Device for projecting views. The object of the present invention is a view projection apparatus. This apparatus comprises two projection devices, one intended to project a main moving view or image and the other serving to project a marginal secondary image or view around said main view, in combination with means for directing the image. light alternately through said projection devices so that the marginal secondary view is projected onto the screen during the periods when the main moving view is in the dark and vice versa. Experience has shown that it is possible to obtain, with such a device, total projections giving a pronounced plastic effect while avoiding tiring the eye of the spectator.
In addition, a large variation in the illumination intensity of the screen can be avoided, which is also very advantageous.
Preferably, the apparatus comprises only one light source to supply the two projection devices, this light source being combined with the device intended to project the main moving view and means being provided to intercept the light beam of this device at rest periods of the animated view and then direct it through the device used to project the marginal secondary view.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example and schematically, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, serving for the projection of animated views in the central part of the screen and of a view. or still image around the main moving view; Fig. 1 is a schematic plan .; Fig. 2 is an elevation seen from the rear. The apparatus shown comprises a pair of projection devices, 1 and 2, placed very close to each other on a base 3; the axes of the optical systems of these two projection devices are arranged so as to meet at a central point on the screen 4.
The device is intended to project a main moving view on the screen 4 by means of an image film which is moved with the aid of a crank. The device 2 is used for the projection of a fixed marginal secondary view, forming a border around the moving view which is projected in the central part of the screen.
The position of the projection device 2 is adjustable to allow it to accommodate any slight variations in distance between the device and the screen and it is rotatable around a pivot 5 (fig. 2), located in the middle between the axes of the optical systems of the two projection devices.
The light source 6 is located in line with the lenses 7 of the main projection device 1, the light beam passing through these lenses to properly project the rays through said device.
A rotating shutter 8 is provided between the main projection device 1, and the light source. It takes the form of a large disc mounted on a shaft supported in a bearing 9, the shutter being arranged at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the axis of the light beam and one of its sides intersecting this beam. In the shutter are formed openings 10 which are three in number and between which there are solid parts 11. The shutter is mechanically connected, by a gear 12, to the control mechanism of the projection device 1 and it rotates. in unison with the mechanism of the latter, so that the solid parts 11 intercept the light beam, this beam passing through the openings 10 at the desired moment, when the rope is stationary.
The solid parts II are provided with reflecting surfaces and, therefore, when a solid part is in line with the light beam, the intercepted beam will be reflected in a transverse direction. A reflecting surface 13 is placed in a suitable position to receive the reflected transverse beam and reflect it and direct it through the secondary projection device 2.
The result of this arrangement of means for intercepting the light beam and directing it through the secondary projection device is that the light which otherwise is not used to produce an image is used in the secondary device to project its image into them. periods alternating with those of the main projection device, so that the marginal secondary view is time correlated with the main moving view. The image used in the secondary projection device is such that it creates a more sensitive impression of relief of the total image.
The secondary image forming a border could also represent animated scenes. This secondary projection also has the effect of maintaining a practically constant illumination effect on the screen, that is to say that light will always be transmitted to the screen by one of the projection devices or by the other.
In the diagram, the main view is shown, on screen 4, as extending between points 1-1, while the secondary image is a border image which extends from 1 to 2 and its width. can be variable.
One may find it beneficial to use moving film to produce the secondary image; but the illuminated surface can be obtained outside the main view by a fixed projection or any suitable arrangement of transparency.
Thanks to the apparatus shown, the light which would otherwise be lost becomes, without any expense other than the slight increase in the price of the apparatus, a valuable addition to the lighting system of the auditorium.
