Installation motrice.
vapeur, etla. turbine n'a. pas besoin d'être -p#Iei, alement établie du point de vue de l'in- vention. Dans la turbine ù action T repré- ;
#entée les gaz d'échappement sont dirigés eonire les aubes de turbine par une pluralité clé tuyères ii (fig. J., 3 et 4), dont une partie ou toutes sont commandées par des tiroirs30 aetionnés à la main. La détente des waz dans la turbine est poussée jusqu'àla. pression at- inosphérique.et le gaz est ensuite déchargé de la turbine.
Pour le déniarrace, la forme d'exécution décrite peut être mise en rotationà l'aide d'air d'une bouteille de démarrage, ou par voie ,;lectrique (non représenté). Les cylindres du voinpresseur C2 avec l'admission ouverte ii, l'atmosphère fourniront un volume d'air suf fisant pour balayer et chargerà une pres sion et température convenables pour les con ditions de eoinbustion;
Power plant. The present invention relates to a power plant comprising at least one internal combustion engine of the type with compressed air supply for the sweeping and the charge of the cylinder (s) of the engine, in #combination with at least two separate air compressors for supplying combustion air to the internal combustion engine, one of these air compressors being controlled by a motive power unit secondary actuated by the exhaust gases of said internal combustion motorcycle.
Ur ne execution form of the object of. The invention is shown, to, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a view of the whole of this embodiment of the motor installation; Fig. 2 is a schematic sectional view of part of the installation shown in FIG. 1; Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
The power plant shown comprises two compressors C 'C', one of which, C ', is a centrifugal compressor < B> at large (, speed directly connected to the 10 shaft of a gas turbine T which - works with the gases which have undergone a partial expansion in the cylinders e of a polycylindrical engine with internal combustion, with two-stroke, E, and Have been transferred from said cylinders to said turbine T at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, while the other compressor, C ',
is a reciprocating compressor comprising according to fig. 2 two double-acting cylinders 12, 13, mounted one on top of the other and containing sliding pistons 15, 16 actuated by a common crank 18 of the shaft 19 of the internal combustion engine and therefore running at speed of that ei. B is a purge air receptacle connected by the pipe P 'to the compressor C' which is itself connected by the pipe P 'to the rotary compressor C'. Line P 'has a # valve branch 25 for free air intake.
It has been found that in the two-stroke engine having piston-controlled inlet and discharge ports 21, 22 occurs, as a result of resistance in the passages, a Appreciable pressure drop between the permissible scavenging pressure of the engine and the. 'almost constant pressure of the gases supplied it to the turbine T,
this pressure drop being able to be in a miwhine to, large of about () # ') 8 atm. for example. Otherwise (reads, with a pressure of ga7 of approximately 1.27 idin. of overpressure (compared to to the </ B> atinosoplieric pressure it the inlet (the the turbille T,
the air pressure in air container B would be approximately 1.55 atm. of overpressure and the pressure in the cylinders during the. period d (, swept would be at about the, average of (, the two pressures.
If the turbine, 7 ' is fed (the gas has an overpressure of 1.27 atm. (-F at a temperature of around 420 '# C, these gases coming from the gas 31 manifold connected, on the one hand . to the exhaust ports 22 of the e cylinders and, on the other hand, by the lead JI ' to the turbine T.
and let it relax to, atmospheric pressure, using a good turbine construction and (the 410111pressor, it y will have sufficient a, energy to recover in the exhaust gases to compress the amount of air required to sweep and charge the cylinders of the engine #D from bed, pressure atmospheric to about 1 atm of overpressure.
The compressor C ' is of the type to multiple C z1vee intercoolers between them and it delivers air to 1 atm. of overpressure to a Y cooler where its density increases further before it is admitted to a-Li second breaker C2 which completes la, air pressure up to the inlet pressure of 1.55 atm. dr- #: pressure.
In this embodiment, the energy available in the exhaust gases transferred (# res from the cylinders of the engine E to the gas turbine T is efficiently utilized in it. to make the greatest possible work by compressing the air by the rotary #compressor C ',
'while the compressor C' 4 intended for make up for the recovered work (the this to the extent ' necessary to deliver Fair to the pressure necessary to sweep and charge the e cylinders of the mo- if-ur E. The amount of this extra work of the compressor C # - i-tetioiiii6 per the shaft 19 of the engine E depends on the variations in the work supplied by the gas turbine 1 '.
The pressure in the container Ù. air Pi will remain at little Near constant 111 with suitable variations in b. work provided by the iurbo-eonipressor group T C '.
In addition, in this embodiment, means are provided to be able to charge the cylinders e (hi engine when starting hot ] air) I '(>' -, Il # -11 ) lelnelll # eoiliprinié. The Engine E can be implemented for example with the help of compressed air coming from a compressed air tank (not shown, '- sent),
and by opening the air intake connection 25 of the piston C * 2 temporarily to free atmosphere, said compressor will then supply (the compressed air pressure and temperature to ensure ignition eoiiditions in M-1 the engine E.
To explain the v-vele oj) #rations de the deerite run-form of the installation. we will follow the path of Fair used as working fluid for a determined or normal power and of the main machine.
The eenirifu- #! C ' by the -az turbine T sucks Fair in lai- mosplière and the dMivre at a pressure seiisi - fairly constant, say 1 atm. out of-. pressure approximately in the case considered. As a result of this eom # res,: ion. the air is heated.
Fau, the increase in temperature being partly due to the effect and partly due to the mechanical fretion of the fluid.
The K. to cooler, through which Vair is first passed, further reduces its temperature. the function of this cooler being the same as that of the iiitc-rm # diary coolers between the stages of a multiple-stellar compressor by the fact that it serves 'to r # '(lIIire il the times the power and the flight capacity required for the < / B>
sevon (j compressor C. The cooling of the air during or after compression is arbitrary and can be omitted, although a re - cooling, fle eptie manner is desirable. The air leaving the cooler K through la eoli # ll - Lite P 'is delivered to the compressor C \ where it is compressed This second wedge-presser borrows its movement from the 19 shaft of the main meeur'and runs at speed (the this shaft.
The air intake and discharge from the cylinders of this piston C ' compressor are controlled by valves of the automatic type used in general in these compressors and not shown. The pressure at against which the air is supplied from this second compressor is held approximately constant and is regulated as described below.
In the case shown, this pressure is approximately 1.55 atm. de overpressure, the pressure in the cylinders e 'du. engine F, during the scanning period being approximately 1.4 atm. overpressure and the supply pressure in the manifold (the JI gas for the turbine T being about 1.27 atm. of overpressure.
Of course, the air has been heated again as a result of this compression in the compressor C2 and from this the compressed air is supplied, by < B> the eanduite P ', to the air container -R where it is available for sweeping and char- O'Pr the cylinders of the engine E.
The possibility that the air pressure de- delivered by the first compressor C 'could be somewhat higher or lower than the pressure normally desired, does not require special precautions with regard to the second compressor C '. This will continue to deliver air at a pressure of approx. ron-1 , 55'atm. pressure relief and, thanks to its automatic pressure-controlled valves, its operation in terms of compressing the air will always be satisfactory.
The aforementioned variations only affect the quantity of air supplied and the power absorbed by the second compressor C '; a fall at, 0,
85 atm. de- overpressure for example in the pressure established by the first compressor C ' would reduce the weight of the compressed air and slightly increase the power required by the second compressor C2. An increase in pressure above 1 atm.- key overpressure would have the effect; opposite.
The following description will show that the operation of the main machine E is not indirectly affected by these variations in the quantity of air supplied. It is only necessary to take care that the normal pressure of 1 atm. pressure is established in a quantity of air to be released slightly greater than the safety required to sweep and charge the cylinders of the engine E.
Compression in two distinct pliases as in the embodiment described, allows (]! To use in full all the energy that can be developed by the exhaust gases of the cylinders e (the engine E </ B> and take advantage of the movement of the drive shaft 19 to provide the additional energy necessary to supplement the required compression.
The engine E is, as said above, of the type to two such ' Ups, the sweep and the load a cylinders e with compressed air being carried out at, an approximately constant pressure substantially above atmospheric pressure after the exhaust of gases from said cylinders.
During the sweeping period a pressure difference must be maintained between the air container B and the gas manifold M for the turbine power supply, the size is determined by the machine's bed speed and by the area of lights provided for the passage of air.
In a high speed machine operating well under the conditions described, a pressure of about 0.3 atni. is required to cause the necessary movement from Vair to through lights and cy- cylinders.
Thus, with an overpressure of 1.55 atm. (in relation to to the iitinosph ('## rique) pressure in the to air receptacle R, the corresponding pressure in the discharge column Il </ B> which feeds the tuibine T will be about -1.25 atm.of overpressure.
This pressure difference will ensure the replacement of the. column of burnt gas which- is present in each cylinder at the end of its working stroke by a comparatively cold fresh air column. Each cylinder e will therefore start at there compression period of its working cycle with a filling of air tD of an intermediate pressure between these pressures, or ù approximately 1.1- atm. of. #: IIrpressio1i.
The exhaust gases maintained in the gas manifold ill at an overpressure of 1.25 atm. and at a temperature of about 420 ' C are available for use in the T turbine. The development of energy gi - e by the expansion of the gases does not differ essentially from that obtained by the expansion of
steam, and the. turbine did. no need to be -p # Iei, albeit established from the point of view of the invention. In the turbine ù action T represented;
# entering the exhaust gases are directed to the turbine blades by a plurality of nozzles ii (fig. J., 3 and 4), some or all of which are controlled by sliders 30 hand-held . The expansion of the waz in the turbine is pushed to la. at- inospheric pressure, and the gas is then discharged from the turbine.
The control of the turbine nozzles w makes it possible to establish and maintain the desired operating pressure in the machine E. By either opening or closing a slide 30 at the turbine, the, pressure in the manifold (the gas M can be reduced or increased, as the case may be. De this way, we can maintain an overpressure., zioil of 1.2.5 atm. in the M. gas collector and the pressure in the il air B container will establish itself to give the value (the pressure required in the cylinders e of the machine E.
No special way to adjust the turbo-compressor unit is required. The speed of the turbine T will rise ù, a point at which the energy absorbed by the compressor C 'balances the key efficiency the 1 urbine.
By shutting down turbine nozzles ii. the pressure in the air container R can; be brought to let's say 2J atm. about overpressure. Each machine cylinder e will then be loaded with a greater weight of air, thus allowing more fuel el to be burned; key develop more key power. The turbine T being supplied with exhaust gas at a greater pressure, it will develop 1 - a greater power and will put the compressor C '< / B> ÎÎ even to deliver the necessary increased quantity of air.
By opening inlet nozzles ii, the pressure in the air vessel R will be reduced, and the machine E will advantageously carry the reduced load.
For the inconvenience, the embodiment described can be rotated by using air from a starter bottle, or by means of an electric (not shown). The cylinders of the C2 voinpressor with the open inlet ii, the atmosphere will provide a sufficient volume of air to sweep and charge at a pressure and temperature suitable for conditions of eoinbustion;
thus the machine starts in a similar way to, any ordinary two-stroke machine before the turbo-compressor group T C '< / I> se mptie en marelie. During this time interval, free air can be drawn in from the outside through the free air 25 branch whose valve will then be closed.
Turbine nozzles n form a positive throttle in the exhaust gas discharge passage and the gradual increase in pressure attainable by it will cause a gradual start! of the turbine T and of the compressor C ', The closing of the valve 25 will lead to a gradual increase in the pressure in the t, compression means,
which then continues until the condition (the desired operation. As well as the execution form described- can be started without the help of the turbo-compressor unit T </ I > C ', it can operate strictly with this unit out of service. By opening the valve on branch 25 of the. Line P' and a valve in a branch 35 that the pipe 31 ' re connecting the manifold of gas 31 to </ B > In the turbiiiv T, the E engine will run continuously as an ordinary two-stroke machine.
In this case, the full normal power of the machine cannot be developed.
In ordinary , internal combustion nuqeliines it is possible to recover energy from the motor shaft in a measure of 30% approximately of </ B > the calorific value of (10111bustible, approximately 30 % is lost through] the cylinder walls and again 30 'Xo is lost, along with the exhaust gases. There are a therefore don ,, main sources of heat losses. The T turbine is used here a use the heat in the exhaust gases of the machine.
However, if desired, you can take advantage at both of the waste heat in the walls (the cylinders and of the waste heat at e- ( , entrapment of, the turbine. For example, the hot water circulating around the cylinders can be evaporated by the heat of the exhaust gases and the viper thus obtained can be used to operate secondary devices.
In the faith of execution decreed, the wedge-presser C \ actuated by the shaft of the motor E 'replaces the compression work provided by Pénercie des caz d exhaust of the inorifier. However, we can
0 instead of having this compressor actuated by the motor shaft, provide an ilidepilable source of energy to actuate this compressor.
In one form of execution involving two internal combustion or higher combustion engines (as for example in a twin helicopter) and in which the pair of alignment, would be compressed in two distinct phases, a compressor C 'can be iiis- talM on the shaft of each motor,
and these compressors can supply a common air receptacle which supplies to soli turn the various engines. Similarly, the exhaust gases from these engines can be used in a single gas turbine instead of having one turbine for each machine.
It was said that the exhaust gases (the cylinders of the E engine were sent to the turbine via a gas manifold disposed between it and the engine. N-but, this gas manifold could also be omitted and the passage of the engine exhaust gases to said turbine could be produced in any other suitable manner. The installation could include more than two air breakers.
