Process for dyeing and printing hydrophobic fiber material. It has been found that valuable dyeings and prints on hydrophobic fiber material, for example made of cellulose esters, such as cellulose? 1/2 acetate or cellulose triacetate, polyesters, in particular polyethylene terephthalate, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile or polyvinyl chloride are obtained,
if the dyes used are aryl mereapto-anthraquinones in which one benzene ring has an aryl mercapto group and, if appropriate, substituents which do not make water solubility and the other benzene ring has at most aryl mercapto groups as possible substituents, with the exception of those anthraquinone dyes,
which contain a hydroxyl group in at least one a-position and no amino groups attached to the anthraquinone nucleus, and also with the exception of 1-amino-anthraquinones, which carry the aromatic thioether radical in the 4-position. The excluded dyes are the dyes defined in the claims of patents 373,011 and 369,741.
The dyes which can be used according to the invention preferably contain at least one aryl mercapto group in an α-position of the anthraquinone nucleus. They are free from water-solubilizing substituents such as sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups.
Examples of aryl mercapto groups are a- and p-naphthyl mercapto groups and, in particular, phenyl mercapto groups, the latter being able to have substituents in the phenyl radical, for example halogen atoms, lower alkyl, oxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or alkoxy groups, oxy, amino, Nitro, cyano or carbalkoxy groups.
On that benzene ring of the anthraquinone nucleus on which there is an aryl mercapto group, the dyes can have other substituents not soluble in water, for example halogen atoms, such as chlorine or bromine atoms, and also oxy or alkoxy, alkyl or alkyl mercapto, nitro or in particular amino groups, as such, in addition to the NH # I group, also alkylamino,
Cycloalkylamino, aralkylamino or arylamino groups come into question. These substituents are also preferably in the a-position. Of particular interest are dyes which have a substituted amino group in the 1-position, for example an alkylamino or an acylamino group, or dyes,
which have 1 to 2 aryl mercapto groups and no other substituents on the anthraquinone nucleus.
The following dyes may be mentioned as examples: 1-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone, 1,5- or 1,8-diphenylmereaptoanthraquinone, 1-chloro-4-p-tolylmercaptoanthraquinone, 1-methylamino-4-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone, 1-oxyethylamino-4-phenylmercaptoanthronone -Phenylamino-4-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone, 1-acetylamino-4-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone, 1-amino-2,4-diphenylmercaptoanthraquinone, 2-amino-l-phenylmercapto-3-bromoanthraquinone, 1-4p-dimethylaminophenyl) mercapton.
These dyes are obtained if, for example, nitro- or halogenanthraquinones are reacted with aryl mercaptans by a known method. In certain cases, the use of mixtures of two or more of the dyes to be used according to the process can be advantageous.
For dyeing, the dyes mentioned are advantageously used in finely divided form and dyed with the addition of dispersants, such as sulphite cellulose waste liquor or synthetic detergents, or a combination of various wetting and dispersing agents. As a rule, it is advisable to convert the dyes to be used into a dye preparation which contains a dispersing beer agent and finely divided dye in such a form that a fine dispersion is formed when the dye preparations are diluted with water.
Such dye preparations can be used in a known manner, e.g. by grinding the dye in dry or wet form with or without the addition of dispersants during the grinding process.
To achieve strong dyeing on polyethylene terephthalate fibers, it is advisable to add a swelling agent to the dye bath or to carry out the dyeing process under pressure at temperatures above 1000, for example 120o.
Suitable swelling agents are aromatic carboxylic acids such as benzoic acid or salicylic acid, phenols such as o- or p-oxydiphenyl, aromatic halogen compounds such as chlorobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene or trichlorobenzene, phenylmethylcarbinol,
or diphenyl. When dyeing under pressure, it is found to be advantageous to make the dyebath slightly acidic, for example by adding a weak acid, e.g. Acetic acid.
The dyes to be used according to the invention prove to be particularly suitable. for dyeing according to the so-called heat-setting process, after which the fabric to be dyed is impregnated with an aqueous dispersion of the dye, which advantageously contains 1 to 50% urea and a thickener, in particular sodium alginate, preferably at temperatures of at most 60 ° and as usual is squeezed.
It is advisable to squeeze in such a way that the impregnated goods retain 50 to 100% of their initial weight in dyeing liquid.
To fix the dye, the fabric impregnated in this way, expediently after drying, z.8. in a warm air stream, heated to temperatures of over 100o, for example between 180 to 2100.
Of particular interest is the heat setting process just mentioned for dyeing blended fabrics made of polyester fibers and cellulose fibers, especially cotton.
In this case, in addition to the dye to be used according to the invention, the padding liquid also contains dyes suitable for dyeing cotton, for example direct dyes or vat dyes or in particular so-called.
Reactive dyes, i.e. Dyes which can be fixed on the cellulose fiber with the formation of a chemical bond, for example dyes containing a chlorotriazine or chlordiazine radical. In the latter case it proves to be expedient to add an acid-binding agent, for example an alkali carbonate or alkali phosphate, alkali borate or perborate or mixtures thereof to the padding solution.
When using vat dyes, the padded fabric must be treated after the heat treatment with an aqueous alkaline solution of a reducing agent commonly used in vat dyeing.
The dyeings obtained on polyester fibers according to the present process are expediently subjected to an aftertreatment, for example by heating with an aqueous solution of an ion-free detergent.
The present process is also suitable for dyeing blended fabrics made of polyester fibers and wool, with the wool portion remaining reserved and subsequently dyed with a wool dye.
Instead of by impregnation, the specified dyes can also be applied by printing according to the present process. For this purpose one uses e.g. a printing ink which, in addition to the auxiliaries customary in printing, such as wetting agents and thickeners, contains the finely dispersed dye, optionally mixed with one of the above-mentioned cotton dyes, optionally in the presence of urea and / or an acid-binding agent.
The present process gives strong dyeings and prints of excellent fastness properties, in particular good light, sublimation, decatur, washing and

<tb> also
<tb> <SEP> results in <SEP> good <SEP> gas fastness <SEP> through <SEP>. <SEP> Another <SEP> advantage is the good wool and cotton reserve of the dyes to be used according to the process.
Compared to comparable dyes of French patent specification 1,167,615, which have a cyclohexylmercapto group instead of a phenylmereapto, the dyes to be used according to the invention are distinguished by the fact that they give dyeings of better lightfastness with the same good drawability on polyethylene terephthalate fibers.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The parts by weight are related to the parts by volume as the gram is to the milliliter. <U> Example 1. </U>
0.5 part of 1-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone is ground with 0.5 part of 2,2'-dinaphthylmethanedisulfonic acid to give a fine dispersion. This is added to a dye bath which contains 3 parts of glacial acetic acid and 3 parts of N-benzyl-p-heptadecyl-benzimidazolesulfonic acid in 3000 parts of water, 100 parts of well-wetted acetate rayon are added at 400, the temperature is raised to 80o and the dyeing takes one hour at 800. The acetate silk is dyed pure yellow and the dyeing is characterized by good lightfastness.
If 1-phenylmercapto-4-benzylaminoanthraquinone is used as the dye, a bluish red dyeing with good fastness properties is obtained. <U> Example 2 </U> w :.
1 part of an aqueous paste of 1-phenylmercaptoanthraquinone is ground with approximately one part of dried sulphite cellulose waste liquor in a roller mill to form a fine dough with a dye content of approximately 10 @.
100 parts of polyethylene terephthalate fiber material are in a bath containing 1 to 2 parts of the sodium salt of N # benzyl-g-heptadecylbenzimidazole disulfonic acid and 7, part conc. contains aqueous ammonia solution, pre-cleaned for half an hour. The material is then placed in a dye bath of 3000 parts of water,
in which the dyestuff paste obtained according to paragraph 1 was dispersed with the addition of 4 parts of the sodium salt of N-benzyl-p-heptadecylbenzimidazole-disulfonic acid.
The whole thing is heated to 120o in a pressure vessel and kept at this temperature for about 1/2 hour. This is followed by a thorough rinse and, if necessary, with a solution containing 1 part of sodium salt to 1000 parts of water

100 parts of polyethylene terephthalate fiber material are in a bath containing 1 to 2 parts of the sodium salt of N-benzyl-p-heptadecylbenzimidazole disulfonic acid and 1 part of conc. contains aqueous ammonia solution, pre-cleaned for half an hour. The material is then placed in a dyebath containing 9 parts of diammonophosphate and 1,
5 parts of the sodium salt of N-benzyl-p-heptadecylbenzimidazole-disulfonic acid, treated for 15 minutes at 50o. Then gradually 9 parts of sodium o-phenylphenolate are dissolved, added and then the absorption of the liberated o-phenylphenol is caused by agitation of the textile material for 15 minutes at 50 to 55 °. Then the dyestuff paste obtained according to Example 2 .. Paragraph 1 is added.
Bring the bath to the boil within 1/2 to 3/4 hours and dye for 1 to 1 1/2 hours as close as possible to boiling temperature. It is then rinsed well and, if necessary, with a solution containing 1 part of the sodium salt of N-benzyl-M-heptadecylbenzimidazole-disulfonic acid per 1000 parts of water, washed for 1/2 hour at 60 to 80 °. A yellow dyeing of excellent sublimation and lightfastness is obtained.
