Process for the production of a rail joint connector for electrical railways. The invention relates to a process for producing a rail joint connector for electrical railways, which consists of a guide member provided at the ends with contact pieces, which contact pieces are pressed together over part of their length and are thereby connected to the guide member.
According to the invention, the contact pieces are designed prior to pressing in such a way that during the flat pressing there is no substantial widening of the cross section of the guide member perpendicular to the pressing direction, but a corresponding compression of the material.
The wall thickness of the contact piece can, in particular, be kept very large in its width direction, without too much pressure being necessary to establish the connection. These large dimensions allow the iron contact piece pressed onto the copper cable to be designed with an enlarged cross-section corresponding to the lower conductivity of the iron, and to be used directly as a weld-on block to connect to the rail.
As a result, the present method enables a particularly reliable connection Ver, both between the guide member and the contact piece, and between the last rem and the rail. At the same time, it's easy and cheap.
In the drawing, a rail butt connector produced according to the present method is shown, for example, and specifically shows: FIG. 1 an elevation, FIG. 2 a floor plan, and FIG. 3 a section along the line X -X in Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a diagram of a contact piece before pressing.
The contact pieces 2 are connected to the ends of the electrical conducting element 1 formed from a metal wire rope. The latter are advantageously made of wrought iron so that they can be autogenously or electrically welded to the rails on both sides of the joint. Before pressing, the contact pieces 2, as can be seen from FIG. T, have the shape of a nut which is finitely provided with two opposing, wide longitudinal ribs.
To establish the connection, this contact piece is pushed onto the end of the metal wire rope and then subjected to a pressure perpendicular to the rib plane on the larger and outer part of its length, by which the outwardly curved wall parts of the sleeve are pressed into the rib plane. and accordingly the end of the rope is pressed flat, while the strong longitudinal ribs of the contact piece prevent lateral deflection, that is, a widening of the rope cross-section in the contact piece.
This results in a very considerable material compression, which causes a highly conductive and permanent, also mechanically very resistant connection between the rope and the contact piece.
In the vicinity of the entry point of the cable into the contact piece, the latter is not pressed together, so that here, as can be seen from FIGS. 1 to 3, the curved wall parts remain as edge beads 3, and a cross-sectional reduction of the cable continues for as long it still has to carry the full current strength, does not occur.
In order to exclude any sideways evasion of the material when pressing the contact piece flat, the contact piece can be placed in a Ge memory during the pressing process, if necessary; however, this is not necessary when using sufficiently strong contact pieces.
Since the pressing pressure is exerted mainly on the weaker arched wall parts and the rope end when the contact piece is formed, a relatively thick iron block can be used as the contact piece, which can be pressed directly onto the copper rope without an excessively large one Pre-printing is required.
A metal rod can also be used as the guide element.
