Silencieux.
A titre d'exemple de réalisation, une forme d'exécution d'un silencieux de ce nouveau genre est ci-après décrite et représentée au dessin annexé, dans lequel: Fig. 1 est une vue en élévation de côté de cet exemple, convenant pour motocyclette; Fig. 2 en est une vue en coupe médiane transversale; Fig.3, une vue schématique, en coupe médiane longitudinale, dans la position de l'organe mobile donnant l'échappement amorti; Fig. 4 est une coupe médiane transver sale correspondante; rig. 5 est une même vue schématique, en coupe médiane longitudinale, montrant la position de l'organe mobile donnant l'échap pement libre;
Quiet. The present invention relates to a silencer with free-flow or damped exhaust, for the evacuation of combustion gases from internal combustion engines, more particularly applicable to the engines of motorcycles or other motor vehicles of the same type.
In the different models of silencer with free exhaust at will, currently used, the free exhaust is achieved by allowing the burnt gases to escape, directly into the atmosphere, by means and by the operation of flaps, flaps, registers, valves. , etc., arranged in the engine exhaust piping, in front of the passage of the gases in baffled chambers or other similar arrangements having the effect, when free exhaust is not required, of allowing the pressure to be released. gas for their silent discharge through the silencer outlet pipe.
The silencer according to the invention is established in such a way that, both for the free exhaust and for the damped exhaust, the combustion gases are evacuated through the same outlet pipe of the silencer, a movable member allowing one to put it at will. -Here in direct communication with the exhaust pipe of the engine, by a channel of said member coming to be placed in the extension of this pipe, between the latter and said outlet pipe of the silencer, or to interrupt this direct communication by Obli geant the gases coming from the piping of the engine to follow another path along which it undergoes at least one expansion before escaping through said outlet pipe.
By way of exemplary embodiment, an embodiment of a silencer of this new type is described below and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of this example, suitable for a motorcycle; Fig. 2 is a view in transverse median section; Fig.3, a schematic view, in longitudinal median section, in the position of the movable member giving the damped exhaust; Fig. 4 is a corresponding transverse median section; rig. 5 is the same schematic view, in longitudinal median section, showing the position of the movable member giving the free exhaust;
Fig. 6 is a corresponding transverse median section.
The silencer shown, which may be made of cast aluminum, consists of a silencer body 1 and a control valve 2, constituting the movable member.
This body 1, of appropriate shape; constitutes a sort of distribution box, comprising at its central part, a cylindrical housing 3 for the rotary valve 2, closed laterally, on one side by the wall 4 of the body 1, and on the other by an attached cover 5 , allowing the introduction of the bushel.
. The lower part of the body 1 comprises, along the same longitudinal axis passing roughly through the center of the cylindrical housing 3, two holes 6 opening into said housing 3 and to the outside, and in which end and are secured the ends of the engine exhaust pipe 7 and silencer outlet pipe 8.
The upper part of the body 1, constituting the silencer itself, comprises a baffled circuit 9, the inlet opening 10 of which opens into the housing 3, above that 6 of the gas inlet of the pipe 7, the circuit 9 being baffled by means of partitions 11, to come out into the housing 3 through its outlet orifice 12, above the orifice 6 for the gas outlet in the pipe 8, the space 13 between the two baffles 11, also opening into the housing 3, so as to allow the gases, during their path baffled at 9, to relax more completely, using for this purpose, one of the recesses of the valve 2, the arrangement of this opening 13 being able to if necessary be deleted.
As regards the rotary distribution part 2, or plug, the latter is constituted by a cylindrical body of metal, preferably of aluminum, fitting into the cylindrical housing 3 of the body 1 of the silencer.
It comprises, on each of these lateral faces, an axial projection 14 pivoting in an ad hoc central recess provided in the wall 4; and an axial projection 15, passing through the cover 5, and on which is wedged the actuating pedal 16 of the plug 2, the stopping of the latter, in the free exhaust position or not, being ensured by an elastic plate 17, also wedged on said projection 15, comprising a stud 18 engaging in one or the other housing 19, provided for this purpose, on the outer face of the cover 5.
This bushel 22 is crossed, diametrically, by a hole 20, of diameter corresponding to that of the orifices 6. On its periphery, on each side of the passage 20, pockets 21 and 22 are formed, of sufficient dimensions to come. each facing, and simultaneously, with the openings 6 and those 10 and 12 of the baffled circuit 9, other pockets 23 made similarly only having the effect of lightening the mass of the plug 2 thus formed, these recesses 23 being able to need to be deleted.
Thus constituted, it is easily understood that by the simple operation of the pedal 16, brought into one or other of its extreme positions, one obtains, as shown in FIG. 3, the damped exhaust of the burnt gases, arriving via the pipe 7 of the engine, by their passage through the pocket 21, the baffled circuit 9 with additional expansion in the closed space formed by the channel 20, the pocket 22, for finally be expelled by the tu bulure 8 of the silencer, the free exhaust, directly from the pipe 7 in the pipe 8, being produced by the direct and continuous communication resulting from the position of the plug 2, the passage 20 of which is brought into the extension and between the two conduits 7 and 8, as shown in fig. 5.
It is understood that other embodiments of the invention could be imagined and that changes and modifications in the details could be made, as well as the use of equivalent means could be envisaged, without departing from the spirit governing said invention.
