio of 3 moles of formaldehyde to the sum of 2 moles of thiourea and urea.
By condensing urea alone with. With such hydrogen ion concentrations and with such a molar ratio of the reaction components, formaldehyde is formed after brief heating and reaction mixtures which, with the inclusion of all the water, gelatinize to form a white mass that cannot be further processed.
The hydrophobic mixed condensation products cannot be obtained by successive condensation or by mixing urea and thiouro-formaldehyde condensation products produced in special operations.
Surprisingly, however, urea and formaldehyde occur when thiourea participates in the reaction in such an acidic medium and even with a ratio of 11/2 moles of formaldehyde to 1 mole of urea to form mixed condensation products with completely different properties,
in that tile, resin-like condensation products remain dissolved in the hot acidic reaction mixture and can be brought to a high and uniform polymerization state by further heating and yet, due to their hydrophobic nature, separate quickly and completely from the water.
The best results are obtained if the formaldehyde content for the thiourea component is introduced into the reaction in a ratio of 11/2 moles of formaldehyde to 1 mole of thiourea and is composed of equimolecular amounts of thiourea and urea as a mixed resin.
A previously unknown white or heavily cloudy resin of this type that can be processed into thickly covered pellets. results in the following procedure: A solution of urea and formaldehyde in the ratio of 11/2 moles of formaldehyde, to 1 mole of urea is set to a pi <5, heated, and with a solution of thiourea and formaldehyde in the ratio of 11/1 moles of formaldehyde to 1 mole of thiourea.
The reaction mixture is then heated until an opaque or white resin is formed which precipitates on cooling the solution but remains dissolved in the heat.
On the other hand, in order to obtain a binding agent that provides shimmering pellets, the procedure is such that thiourea and formaldehyde are dissolved in the heat in a ratio of 3 moles of formaldehyde to 1 mole of thiourea, which is followed by adjustment the - # Hydrogen concentration to a p # <5, preferably of 3, add 1 mol of urea to the boiling reaction mixture.
The mixture, which remains water-clear, is boiled on the reflux condenser until a water-clear resin which precipitates out when the solution cools but remains dissolved in the heat has formed.
To produce the press mixture, the white or clear acidic resin solution can be intimately mixed with fibers, for example in an effective kneading device. After the mixture has become air-dry, it is preferably heated to grindability at a temperature between 90-100, with or without the use of mechanical aids (rotating drum, heated rollers or the like), optionally in vacuo, and the ground mixture is finally , preferably at <B> 100 ', </B> until the desired polymerization state is reached.
It must be ensured that a water residue, which ensures the flowability of the press mixture in the hot press, remains in the powder. It has been shown that the most favorable state is achieved when the water content has fallen so far that a sample of the powder, if it is further heated to a temperature of almost 100, only suffers a weight loss of about 5 f.
The greatest simplification of the work can be achieved by allowing the formation of the mixed condensation products that arise in acidic solution in the fibers themselves, so that the press mix is produced in a single operation.
For this purpose, the fibers are impregnated with a suitably acidified solution of one mole each of urea and thiourea in 3 moles of formaldehyde and then heated in a closed vessel with vigorous agitation until the mixed resin is formed.
Celluloses of all kinds, also rayon, asbestos or the like can be used as fiber materials. The addition of asbestos significantly increases the heat resistance and fire safety.
The powder can be added at any point in the manufacturing process with any filling staffes. colored or covered with mineral, white or organic dyes or pigments.
Likewise, small amounts of fatty substances can be added to the mixtures.
The press powders produced according to the described embodiments require almost exactly the same pressing time as the well-known phenol-formaldehyde rapid presses. At a specific pressure of 150-300 kg / cm 'and a press duration of about one minute, it is possible to obtain pressed pieces with a wall thickness of 3 mm on the hot press, which completely meet the requirements for insulating material of the Association of German Electrical Technicians.
The compacts are expediently subjected to about 12 to 20 hours of post-drying, possibly with slightly agitated air or in a mild vacuum, at a temperature of 80 to 1.00 C. The press temperature is about 140 C on the surface of the Die.
Since not only the pressing time but also the pressing temperature is similar to the working conditions in the pressing of phenol-formaldehyde quick press mixtures, one can:
the HateriaT described above. with the phenol - formaldehyde <B> e </B> compression mixtures .together varpxes- S Un sen. This joint pressing will be carried out especially when it comes to achieving colorful, mixed effects.
The compacts produced in this way can be used for all purposes of pressing technology. They do not only surpass the phenol-formal ehydric condensation products in terms of appearance and light resistance, but also have a significantly higher resistance to alcaline than these. This superiority is of great importance with the ever greater spread of the use of pressed insulating material in electrical engineering for the purpose of achieving the greatest possible protection against contact.
The insulation capacity of a pressed part made in this way is like this. It's good that it still has an insulation resistance of 175,000 megohms after lying in water for 24 hours. EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS 1. 60 parts by weight of urea (1 mol) are dissolved in 125 parts by weight of an aqueous formaldehyde solution containing 36 percent by weight formaldehyde (11/2 hol), whereupon 0.3 gram of oxalic acid is added.
After brief heating, the contents of the flask become white, whereupon a solution of 76 parts by weight of thiourea (1 mol) in 125 parts by weight of an aqueous 36% formaldehyde solution (l1 / 2 mol) is added. The contents of the kettle, which tend to gelatinize, are liquefied again by adding the thiourea-formaldehyde solution. Then the, reaction mixture is about. Boiled on a reflux condenser for 15 to 30 minutes. A hydrophobic white resin would precipitate on cooling.
The hot solution is then mixed with 136 parts by weight of cellulose, if necessary after dilution, and kneaded thoroughly in a mixer and kneading apparatus. The mixture is then left to itself for 4 hours at normal temperature and then in one. The paddle dryer continued to be treated at 90-100 C. After several hours, the product is ground and further heated until the required compressibility is achieved.
The pressing proceeds smoothly at a temperature of 140 ° C on the die surface and at a specific pressure of around 200 kg / cm2, not only in filling but also in squeezing molds. It is advisable to dry the goods after pressing for about 12 to 20 hours in a room of 80-100 ° C with gentle air movement or in a weak vacuum.
According to this example, well-covered or, with the addition of small amounts of white earth color (e.g. zinc oxide), white compacts can be produced.
2. 76 parts by weight of thiourea (1 hole) are dissolved in 250 parts by weight of an aqueous formaldehyde solution (3 holes) containing 36% by weight of formaldehyde. 1 to 2 g-r oxalic acid are introduced into the boiling solution, as a result of which the hydrogen ion concentration is adjusted to a pH of about 3, and 60 parts by weight (1 hol) of urea are then added.
(Instead of the specified amount of oxalic acid, the corresponding amount of aluminum sulfate or another substance that releases the same or a similar amount of hydrogen ions in the present reaction mixture can be used.) After a short time, the solution, which has remained clear, forms viscous product, which is mixed loose with 136 parts by weight of cellulose.
After intimate mixing in a kneading apparatus, the mass is treated first at normal temperature and then at 90-100 C until the press powder has the necessary compressibility.
The product produced in this way can be pressed too well by shimmering pressed parts of all kinds at a specific pressure of about 200 kg / cm 'and a pressing temperature of about 140 ° C on the die surface.
It is expedient to re-dry the pressed bodies after pressing, in particular to increase the heat resistance, in a drying room of 80-100 C with gentle air movement or in a weak vacuum .
The pellets fully comply with the regulations of the Association of German Electrical Engineers for insulating materials and achieve breaking strengths of -1000 kg / cm 'and above.
Instead of 136 parts by weight of cellulose can protrude as part of the two. Embodiments the same amount as best can be used. The processing is done in the same way.
The compacts made in this way are distinguished by their even higher heat resistance and / or. Ember safety. Likewise, raw cotton can be incorporated into the mixed resins as fiber material or, to achieve special effects, viscose artificial silk or copper artificial silk can be incorporated.
3. 76 parts by weight of thiophene (1 ha) are dissolved in 250 parts by weight of a 36% strength aqueous formaldehyde solution (3 moles). 1 to 2 grams of oxalic acid and then 60 parts by weight of urea (1 hol) are added to the solution.
With this solution, 136 parts by weight of a fiber material are intimately kneaded in a closed mixing and kneading machine, with simultaneous heating for about 1/2 to 1 hour, whereupon the mass is further treated as described in Examples 1 and 2.
After leaving the mixing and kneading device, the moist mixtures of condensation products and fibers can also be passed directly over heated rollers and on them until the necessary degree of polymerization has been achieved. be held at 90 to 100 ° C. The skins obtained in this way are then ground and pressed.
To achieve a variety of colorful effects, a phenol-formaldehyde rapid press mixture can be processed together with a press powder, as can be obtained according to one of the examples described above.
For this purpose, for example, solid pieces are first pressed together in the cold from both press presses: these are then introduced into the die used for hot pressing. In this way wonderfully brightly colored pellets are created that have the appearance of the marble; and other gemstones of all kinds.
