Machine for pulling weeds on railway tracks. The object of the present invention is a machine for removing weeds from railway tracks. It is of the type well known to those which include knives which are introduced and taken out of the ballast, between and next to the sleepers, by means of a servomotor controlled by members set in motion by parts of the superstructure; a similar machine is described, for example, in Swiss Patent No. 75218.
The present machine is characterized in that the stroke of the knives is adjusted by means of stops of different heights arranged around a member in relation to the servomotor, driven by a reciprocating longitudinal movement and carrying a cleat cooperating with said stops. Preferably, the latter will all be taken in the same hollow cylinder arranged coaxially with the organ carrying the stopper, the latter being displaced and brought along the path of one or the other of the stops. The actuation of this ta quet can be done -in different ways.
It will be placed, preferably, under the control of a hand lever moved by one of the servants of the. machine by providing, in addition, an automatic device to deal with any possible deterioration of the machine. This positive response will be under the control of all the parts of the superstructure exceeding the latter by a certain height, so that, in level crossings, for example, the adjustment of the stroke of the knives can be done automatically.
It is shown in the attached drawing, and this, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
The knives are designated by 15; they rotate around the axis 151 and are introduced into the ballast by an elbow lever 150 , one of the arms of which is articulated to the connecting rod 153 of the "piston of a steam servomotor and, the other, to a rod 152 which connects it to the knife. The connecting rod 153 is extended towards the rear of the machine by a rod 154 animated by a reciprocating longitudinal movement and which slides in the bearings 155 mounted on the platform of the chassis. On this rod 154, is introduced a coil spring 156 which rests, on the one hand, against a loose ring 157 on the rod and, on the other hand, against a buffer. shock 158.
The rod carries stops of different heights joined together in a hollow cylinder 159 arranged coaxially with said idle rod on the latter and the development of which is shown in FIG. 2, and an end view in FIG. 3.
A cleat 170 is arranged to cooperate with the stops and fixed on the. rod 154. It comprises two diametrically opposed extensions, of the same width as the stages of the stops and which, depending on the angular position of the latter around the rod 145, meet them either one or the other. The hollow cylinder 159 can slide without rotating on the rod 154 when the spring 156 is pressed.
The hollow cylinder 159 is connected to a hand lever 180 by means of which it can be given certain positions and this by means of rods 181, 182 and .d'un the bent vier 183 pivoted in the mass. At a point 160 of this system of rods and levers, is adapted a tie rod 161 connected to an arm 163 carrying a roller 162. To put the cylinder in place according to. greediness of the. stroke that we want to make with the knives, we handle the lever 180 according to the arrows in fig. 1 thus limiting the stroke of the piston in the cylinder of the booster, this, without seeing the slide of the end of the tie rod 161, the position of the roller 162 is influenced.
However, when an obstacle occurs which exceeds the superstructure of an inadmissible amount for the correct operation of the machine, the roller 162 turns counterclockwise and acts on the levers according to the height of the obstacle to interpose on the travel of the cleat 170 one of the stops of the cylinder 159. In this way, it is possible to avoid the eventualities of -deterioration of the machine resulting from the inatten tion of the servant.
