Dans ce but, on a employé jusqu'à main tenant des appareils réunissant le mécanisme d'avancement du fil qu'on doit fondre et le chalumeau proprement dit, et souvent aussi la ou les bobines renfermant le fil à fondre, formant un tout que l'ouvrier tient à la main et manie suivant sa convenance;
Apparatus for spraying and spraying metals. There are various processes usually called "metallization" in which, to cover an object, metallic or not, with a layer of determined metal, one or more metal wires are melted and the molten metal is projected by means of a jet. of air or of compressed gas which launches it on the surface which one wishes to cover. In some of these processes, the metal is melted electrically. by means of the electric arc, at least one of the electrodes of which is constituted by a wire of the metal which one wishes to melt.
In all these processes, it is difficult. to obtain an exact advance of the wire, especially in the cases where the torch or device which produces the fusion and the pulverization of the metal, must be handled by hand by the worker in order to throw the metal at the 'in the right he wants.
For this purpose, devices have been used up to now bringing together the mechanism for advancing the wire to be melted and the torch itself, and often also the spool (s) containing the wire to be melted, forming a whole that the worker holds in the hand and handles according to his convenience;
but, these are - the disadvantage of having to be î they have very small dimensions and weights, so that they can be maneuvered. . For this reason, the motor used to actuate the mechanism, for example an electric motor, or a compressed air turbine, must be of very low power and does not properly advance the wire.
The present invention should obviate these drawbacks.
In the apparatus according to the invention, the wire feed mechanism is arranged separately from the torch so that this -der denier can be moved independently from the first, the two wires coming from this advancement mechanism being brought each to the heater by a flexible tube conducting at the same time the current which supplies the arc.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the apparatus, comprising spools of wire, the advancement mechanism which gives movement to the wire, the torch and the flexible tubes which lead the wires to the torch; Fig. 2 shows a detailed side view, on a larger scale, of the engine and the advancement mechanism; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the mechanism of FIG. 2, and FIG. 4 shows, on a larger scale, the details of the torch.
Fig. 1 shows the whole of the apparatus mounted on a column or support 1. This column carries, suitably fixed, a shelf 2 supporting an electric motor 3 and the wire advancement mechanism, designated as a whole in this figure , by the number 4. The same column 1 carries a support 6 which supports the coils 7 on which are wound the wires 5 which constitute the electrodes of the arc. These threads 5 pushed by the advancement mechanism 4 pass through the interior of the flexible tubes, designated as a whole in this figure by the number 8 and arrive at the torch designated as a whole by the number 9.
This torch is provided with a handle 11 for handling it and receives, via the flexible tube 10, the air or the compressed gas necessary for spraying the metal. In addition, the torch remains free to be handled with ease by the worker since it is only connected by the flexible tube 10 to the compressed air pipe and by the two flexible tubes, 8, to the advancement mechanism. 4.
Figs. 2 to 4 show in more detail the construction of the mechanism.
The electric motor 3 carries, fixed by means of screws 13 the frame of the advancement mechanism 4. This frame is constituted by two plates 14 joined together by a central tube 15 serving as a bearing for the axis 18 of the mechanism d. 'advancement fixed by its lower part to the electric motor 3. The side plates 14 have, at their front part, tabs 16 where a transverse fiber strip 17 is fixed, and at their rear part, they form the tabs 19 where one fixes the insulating strips 20 provided with the connectors 21 to guide the wire 5.
In addition, at the top, these plates 14 form other tabs 22 provided with adjusting screws 23 to serve as a support for the springs 24, the role of which will be explained later, and thus to adjust the pressure of these. springs.
By means of any speed reduction mechanism, the electric motor 3 actuates a toothed wheel 28 which, by means of the chain 29 transmits the movement to the toothed wheel 30 fixed on the axis 18 of the advancement mechanism. This axis 1.8, the central tube 15 of the frame serving as a pad, rotates and carries at each of its ends a piece of fiber 31, which carries an applied crown 32 of steel, the outer surface of which is scratched so that the wire is well understood. A roller 33 is strongly supported on the crown 32 and the wire 5 which passes between the two, is thus forced to move forward by the movement of the axis 18.
Each of the rollers 33 can rotate about an axis 34 on a fork 35 which in turn is articulated by means of the pin 36 on the ears of the part 37 fixed to the corresponding end of the insulating strip 17. The fork 35 carries a fixed spring 24, the end of which is insulated by means of a fiber plate 25 and is subjected to the pressure of the adjusting screw 23 to thereby adjust the action of the spring. This spring 24 is the one which forces the roller 33 to apply strongly against the crown 32 of the axis 18.
Each of the parts 37 carries threaded rods 38 provided with wing nuts 39 by means of which is fixed to the part 37 a metal part 40 carrying a connector 41 which receives the wire 5 after its passage between the rollers 32, 33. This fitting 41 is extended to the other side of the. part 40 forming a tube 42 to which is joined the flexible tube 8 constituted by a spiral of wire 43 inside which passes the wire 5, suitably surrounded by a tube or an insulating envelope 44.
In this way, the wire 5 remains guided exactly by the fittings 21 -41 and is forced to pass between the rollers 32, 33 which communicate the forward movement to it and immediately after having passed through aëà tàccords and having received the movement. advancement, the wire enters the connector 41, which is extended to form the flexible tube 43 and leads the wire to the torch 9.
The metal part 37 also carries the terminal 47 intended to receive the conductor 48 and take the current.
As can be seen from the above description, all the parts in contact with each of the two wires are completely electrically insulated so as to avoid any possibility. that short circuits form. Although they are mounted on the common support 6, the two coils 7 are similarly insulated from each other.
As can be seen from the details of FIG. 4, the torch 9 comprises a tube 49 which ends in a fitting 50 serving for the outlet of the compressed air; this tube is provided with a handle 11, and: at its lower end it receives the pipe 10 for the inlet of compressed air or gas.
At its upper end, the tube 49 carries, fixed, a piece 51 of fiber, which in turn carries the two pipes 52 which join the flexible tubes 43, 44. These tubes 52 are suitably curved to lead the two wires. up to the rac cord 50 and end with the small nozzles 53.
The fitting 50 is an ordinary torch fitting, the fittings 53 are also ordinary fittings, it is not necessary that they have a special arrangement. It is simply convenient to make in these connectors 53 a notch or notch, as shown at 54 on the face corresponding to the central connector 50 in order to allow the wire to exit more freely.
In fig. 1, there is shown, as an example, a common support 1 carrying the motor and the advancement mechanism as well as the wire spools, but it is also possible to have the wire spools quite separately and to mount them on another support that whoever carries the motor and the advance mechanism lies. When large parts have to be metallized and you want to give the worker more freedom to move at will, the motor and the advancement mechanism can be frozen to the belt or to another part of the body. the worker and leave the coils 7 on a suitable solid support.
In this case, it is only essential to properly insulate the part of the wire 5 comprised between the advancement mechanism and the coils in order to avoid any contact.
