Valve for inner tube. The object of this invention is a valve for an inner tube, consisting of a body (the outer valve provided inside with a metal seat, and an inner mechanism s' ap puyant on this seat and being provided with a longitudinal channel for the passage of air.
According to the invention, the internal mechanism is made of a single piece screwing into a housing of the external body; the communication between the longitudinal channel and the atmosphere is interrupted by the internal mechanism screwed into the external body, while the lower end of said mechanism is opened by an elastic sleeve held in position by two shoulders of the body interior.
In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the valve is shown, by way of example. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the. complete valve; Fi-. 2 is a view of the internal mechanism itself; Fig. 3 is a cross section taken along line A-B in FIG. 1.
The outer valve body a has a base b and at its top a tapered extension c. The exterior of the body a is threaded, as well as the extension c. The interior of the body has been hollowed out. The upper part of this recess is threaded at d and is provided with a metal seat e.
The internal mechanism proper, represented by FIG. 2, consists of a body x in one piece. This body x is threaded over part of its length f, and screwed into a housing of the body a; in addition it is provided with a conical shoulder g, then with a narrowed part la and with an extension i.
This extension is limited to its upper part by a. shoulder 3 and at its lower part by a shoulder le. The extension i is slightly conical in its lower part towards the shoulder k which has the shape of a mushroom.
The internal mechanism x (fig. 1 and 2) is drilled up to about three-quarters of its length and provided at the lower part of this hole with several side openings Z m n o to allow the passage of air. Two flats p q are milled on the upper part of the internal mechanism (fig. 2 and 3).
The upper part of the internal mechanism x (fig. 1) is provided with a recess r limited by flat faces and allowing the: = - troduction of a c1'6 to turn the internal body. A rubber sleeve is introduced on the extension i and held 'in its position by the two jet shoulders 1c.
The valve has a cap t screwed onto the extension c of the valve body n. This stopper is provided on the inside. Of an elastic seal surrounded by a metal cup u rotating freely inside the stopper 1. The latter is extended by a nose v whose section and faces correspond to the 'recess r of the mechanism, so that after the: wise unscrewing of the cap .this nose can be used as a key to turn the body x.
The operation of the valve is as follows: The internal mechanism x (fig. 2) fitted with its rubber sleeve is inserted and screwed into its housing in the body a by means of the extension of the nose v of the plug. so as to apply the conical shoulder g on the seat c of the mechanism x. This arrangement ensures the seal between the air chamber and the lower recess of the body a. During inflation, the air introduced by the pump enters through said recess -in the channel z.
The air pressure slightly pushes the elastic sleeve s apart, and the air enters through the openings l în n o into the air chamber.
After swelling, the inner pressure of the. air chamber acts on the elastic sleeve and applies it to its seat i so as to ensure complete sealing during and after inflation.
Partial or total deflation is effected by unscrewing the internal mechanism x one or two turns using the plug t. The passage of a sufficient quantity of air is ensured by the narrowed part lt and the countersinks p, and (j.
The constricted portion lt has also been combined to prevent, during deflation, the rubber sleeve leaving its seat. For the same reason, the extension i is provided with a slight taper at. its lower part.
The valve described has over known systems the advantage of greater simplicity of the valve mechanism; it is easier to manufacture and makes it possible to introduce and secure this mechanism into the valve body without any accessory part.
The rubber sleeve closure system has the advantage of other systems currently used (shells, valves and others) of offering very low resistance during inflation and of ensuring absolutely perfect sealing.
