Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Gussstüeken aus einer Aluminium-Legierung mit erheblichem Silizium-Gehalt. Es ist bekannt, dass technisch brauchbare Gussstücke aus Aluminiumlegierungen mit einem erheblichen Siliziumgehalt, beispiels weise 5 bis 20 % Silizium, nur dann erhalten werden, wenn das Giessen dieser Legierungen in einer solchenWeise vorgenommen wird, dass die fertigen Gussstücke ein feinkristallines Gefüge aufweisen.
Dies wurde beispielsweise dadurch erreicht, dass den geschmolzenen Le gierungen, kurz vor dem Guss, Alkalimetalle, Alkalimetallsalze, insbesondere Fluoride, so wie andere Alkalimetallverbindungen zu gesetzt wurden, oder indem dafür gesorgt wurde, dass die Legierungen in der Form zu rascher Erstarrung gebracht wurden.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass eine solche Aluminiumlegierung mit .erheblichem Sili- ziumgehalt, die ausserdem auch noch andere Metalle enthalten kann, nach dem Guss unter Bildung eines feinkristallinen Gefüges er starrt, falls sie geringe Mengen Phosphor enthält. Es genügen hierzu schon Mengen von eintausendstel bis einzehntel Prozent Phosphor. Der Phosphor wird vorteilhaft in elementarer Form zugesetzt; doch können auch Phosphorverbindungen in die ge schmolzene Legierung eingetragen werden.
Die gewünschte Wirkung kann auch dadurch erzielt werden, dass zur Herstellung solcher Legierungen ein Aluminiummetall verwendet wird, das aus einer phosphorhaltigen Ton erde gewonnen wurde und deshalb selber geringe Mengen Phosphor enthält.
Die Gussstücke, die mit Hilfe des vor liegenden Verfahrens erzeugt werden, zeich nen sich durch gute mechanische Eigenschaf ten, gute Giessbarkeit und einen besonders dichten Guss aus.

It is known that technically useful castings made of aluminum alloys with a considerable silicon content, for example 5 to 20% silicon, are only obtained if the casting of these alloys is carried out in such a way that the finished castings have a finely crystalline structure.
This was achieved, for example, by adding alkali metals, alkali metal salts, in particular fluorides, and other alkali metal compounds to the molten alloys shortly before casting, or by ensuring that the alloys were solidified in the form too quickly.
It has now been found that such an aluminum alloy with a considerable silicon content, which can also contain other metals, solidifies after casting with the formation of a finely crystalline structure if it contains small amounts of phosphorus. Amounts of one thousandth to one tenth of a percent phosphorus are sufficient for this. The phosphorus is advantageously added in elemental form; however, phosphorus compounds can also be introduced into the molten alloy.
The desired effect can also be achieved by using an aluminum metal for the production of such alloys, which was obtained from a phosphorus-containing clay and therefore itself contains small amounts of phosphorus.
The castings that are produced with the help of the present process are characterized by good mechanical properties, good castability and a particularly dense casting.
