Process and device for the protection of electrical apparatus and machines such as transformers, reactors, switches, motors, generators, etc. It is known that gates in electrical apparatus and machines such as transformers, reactors, switches, motors, generators with solid or liquid insulation agents form vapors and gaseous decomposition products of the solid and liquid insulating agents in abnormal operating conditions and that these, according to patent no.101708 and additional patents no.
114429, 114620, 114621, 114622 and 114623 can be used to trigger an optical or acoustic signal or the electrical apparatus to be protected respectively. Switch off the machine or. Another suitable function or exercise several functions at the same time.
The actuation of a signal, the shut-off device or the like by the vapors and decomposition gases can, as the devices according to the above-mentioned patents show, be achieved in various ways. According to the method according to the present invention, the vapors formed diffuse and Decomposition gases of the solid and liquid insulation in a cell enclosed at least partially by porous walls in such a way that a pressure change (positive or negative pressure) is generated in this cell, which is used to protect the electrical apparatus desired Function, for example, an alarm, shutdown, removal or excitation of a generator.
to open the taps of batteries that release vapors, a neutral gas or the like to put out a fire that has broken out.
In the device for carrying out the method according to the invention, a cell which is at least partially enclosed by porous walls is arranged with respect to the electrical apparatus to be protected or the electrical machine to be protected so that the vapors and decomposition gases that are formed enter the cell diffuse, and means are provided which are intended to perform a function desired to protect the electrical apparatus or the electrical machine through the change in pressure that occurs in this process.
In the drawing, seven Ausfüh approximately examples of this device 'are illustrated schematically.
In Fig. 1 a partially filled with <B> 01 </B> or another insulating means container a of a transformer, switch or the like is shown in longitudinal section. A cell b made of clay is built into the lid of the container. The interior of this cell is connected to a U-shaped bent tube which is terminated by mercury and equipped with a contact c and two mating contacts <I> dl, </I> d2.
As long as the composition and temperature of the gas mixture present in the clay cell matches the gas mixture in the space above the insulating agent, pressure equalization is in place. The queek silver is then the same level in both legs and the contact is broken.
If, however, decomposition gases form, for example hydrogen, methane, ethylene, acetylene, etc., these gases diffuse as soon as they touch the walls of the cell and cause an increase or decrease in pressure in the cell, which changes the level of the mercury level this bridges the contact c and the mating contact d ', respectively. d2 causes. The resulting current circuit can then be used to switch off the electrical apparatus or to operate an acoustic or optical signal or to perform another suitable function.
The cell could also, instead of being arranged in the lid of the container, be arranged at some other point on the container or also outside, for example in the vicinity of the electrical apparatus. Instead of the shape shown, the cell can have any other suitable shape.
Instead of the mercury contact, another electrical contact device, for example a membrane contact or the like, can of course also be used. A mechanical device, for example a pawl, can also be selected instead of an electrical contact device.
In the Ausfüh shown in Fig. 2 is a porous plate e made of plaster of paris, clay or the like in the cover of a vessel from a transformer is built so that the space BEZW over the plate e. the cell f is formed. A resilient metal membrane g acts as a contact device here.
In Figure 3 there means an electrical apparatus or an electrical machine, for example a motor or genera tor, which is located in a housing i. be found and is cooled by a gas stream.
Above the electrical machine or the apparatus there is a capsule b 'arranged, which is divided into two parts by a membrane g' formed as a contact, and the lower wall el is porous, so that the between this and the membrane g ' 'Located lower part of the capsule represents the cells into which the gases can enter through the porous wall. If there is overpressure in the cell, the membrane g ', which represents the upper wall of the cell, is pressed against the upper mating contact, whereas when there is negative pressure in the cell it touches the lower mating contact.
Fig. 4 shows the installation of a diffusion cell in a generator with Kreisküh treatment. k represents the generator, <I> l </I> the cooling unit and m the connecting pipes between these two. Another pipe n is connected in parallel to the pipe formed by the two pipes na, in which the diffusion cell b is installed is. Part of the cooling stream flows continuously through the pipe n, the speed of which can be adjusted with the aid of a throttle valve o. When gases and vapors occur, cell b will respond in the manner described above.
The short circuit can then be used to alarm, switch off the generator, remove excitation, or perform some other suitable function.
Instead of building the cell b into the pipe n, a cell b1 can also be inserted into a pipe p.
In the case of an electric motor or generator, the cell can be arranged in such a way that the gases generated in the stator or rotor by heating the windings, for example as a result of overloading and centrifugally thrown away by the rotor, hit the cell. Thus, according to FIG. 5, the cell can be installed in such a way that the air thrown away by the rotor is partly thrown against the hood q and strikes the cell b arranged in this. This responds as soon as the air is contaminated with decomposition gases.
If necessary, the gases can also be fed into the cell with the aid of a pulling device attached at a suitable point, for example a fan, ejector or the like.
In order to prevent the pores of the cell from being closed by dust, it can expediently be provided with a covering made of silk gauze, asbestos, glass wool or the like to intercept the dust.
For the purpose of making the cell operational again as quickly as possible after the diffusion process, a device can be used to ventilate the cell intermittently, for example by having a valve closed off by a valve on the top and bottom of the cell Attaches opening, and that the valves forcibly, for example, from the shaft of the electric motor or generator, are opened. After the valves are opened, pressure equalization will take place immediately, and in order to accelerate this pressure equalization even more, an air stream generated in any way, for example taken from the atmosphere, can be sent through the cell.
The valves close automatically afterwards, and the cell is operational like that.
By opening the cell at certain time intervals it is achieved at the same time that the contact device is not put into action unnecessarily and in a disruptive manner in the event of temperature and barometer fluctuations.
In addition to accelerating the pressure equalization, purging the cell has the advantage that when the air is enriched with gases very slowly, the percentage content of gas is gradually established evenly inside and outside the cell and therefore always a pressure compensation takes place without the overpressure required to actuate the contact, the cell still comes into effect as soon as the percentage gas content is large enough.
Instead of venting the cell at intervals, you can also provide permanent ventilation. This continuous ventilation can either be achieved by providing the cell with fine openings in a motor or generator, for example, and rotating together with the rotor so that it is continuously flushed with fresh air under the action of centrifugal force. or the cell can also be arranged in such a way that it stands still and the ventilation takes place through the ejector effect exerted by the gases passing by it.
The build-up of moisture in the pores can be prevented by heating the cell, for example by means of an electrical resistance. Incandescent lamp or other suitable means, which are arranged in the cell or outside it, or in such a way that the cell material contains substances that are conductive and cause the cell material to be heated when current flows through it.
The over- or The effect of negative pressure in the cell can be increased if a substance is brought into contact with the cell that has a catalytic effect on the vapors and gases penetrating the cell. either a physical or chemical catalytic effect. A physical-catalytic effect is achieved, for example, when using palladium as a catalyst; a chemical-catalytic effect occurs when using platinum.
In the presence of these substances, heat is generated, which can then be used to heat the air (gas or the like) in the cell and to increase the pressure difference that occurs.
The catalytic material can either be arranged outside or in the cell, or the catalyst can be so finely mixed with the material from which the cell is made during the manufacture of the cell that the pores with the cell after the burning catalytic substance are lined.
To the over or. To increase the negative pressure in the cell, one can also proceed in such a way that the cavity of the cell is partially filled with impermeable bodies, for example. This increases the ratio between the cell surface and the interior of the cell and increases the effect, since the amount of air exposed to diffusion is significantly reduced and since it is accelerated by the creation of a pressure drop.
You can come to the same result if you put the cell walls together in such a way that only a very narrow space, for example of a few millimeters or less, remains between them.
Finally, one can also build the cell in such a way that it consists of several behind or adjacent chambers, into which the gases penetrate one after the other as a result of diffusion. The enrichment of the individual chambers with gas can be calculated according to the laws of diffusion, but is expediently determined by experiments in practice. It also depends on the number of plates, the plate material, the plate thickness, the pore size, the size of the chambers and, of course, on the type of gases and their temperature.
The mode of operation of a cell designed in this way is conceived in such a way that the chamber which contains the highest percentage of gases, i.e. has the greatest pressure difference, acts on the mechanical or electrical contact device in any way.
In order to achieve a selective diffusion, that is, a sieving out of the gases, one can proceed in such a way that one arranges either several cells with porous walls made of different material, or in the case of cells that consist of a series of chambers, the porous ones Making partitions from different materials.
If one wants to make the cell independent of temperature or pressure fluctuations, one can proceed as follows, for example according to FIGS. 6 and 7: Two cells b2, b3 are arranged in a pipe r (FIG. 6), the interiors of which are connected by a connecting line communicate with each other. The connecting line be seated a U-shaped leg that contains mercury and is provided with the contact c and the mating contacts d. @, D2.
Both cells are subject to any temperature or pressure fluctuation evenly. If this occurs, since the cells communicate with one another, the mercury column will not be displaced and the contact will not respond. In the tube there is also a partition s which separates the two cells from one another in such a way that the gas flow can only hit one cell (for example cell b2). If it encounters this, since the other cell is unaffected by gases, the mercury column will rise and the contact will be activated.
Instead of arranging a partition, one can also proceed (according to FIG. 7) in such a way that one of the two cells b3 is surrounded by an envelope t such that the gas stream does not reach it,
