Method for producing an elastic rubber-like body. In the main patent. a method is described according to which an elastic, rubber-like body is obtained, which can also be used, for example, on the machines commonly used in the rubber industry, such as natural rubber, as well as with fillers, e.g. zinc oxide, carbon black, Magnesia etc., as well as with natural rubber, factice, regenerated etc., can be mixed, shaped and vulcanized,
if you add sulfur or sulfur-releasing substances to ethylene dichloride ii; Presence of an aqueous, alkaline. brings alcoholic or other solvents to action.
It has now been found that one arrives at a similar body. if one uses in that process - instead of Ätbi # leiidi- chloride methylene dichloride. Here, too, the sulfur can be introduced as such in powder form or in the form of a polysulphide or else in gaseous form in the presence of alkalis.
For example, methylene dichloride can be used in the presence of sulfur, sulfur gases or sulfur alkalis with or without pressure at temperatures of 30 to 100 C for the polymerization. to obtain a tough, elastic, resilient mass similar to natural rubber, which is soluble in carbon disulfide.
The representation of this body can also be carried out without heating at the usual temperature (cold polymerization), the polymerization being completed in a few days. The product obtained is also a tough, resistant, elastic mass which is soluble in carbon disulfide.
Example: To 100 parts of an aqueous, all_; a- lic or alcoholic solution which contains sulfur and, for example, as a solution of sulfur-calcium. in polysulfide form, thereby obtained. boiling lime hydrate with sulfur and water and filtering the solution, four parts of methylene dichloride are brought into action.
The halogenated hydrocarbon used is then cleaved, in which the halogen passes over to the alkali and methylene in statu nascendi binds with the sulfur to form a rubber-like body. Depending on the amount of halogenated hydrocarbon used, a more or less elastic product is obtained. The modification of the sulfur used is also decisive for the degree of solubility of the product in carbon disulfide.
