Description

  

  Verfahren zum Verdichten von Holz.    Es sind Verfahren bekannt, um Holz  durch starken Druck, zum Beispiel auch un  ter Erwärmung, zu verdichten. Diese Ver  fahren ergeben teilweise Hölzer, die sich  durch hohes spezifisches Gewicht, grosse  Härte und     gut-,    Polierfähigkeit     auszeichnen.     Die so erhaltenen Hölzer sind aber alle  nicht widerstandsfähig gegen längere Be  einflussung durch Wasser; sie quellen mehr  oder minder wieder auf. Ganz besonders tritt  dieser Übelstand bei harzarmen Hölzern auf.  Man hat versucht. diesen Übelstand durch  Einführung von Harzlösungen oder ähnlich  wirkenden Substanzen vor dem     Pressen    zu  beseitigen.

   Zu einem wirklichen Erfolg ist  man aber nie gekommen, weil die Ein  führung zähflüssiger Stoffe in das Holz  zu schwierig ist und ausserdem derartige  Imprägnierungen die Homogenität des Hol  zes stören.  



  Es wurde nun gefunden, dass man den  gleichen Erfolg erzielt, Renn das Holz vor  oder während der Pressung mit einem       zelluloselösenden    Stoffe getränkt wird, wel  cher in dem Holze selbst durch teilweise  Lösung der Zellwände eine verklebende Im  prägnierung des Holzes entstehen lässt. Die    verklebende Masse     verhärtet    nachher voll  kommen wasserunlöslich und hat ihr     Q,uel-          lungsvermögen    verloren.  



  Beispielsweise kann man das Holz unter  Druck mit     Kupferoxyd-Ammonialt    durch  tränken und starkem Drucke aussetzen; da  durch werden die Zellwände vollkommen mit  einander verklebt, und es entsteht eine horn  artige, homogene Masse.



  Process for compacting wood. Processes are known for compacting wood by means of strong pressure, for example also under heating. These methods sometimes result in woods that are characterized by high specific weight, great hardness and good polishing ability. However, the woods obtained in this way are all not resistant to prolonged exposure to water; they swell up more or less again. This drawback occurs particularly in woods that are poor in resin. One tried. to eliminate this problem by introducing resin solutions or substances with a similar effect before pressing.

   But one has never achieved any real success because the introduction of viscous substances into the wood is too difficult and, moreover, such impregnations disturb the homogeneity of the wood.



  It has now been found that the same success can be achieved by soaking the wood before or during pressing with a cellulose-dissolving substance, which creates an adhesive impregnation of the wood in the wood itself by partially dissolving the cell walls. The adhesive mass then hardens, becomes completely insoluble in water and has lost its ability to cool.



  For example, the wood can be soaked under pressure with copper oxide ammonia and exposed to strong pressure; as a result, the cell walls are completely glued together, and a horn-like, homogeneous mass is created.

PATENT CLAIM: A method for compacting wood, characterized in that the wood is impregnated with a cellulose-dissolving substance, which creates an adhesive impregnation of the wood in the wood itself by partially dissolving the cell walls. SUBClaim: Method according to claim, characterized in that during or after the impregnation the wood is subjected to a pressure which acts perpendicular to the grain direction, in the grain direction or in several directions simultaneously.
