1., also nachdem der Kolben an jener Absperrstelle vorbeiging, in Schliess lage bewegt worden.
Method for operating rotary internal combustion engines. The previously known rotary internal combustion engines with a ring path temporarily divided by slides have two or more pistons rotating in the ring path.
The fuel charge Ird sucked in by the individual piston is displaced by the subsequent piston, in order to then be passed behind this second piston for the purpose of ignition, either through a bypass channel or through a passage in the piston controlled by a valve.
According to the present invention, it is intended to reduce the relatively large power losses present in a machine of the training and mode of operation mentioned, by going over to an operating method that allows the machine to circle the piston only one way. Let the machine work with only one piston while achieving a relatively high degree of efficiency by fully utilizing the driving force developed by the fuel charge. This process is characterized by
that the fuel charge from circling the piston is sucked in during approximately one circular movement, then held back by closing a slide behind the piston and is compressed by the piston during approximately a second rotational movement of the piston, and then in a manner known per se behind The chamber connected to the piston in the ring path is transferred and ignited there.
This method is to be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows an embodiment of a rotary combustion engine working according to the same.
Fig. 1 shows' the machine in front view; Fig. 2 is a cross-section taken along A-B of Fig. 1; Fig. Ä shows a cut in the plane of the housing; 4 illustrates a corresponding section through the piston, on a larger scale; Fig. 5 shows a change in a detail.
It denotes 1 the rotor, \? The housing enclosing the same, 3 the enclosed annular space formed by the housing and the rotor, and 4 the piston provided on the circumference of the rotor, which runs through the annular space. The piston 4 is adapted to the cross section of the annular space 3 and has band-like sealing elements 5 on the outside, the ends of which are located in corresponding cutouts of the lateral sealing rings 6 of the rotor. The rings 6 are under the influence of compression springs 7 incorporated into the rotor. The annular space 3 is temporarily divided into chambers by the two slides 8, 9 at certain times.
The slides 8, 9 have on their side corresponding to the circumferential surface of the rotor 1 a sealing element 10 loaded by a leaf spring. Both slides are movable transversely to the housing 2 on the same side and have a toothed guide rod 11. in tvelehe a dental arch 12 engages, which is mounted on an axis 13. r1 .n the toothed arch 12 associated with the slide 8 is engaged by a link 14 which is connected to a two-armed control lever 15.
This sits on an axle 16 and rests on its second arm by means of a roller 15 '. a lifting disk 17 which is fastened on a shaft 18. The toothed arch 12 belonging to the slide 9 is connected by a link 19 with a two-armed control lever 20, which is also mounted on the axis 16 and by means of a roller 20 'rests on a hub disk 21 which is fixed on the shaft 18. On the shaft 18 three more lifting disks 22, 23, 24 are attached, on each of which a two-armed control lever 25 respectively. 26, 27 is applied by means of a roller.
The control lever 25 is through a handlebar 28 (Fig. 1) with a lever 29 in connec tion to which a valve is connected, which is provided on the housing 2 inlet opening 30 (Fig. 1 and 3) for the A occurs Fuel in the annular space 3 dominates. The control lever 26 is connected by a link 31 to a lever 32 which adjusts a valve which controls an air inlet opening 33 present on the housing 2.
The control lever 27 in turn is connected by a handlebar 34 (Fig. 1) to a lever 35 which controls a valve -which an exhaust port 36 provided in the housing 2 dominates.
All control levers are held pressed against the lifting disks by tension springs (not shown).
The shaft 18 is driven from the shaft 37 of the rotor by a pair of gears 18 ', which in the given example represents a ratio of 1: 3. From the rotor shaft 37, a chain drive 38 is used to drive a magneto-electric ignition device 39, to which a spark plug 40 is connected, which is arranged on the housing and whose poles are located in a hammer opening into the annular space 3.
The piston 4 of the grate is provided with a through channel 41, which is usually softer according to FIG. 4. a valve 42 built into the piston is shut off by holding it pressed against its seat by a compression spring 43.
The operation of the motor machine explained is as follows: It is assumed that the slide 8 is controlled by its control elements 14, 15 from the cam disk 17 directly behind the piston 4 of the rotor rotating to the left according to FIG. 3:
1., so after the piston passed that shut-off point, moved into the closed position. The valve controlling the inlet openings 30 is temporarily opened by its control mechanism 9, 28, 25, 23, and the fuel mixture flows through the opening 30 from a carburetor 44 into one end of the slide 8 and the other end of the piston 4 be limited chamber of the annular space 3, wel che chamber increases according to the path of the rotating piston 4.
The fuel mixture, which has flowed into said chamber in a certain amount, is sucked in by the piston 4 during approximately one circulation movement. The second slide, designated 9, is initially still closed and the valve of the exhaust port 36 opens, so that residues pushed by the piston 4 from the pre-existing combustion are driven out of the annular space 3 through this opening. When the piston 4 has come close to the slide 9, it is de its control device 19, 20, 21 from the path:
Piston moved out, d. H. opened and the valve of the exhaust opening 36 closed by its control device 35, 34, 27, 22. The slide 8 then opens again, but immediately returns to the closed position when the piston has moved past it. As a result, the greater part of the fuel mixture that has entered the annular space is retained behind the slide 8. The inlet opening 30 for the fuel mixture has meanwhile been closed.
On the other hand, behind the piston 4, the valve of the opening 33 is now opened by its Steuervorrich device 32, 31, 26, 24, so that air behind the piston 4 flows into the chamber delimited at one end and there by the formation of a vacuum behind the. Piston is bent forward. Corresponding to the progressive approach of the piston to the slide 8 there is now a more and more increasing compression of the fuel charge now located in front of the piston. If the piston 4 has moved past the open slide via 9, the latter is automatically closed, whereupon a chamber closed off by the slide 8, 9 is formed in the annular space 3.
In this chamber, the fuel charge brought to a corresponding pressure level acts by overcoming the spring 43 to open the valve 42 of the piston 4 and step from the front to the back of the latter, whereupon the valve 42 closes again by itself. The slide 8 is withdrawn and the fuel charge that has come behind the piston 4 is ignited as a result of sparking at the spark plug 40, the rotor being given the driving force by the expansion of the combustion gases. The exhaust port 36 has now been released like that.
The slide 9 is temporarily opened to let the piston 4 pass by, as does the slide over 8, after its closure, the valve opening 30 for the fuel dominating valve is recently opened and so with again through the piston 4 fuel in the Annular space 3 is sucked in. The explained work is now repeated.
According to Fig. 5, the passage 41 of the piston 4 is not valve of a spring, but of a slide 45 BE prevails, which is inevitably switched on and off by the rotor shaft.
