Description
method for the preparation of a pomaceous dye. In the Swiss patent no. 127786 a process for the preparation of a new vat dye (allo-ms-naphtodianthron) is described. 2'-Dimethyl-ms-benzdianthrone with alkaline agents, in the presence or absence of solvents, is treated.
It has now been found that a new vat dye which contains two atoms of chlorine in the molecule is obtained if a chlorinating agent is allowed to act on the allo-ms-naphthodianthrone obtainable, for example, by the process of the patent mentioned. It is advantageous to work in the presence of catalysts. Examples of these are iodine, metals and metal salts. Both free chlorine and chlorine-evolving agents can be used as chlorinating agents; it is also possible to work in the presence of a solvent, and here too, with advantage, in the presence of catalysts.
The new vat dye obtained, which is to be designated as dichloro-allo-ms-naphtodianthrone, is an orange powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a green color and can be precipitated from this solution by diluting it with water. He dyes cotton from a violet vat in orange, clear, strong tones.
Example Z: Part of the vat dye (allo-ms-naphtodianthrone) obtained according to example 1 of Swiss patent no. 127786 is dissolved in 10 to 12 parts of nitrobenzene, whereupon 0.1 part of iodine is added and at 60, with stirring, 1/2 part of sulfuryl chloride is added dropwise. The mixture is stirred for a further 6 hours and, after cooling, the dye which has precipitated in orange-red needles is filtered off with suction.
Example 2: A stream of dry chlorine is passed through a boiling solution of 1 part of the product obtained according to Example 1 of Swiss Patent No. 127786 in 10 parts of trichlorobenzene to which 0.1 part of iodine has been added . The solvent is then driven off with steam and the residue is expediently reprecipitated from concentrated sulfuric acid.
