Methods of combating pests. In the Swiss patent no. 109704 a process for the production of cupric oxychloride directly from the components: metallic copper, cupric chloride solution and oxygen respectively. Air described. In addition to products are not created; the cuprioxychloride obtained corresponds to the formula i Cu0. CuCl = XH.0 and is free from foreign components.
Depending on the concentration of cupric chloride solution used, it represents a very fine precipitate or a very fine paste which is difficult to settle and which, after drying at low temperature (possibly in a vacuum), results in a fine, light green colored powder.
It has now been shown that the cuprioxy chloride produced in this way is outstandingly suitable for combating animal and vegetable pests, namely vine pests. The use of cuprioxychloride for this purpose is already known (see, for example, Swiss patent no. 67748, 1912).
The preparation used according to this patent specification is produced by reacting slaked lime with saturated cupric chloride solution and therefore consists of a mixture of cuprioxychloride and chloroalcium, possibly other additives.
Apart from the fact that the type of manufacture is not very economical because most of the valuable chlorine from the cuprichloride has to be converted into the worthless calcium chloride and the corresponding amount of lime has to be used, the calcium chloride content leads to considerable disadvantages. by being able to cause the plant organs to be burned. .
The present product, on the other hand, is free of foreign and soluble constituents and is very finely divided, so that the germicidal effect of copper can unfold to an excellent degree without damaging effects on the plant organs. Even with water alone, relatively stable suspensions can be produced that can be used as sprays.
It is advantageous, however, to increase the suspension capacity by adding the stabilizing additives or additives which act as a protective colloid, such as molasses. 1) (@ trin. Gum, the salts of libnine sulfo->; ittre to increase the salts of pitch sulfonic acids, rosin: cifen, etc.
You can use the -, - substances mentioned in aqueous solution; (Add lii-ekt to the aqueous suspension of cuprioxy chloride. You can, however, incorporate it by carefully mixing it into the paste of cuprioxychloride obtained directly during preparation. The paste obtained in this way trembles when diluted with water, which is a spray medium that is well-preserved .
By drying them at low temperature, a powder suitable for pest control is obtained, which both in solid form and also in an aqueous suspension siiiubiert or. can be splashed.
In the preparation of the powder, however, it is more expedient to proceed in such a way that the cuprioxide, which has been pre-dried at low temperature, is also added.
the appropriate amount of the suspending agent in question, for example with slightly thickened sulphite cellulose waste liquor, thoroughly mixed and (read the resulting moist powder subjected to a further subsequent drying at low temperature, possibly in a vacuum.
The powder produced in this way, when immersed in water, gives very fine and permanent suspensions. To increase the visibility and durability, packing of the known type, such as silicon chalk, kaolin, kieselguhr and other artificial substances can also be added.
