An- themis, Papaver, Digitalis. Delphinium, Quassia usw.
Methods of combating plant pests. The invention relates to the control of plant pests, in particular fruit tree pests, such as aphids, aphids, scale insects, caterpillars, spiders, mites, fungal diseases, etc., by introducing the control agent into the sap flow of the plants.
It has already been proposed that chemicals such as mercury, potassium cyanide, arsenic, iron vitriol and the like be incorporated into the plants to be protected, for example by vaccination. However, the substances proposed so far for this purpose have not proven their worth.
According to the present invention, the control of plant pests is carried out by using a solution of at least one substance originating from plants as the protective agent. As such, for example, juices or extracts of plants can be introduced into the sap stream of the plant to be protected, which can happen for example by inoculation or through the roots of the plant to be treated.
Instead of using the entire juices of the plants as a protective substance, one can, for example, also proceed in such a way that the particularly effective components are removed from the plants that are considered for the supply of protective substances or the juices or extracts obtained from them then apply these to pest control, either on their own, in combination with juices or extracts, for example to reinforce the latter protective substances. One uses preference as juices or Auszüöe of such plants or their fruits, which will not be attacked by the pests to be controlled.
For example, juices or extracts of the following plants have proven useful for carrying out the process: tomato, rhubarb, phyretrum, tobacco. Anthemsis, Papaver, Digitalis. Delphinium, Quassia, etc.
It is advantageous to proceed in such a way that soluble components of different plants are used in combination. For example, a juice or extract, which is specific to the control of a certain pest, can be combined with other juices or extracts or components of the same, which are specific agents for controlling other pests, and thus with the help of a single control agent achieve effects against pests of various kinds.
The soluble plant constituents to be used as protective substances according to the invention can also be used in combination with other substances. Examples of these are alum and other light or heavy metal salts, sulphides, tar products and other substances with a disinfectant effect. The properties of the vegetable juices or extracts can be modified, for example reinforced, by adding relatively small amounts of such additives. Also strong chemicals. which cannot be used on their own, can be introduced in combination with vegetable juices in small amounts into the sap stream of the plants to be treated without causing damage.
Finally, one can also add such soluble substances to the protective substances. which are normal components of plants, but are obtained in other ways.
The juices and extracts can be obtained from the plants in question by pressing, leaching and other means. Before use, they must be freed from undissolved components, for example by filtration. In contrast, a release of colloids is neither necessary nor desirable. The juices can be made durable with the help of suitable agents with a sterilizing effect, for example also by adding small amounts of chemicals, which may also be effective against pests at the same time. Otherwise, juices or extracts that have undergone a fermentation process have also proven to be effective.
In practicing the invention, one can, for example, learn that the plants to be treated, for example fruit trees. inoculating the protective agents through the bark or incorporating them through the roots.
In exercising the first-mentioned method, one proceeds, for example, in such a way that one goes, for example, to the lower end of the trunk of the trees to be treated. Appropriately in the direction of a tendon, a downward running: Drill a hole and insert the inoculant into this. For a guide you can advantageously use the instrument shown in the accompanying drawing, for example.
The same thing consists of a z -echmä ssi @; z @ Iindriseh; e - designed, possibly provided with graduation.
Vessel near its bottom is provided with a tubular or pointed attachment which is advantageously exchangeable for the introduction of the liquid vaccines into the glass borehole.
The outflow pipe is expediently tapered according to its point: # to koniseli a.us- (; e forms and inclined downwards according to the direction of the borehole the vaccinations to be carried out in the following years can be used in the same hole after removing the plug.
In the case of strong trunks, several inoculation points distributed around the trunk can be provided. When the means are incorporated through the root, one proceeds, for example, that one exposes individual root ends and the same. after they have been set up for the purpose of better absorption of the liquid, they are inserted into small vessels containing the liquid, which are well closed at their upper end after the root has been inserted,
so that leakage of the liquid is impossible.
The incorporation of the protective substances in fruit trees and the like is best done in spring when the sap increases. If pests that are located in the deeper parts of the plants, for example on the roots, such as for example phylloxera, are to be controlled by vaccination, this is expediently carried out at times when the sap of the plants is falling.
The menu of the necessary protective substances to be used depends on the type and size of the plants to be treated; For example, a 10% solution of nicotine extract is prepared, it is mixed with equal parts of a 10% solution of potassium alum and an amount of 16 cm 'is put into the holes of apple trees with a trunk circumference of 30 centimeters.
Or you can use the filtered and sterilized juice of Papaver somniferum with the addition of? 0% digitalis juice for inoculating roses in quantities corresponding to the trunk circumference of 1 to 3 cm.
The results achieved in practical application of the method are to a large extent surprising. The inventor has completely freed fruit trees of the most varied kinds by one-time treatment of pests such as aphids, blood lice, etc., as well as of fungal diseases. Successes have also been achieved in such cases in which the trees were treated unsuccessfully with known dusting, spraying and coating agents. The treated trees are not damaged, and in particular the taste of the fruit is not adversely affected.
In many cases it was observed that the treated trees not only bear particularly rich fruit compared to other trees, but also produce more beautiful fruits. Even with trees of other types, such as when combating forest pests, has. the procedure has proven itself.
