Process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye. In the main patent no. 116153 a process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye was described which, mixed with the usual substrates, forms a clear, red lacquer with very good fastness properties, is particularly suitable for vulcanization-proof rubber dyeing and, on cotton produced, coloring the same in red, beech-fast tones.
The process consists in that: the @diazo compound of p-chloro-m-toluidine (CH, : NH2: Cl - 1: 3: 4) with 2. 3-oxynaphthoic acid-ss -naphthalide combined.
It has now been found that a dye with the same valuable properties is obtained if the diazo compound of p-chloro-o-aminophenylbenzyl ether (OCHz Cs H,: NH2: Cl = 1: 2: 4) is used 2. 3-oxynaphthoic acid-ss-naphthalide - combined.
Dried. the dye forms a red powder that is insoluble in water and soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blue-violet color. Example: 23.4 parts of p-chloro-o-aminophenylbenzyl ether are diazo- tated in the usual way, and the diazo solution with a solution of 32.9 parts of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid ss-naphthalide in dilute sodium hydroxide solution, which is mixed with sufficient sodium acetate and turkey red oil to bind the excess mineral acid, is coupled.
The precipitated dye is filtered off and washed well. It is advantageously used in paste form to represent paint. The paints produced in the usual way deliver a blue-tinged red.
To be used for coloring rubber goods, it is carefully dried, powdered and finely sieved while preserving a loose structure as possible.
The dye, produced on cotton, dyes the same in bluish red tones with excellent fastness properties.
