Description

Process for the preparation of 1,4-diogyanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid. The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of the already known 1,4-dioxyanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid which can be used as an intermediate product in the dyestuff industry, characterized in that 2- (2'-methoxy-5'-oxy-4'-carboxylbenzoyl ) - benzoic acid treated with a ring-closing agent, and the 1-metboxy-4-axyanthracbinone-3-carboxylic acid which initially forms is saponified.
The ring closure and the saponification can be accomplished by the same means in one and the same work step by allowing the ring-closing means to continue to act on the starting product for a long time at an elevated temperature.

10 parts by weight of 2- (2'-methoxy-5'-oxy-4'-carboxylbenzoyl) -benzoic acid of melting point 2320 obtained from 2- (2'-methoxy-5'-chloro-4'-carboxylbenzoyl) -benzoic acid by heating with sodium acetate, calcium carbonate and copper bronze to 1400] are added to 100 parts by weight of 20% oleum,
Heated for 15 to 20 minutes on the water bath and the resulting monomethyl ether of 1,4-dioxy-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid was precipitated by pouring it into water. By boiling it is obtained in crystalline form and from glacial acetic acid in beautiful, red-brown columns with a melting point of 215-2160. When the reaction product is heated for several hours with strong sulfuric acid or oleum, saponification to 1,4-diogyanthrachirion-2-carboxylic acid occurs.

10 parts by weight of 2- (2'-methoxy-5'-oxy-4'-carboxylbenzoyl) benzoic acid are introduced into a solution of 24 parts by weight of crystallized boric acid in 150 parts by weight of concentrated sulfuric acid, heated on the water bath for 0 to 6 hours and the result is dene 1,4-Dioxyantbrachinon-2-carboxylic acid precipitated by pouring into water.
The acid, which is filtered and washed out after boiling, melts at 249 to 2500.
