Turbine.
Turbine. The present invention relates to a turbine provided with a rotor of the type of those having a duct for the working fluid. This turbine is characterized in that the rotor comprises a central core with two flanges between which at least one tape is wound along a cylindrical surface whose generatrix is a spiral located in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the rotor, this tape limiting between its turns and the flanges the aforementioned conduit.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through one half of the rotor of the first embodiment, and fig. 3 is a cross section taken through line 3-3 of FIG. 1; fig. 5 is another cross section of the same embodiment; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through a half of the rotor of the second execution faith-me and FIG. 4 is a section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2; Fig. 6 is an enlarged section of a detail; Fig. 7 is a section of an alternative detail.
In fig. 1 is shown a drum 5 equipped with end flanges 6 and 7 and an intermediate flange 8 and having the peripheral part hollowed out so as to form a channel 9 extending between the flanges 6 and 7 and through the intermediate flange 8 , the latter being perforated, for this purpose, as indicated in 10.
The interior sides of the end flanges and the two sides of the intermediate flange are stepped to form a series of bearing surfaces 11 separated by counter steps 12 whose height is graduated so as to increase from the periphery of the drum. at the outer perimeter of the flanges. These bearing surfaces 11 are used, as shown, to support and separate the various turns of the tape 13. The latter is wound around the core of the rotor so as to form a cylindrical surface, the generator of which is a spiral situated in a perpendicular plane. to the rotor axis; it thus limits conduits which gradually widen.
The inner ends of these tapes are fixed to the periphery of the drum and spaced from the radial wall 1.4 of the channel 9 so that said channel forms a chamber. inlet which is closed on the outside by the turns of the tape 13 and at the ends by the flanges 6 and 7. The flange 6 has an opening for the connection of an inlet pipe 15 through which the working fluid arrives in the channel 9 to pass outside through the conduit 16 formed between the windings of the tape. The tape is strongly corrugated or grooved transversely, on both sides, so as to form a series of baffles 17 along the walls of the conduits 16, which will increase the frictional resistance offered to the flow of the working fluid.
As shown in fig. 6, the edges of the tape 13 on the bearing surfaces 11 are secured thereto by means of a snap-fit assembly 18, a gasket 19 being interposed between the tape and the bearing surfaces to prevent leakage. In addition to this recess assembly, the tape is still unsupported on the bearing surfaces by means of screws 20.
During the operation of the turbine, the fluid passes through the pipe 15 or through the pipe 33 and the orifices 34 in the inner chamber of the channel 9 and from the latter through the conduits 16 to the chamber: annular 24-, and to the pipe exhaust 26 (fig. 5); it will be noted that the duct 16 gradually increases its radial height from the inner end to the outer end as a result of the gradual increase in the risers 12 mentioned above.
In the embodiment shown in fig. 2 and 4, the bearing surfaces 11 are omitted and the tape is of uniform width, the space required between the turns of the tape to form the duct 16 being obtained by providing the tape with raised or thickened edges. The duct 16 is closed on the sides by welding or otherwise by masticating the turns of the tape together at the thickened part of the edges 28. The tape is attached to the drum by providing the inner sides with flanges 6 and 7 and both. sides of the intermediate flange 8 of ribs 29 disposed radially and fitting into radial grooves 30 formed in the edge of the tape.
By suitably graduating the raised edges 28, the duct 16 formed between the turns of the tape gradually increases in radial height from the inner end to the outer end as shown in FIG. 4.
The chamber 24 (fig. 5) formed between the rotor and the casing 31 can be subjected to a pressure or a suction obtained mechanically and the working fluid withdrawn or admitted by the way of the pipe 15 or 33 described above, to which case the natural wind pressure coming from a chimney cap through a pipe can be used.
It is also evident that in the construction shown in fig. 1, the pipe 15 can be employed as an intake or exhaust pipe, depending on whether the working fluid flows towards or away from the drum 5 and said circulation can be effected in any desired manner by pressure or by suction.
The tape 13 is preferably formed in one piece but, if desired, can be made up of several sections joined together by a snap-fit assembly, as shown in FIG. 7, with suitable gaskets being placed between the contacting ends of the sections as shown at 32.
