Instrument for measuring excess temperatures. The present invention is an instrument for measuring over temperatures. The same is characterized by the fact that two identical bimetallic strips, of which only one is exposed to the temperature to be determined, are each fastened with one end on an axis and, when heated, bend in proportion to the temperature difference of the two bimetallic strips, with the second The end of a bimetal strip is held while the second end of the other strip actuates an organ.
The drawing illustrates two exemplary embodiments from the subject of the invention.
In the example according to Fig. 1, two bimetallic strips 1 and 2 are attached parallel to one another on a common axis 3 rotatably mounted in the housing, in such a way that they bend towards the same side when heated. The bimetal strip 2 is hinged to an arm 4 at a fixed point 5, while the bimetal strip 1 is connected via an arm 6 to a pointer 7 that can rotate about the axis 8.
The shape and position of the bimetal strips 1 and 2 shown in Fig. 1 may correspond to a certain temperature, for example <B> 0 ', </B>. If the temperature of both bimetallic strips changes by, for example, + 50, then they both bend in the same sense through into the shape indicated by dashed lines. Since the point a of the bimetal strip 2 practically does not change its location, the point b of the bimetal strip 1 also retains its position, that is, the position of the pointer 7 is independent of temperature changes that both bimetal strips experience at the same time.
It is different if the two bimetal strips assume different temperatures: If, for example, 2 is heated by <B> 50 '</B> above the temperature of 1, then 2 bends more than 1. Since point a is now held by arm 4 is, the point b must change its position by an amount that corresponds to the deflection of 2, and this change in position is transmitted to the pointer 7 by the arm 6.
The position of the pointer 7 thus gives a measure of the temperature difference between the two bimetal strips and is practically independent of their absolute temperature within wide limits.
The arrangement according to Fig. 1 has the advantage that the two bimetal strips can be pressed relatively far apart, so that! the warming of one does not affect the temperature of the other. The only connection of significant thermal conductivity between 1 and 2 is the axis 3, the cross-section of which, however, can be selected so small that no significant heat transfer from 2 to 1 takes place.
Incidentally, the mutual position of the bimetal strips 1 and 2 on the axis 3 can be arbitrary. If you twist one of the bimetallic strips according to Fig. 1 against the other by <B> 180 ', </B> you get the arrangement according to Fig. 2, in which the same designations are chosen for the same parts as in Fig. 1 The mode of operation of the arrangement according to Fig. 2 is exactly the same as that of Fig. 1, only that the bimetallic strips bend to opposite sides.
The display of a temperature difference can only be a means to an end. The bimetal strip 2 in Fig. 1 can, for example, be heated directly or indirectly by an electrical current, so that the temperature difference between the bimetal strips 1 and 2 is a measure for this electrical current.
The excess temperature could also be indicated by means of a relay which is actuated by the end b of the strip 1.
