Process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye. In the main patent no. 116153 a process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye was described which, mixed with the usual substrates, forms a clear, red lacquer with very good fastness properties, is particularly suitable for vulcanization-proof rubber dyeing and, on cotton produced, coloring it in red, beech-fast shades.
The process consists in combining the dia.zo compounds of p-chloro-m-toluidine (CH;: NH,: Cl = 1: 3: 4) with 2. 3-oxynaphthoic acid-s-naplithalide.
It has now been found that a dye with the same valuable properties is obtained if the diazo compound of p-bromo-o-toluidine (CH ": NH, Br = 1: 2: 4) is used with 2. 3 -Oxynaphthoic acid- P-naphthalide combined.
When dried, the dye forms a blue-tinged red powder that is insoluble in water and soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red-violet color. Example: 18.4 parts of p-bromo-o-toluidine are diazotized in the usual way and the diazo solution with a solution of 32.9 parts of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid-s-naphthalide in ver thin sodium hydroxide solution, which is mixed with the sufficient amount of sodium acetate and turkey red oil to bind the excess mineral acid.
The precipitated dye is filtered off and washed well. It is advantageously used in paste form to represent paint. The paints produced therefrom in the customary manner produce a bluish red.
To be used for coloring rubber goods, it is carefully dried, powdered and finely sieved while preserving a loose structure as possible.
The dye, produced on cotton, dyes the same in bluish red shades with excellent fastness properties.
