Le bâti 1 comporte une barre prismatique 20 le long de laquelle se déplace et est guidé un support 21 comportant une vis 22 dont l'axe est ainsi toujours situé dans le prolongement de l'axe de l'évidement cylin drique 2; la vis 22 comporte une rotule 23 sur laquelle se déplace un organe d'appui 24;
1,e fonctionnement de l'appareil est le sui vant : après avoir introduit un bandage 25 dans la mâchoire constituée par le levier 10 et l'organe d'appui \_'4, il suffit d'actionner la vis 22 de manière à exercer ainsi une pression initiale sur les parois latérales du bandage pneumatique pour que l'aiguille 14 vieillie se placer cri face du point de repère 17 ;
cette opération a pour but de permettre de tenir compte des différences d'épaisseur des bandages, de leur usure, et de placer l'appareil dans des conditions uniformes de fonctionnement pour tons les cas, et quelle que soit la constitution. du bandage. Il suffit alors de faire tourner d'un demi-tour le levier 8 dont l'excentrique 6 vient repous- ser- le piston 3, lequel comprime le ressort 5 ;
Apparatus for measuring the inflation pressure of pneumatic tires. The object of the present invention is an apparatus for measuring the inflation pressure of pneumatic tires based on the following property: if a solid that anyone is pressed on the surface of a pneumatic tire, the exerted pressure divided by the contact area between the tire and the solid is approximately equal to the air pressure in the tire.
The frame of the apparatus comprises a cylindrical recess in which move at each end of the pistons between which is placed a spring, one of the pistons being moved to a determined extent inside the cylindrical recess by means of of an eccentric controlled by a lever, while the other piston can exert a pressure against the band by a support member, a connecting member transmitting the movement of the piston to a needle moving on the dial having a scale graduated in pressure units, this scale further comprising a sign constituting a reference point, the frame comprising a support provided with a screw having towards one end a support member, the axis of the screw being located in line with the axis of the cylindrical recess,
the whole established in such a way that by placing the apparatus on a pneumatic tire so that the side walls of the latter press, one against one of the pistons, and the other against the body of the latter. support of the support screw, it is possible, by actuating the support screw, to exert a lateral pressure on the tire so as to move the piston and thus place the needle of the dial on the reference point of the graduated scale, and then that it is possible, by means of the lever comprising an eccentric, to move the piston compressing the spring whose pressure is exerted on the piston pressing against the support member, to a determined extent. so as to push said support member and the support member of the support into the side walls of the pneumatic tire against which they press,
the compression deformation of the spring as a result of being a function of the inflation pressure resistance of the tire, and said deformation of the spring being made readable by the needle of the dial moving on the scale graduated in pressure units The accompanying drawing shows , by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, the apparatus being seen from one of its faces.
The frame 1 of the apparatus comprises a cylindrical recess 2 inside which move pistons 3 and 4 between which is interposed a coil spring 5 pressing at its ends against the pistons 3 and 4.
An eccentric 6 pivoting at 7 on the frame 1 and comprising a control arm 8, presses against the outer part of the udder tone 3, so that when the arm 8 is lowered by half a turn it pushes the piston 3 inside the recess 2 and compresses the spring 5 to an extent determined once and for all by the curve of the profile given to the eccentric 6.
The outer part of the piston 4 com carries a ball 9 pressing against a lever 10 pivoting at 11 on the frame 1, said lever 10 being kept constantly pressed against the ball 9 by a spring 12; the lever 10 carries the articulation of a connecting member 13, the other end of which is articulated to a needle 14 pivoting at 15, thus making the needle 14 integral with the movements of the lever 10; the hand 14 moves on a dial 16 comprising a scale graduated in units of pressure, for example from one to six atmospheres; the graduated scale has a sign 17 constituting a reference point, the usefulness of which is described below.
The dial 16 is covered by a protective plate 18, preferably metallic, which is pierced with a slot 19 in the form of an arc of a circle, revealing the graduated scale of the dial ; </ B > the dial 16 is graduated on both sides so that one can read either side of the device.
The frame 1 comprises a prismatic bar 20 along which moves and is guided a support 21 comprising a screw 22 whose axis is thus always located in the extension of the axis of the cylindrical recess 2; the screw 22 comprises a ball 23 on which a support member 24 moves;
thanks to the mobility of the support 21 on the bar 20 it is possible to vary the distance between the lever 10 and the support member 24, thus making it possible to interpose between these members, forming a kind of jaw, pneumatic tires of greater or lesser section; for devices rie to be applied only to tires of one dimension, the frame 1 and the support 21 would form a single part.
Another embodiment of the apparatus described is provided in which the pivoting lever 10, the ball 9 and the connecting member 13 would be omitted; in this case, the ball 9 would be replaced by a support member similar to the support member 24, which would be connected by a ball joint to the piston 4; furthermore, the needle 14 of the dial would then be controlled directly by the piston 4 by means of an appropriate connecting mechanism replacing the connecting member 13.
1, the operation of the apparatus is as follows: after having introduced a bandage 25 into the jaw formed by the lever 10 and the support member \ _ '4, it suffices to actuate the screw 22 so as to thus exerting an initial pressure on the side walls of the pneumatic tire so that the aged needle 14 is placed opposite the reference point 17;
The purpose of this operation is to make it possible to take into account the differences in the thickness of the tires, their wear, and to place the apparatus in uniform operating conditions for all cases, and whatever the constitution. bandage. It then suffices to turn the lever 8 by half a turn, the eccentric 6 of which pushes the piston 3, which compresses the spring 5;
the compression of the spring 5 has the effect of exerting pressure against the piston 4, the ball 9 and the lever 10 pressing laterally against the tire 25 of which it is a question of me surer the inflation pressure; depending on the greater or lesser inflation pressure of the pneumatic tire, the lever 10 and the support member 24 will be inserted more or less into the latter, that is to say that the needle 14. integral with the movements of the lever 10, will deviate all the more from the reference point 17 as the pressure of the tire is lower by calibrating the apparatus so that the scale of the dial 16 is graduated in pressure units, it is thus possible read on dial 16 the inflation pressure of the pneumatic tire.
By raising the lever 8 to place it in its initial position, the members of the apparatus automatically return to their starting position, due to the action of the res out 12 acting on the lever 10.
