Description
Yeriahren to represent a condensation product of a phenol and a hydroaromatic ring ketone. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a new condensation product of the formula CIH11-C1H4-OH, characterized in that the trinuclear condensation product of phenol and cyclohexanone described in Swiss Patent No. 134095 is heated to higher temperatures.
The hexahydro-4-oxy-diphenyl obtained in this way shows the properties described in the literature (Wuyts, Bulletin de la Soe. Chim. De Belg., Vol. 26, 304). Example 1: 75 kg 4. 4'-dioxy diphenyl-1. 1'-cyclohexane and 20 kg of anhydrous zinc chloride are melted in a stirred kettle. At around 200 ", vigorous boiling occurs, while the melt takes on a deep blue-violet color. Here, a distillate boiling under normal pressure at 1800 passes over.
To remove the zinc chloride, the residue is extracted with dilute hydrochloric acid and then dissolved with hot sodium hydroxide solution. Upon addition of table salt or excess lye, a sparingly soluble sodium salt precipitates in broad pearlescent crystals, from which acidification and recrystallization from benzene and gasoline or diluted alcohol give the phenolic body crystallizing in snow-white needles with a melting point of 128-129 becomes.
Example 2: 150 kg of 4,4'-dioxydiphenyl-1,1'-cyclohexane are heated to 200 and a stream of dry hydrochloric acid gas is passed through the melt. A lively distillate that solidifies in the original begins immediately. The residue is then distilled in vacuo and a distillate which boils between about 180-2W1 and which quickly solidifies on cooling is collected. By recrystallizing from gasoline or benzene, snow-white, star-shaped, long needles with a melting point of 128-129 are obtained.
