Abstract
A conventional planter used for growing plants and herbs is usually a container having sidewalls and a bottom. Transplantable plants are normally grown or transplanted inside the planter. Compared to any conventional planter, my invention is a unique and artistic planter, hereinafter referred to as the "TREE SHAPED PLANTER" made of light weight concrete or a similar settable material which is a hollow thin walled artificial tree shaped upright garden planter with the appearance of a tree trunk with its outer surface resembling a tree bark. Its entire length is hollow and has several holes on all of its side walls at regular intervals. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER is an up to 7 feet tall free standing planter and is fitted on the garden ground to resemble a dead tree trunk or a tree stump. Alternatively the TREE SHAPED PLANTER is fitted to the patio, deck or fencing poles or even placed in balconies. The hollow in the planter is filled with potting soil used to grow plants, and herbs. Flowering plants, vegetables and herbs are planted in the planting medium in the hollow of the TREE SHAPED PLANTER by inserting them through the holes provided on the side walls of the TREE SHAPED PLANTER. The plants growing through the sides of this TREE SHAPED PLANTER are irrigated by a soaker or drip tube encased in the center hollow of the TREE SHAPED PLANTER
fed from a garden hose pipe or fitted to the garden sprinkler system or timer. Any excess water will drain out through a drain hole provided at the bottom of the planter.

Claims (16)
Claims:
1. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER is a cylindrical thin walled hollow artificial tree shaped vertical planter for growing vegetation in its middle hollow cavity accessed through the holes called grow ports provided on its side walls or circumference.
2. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER is made out of re-enforced light weight concrete, cement mortar or any such settable material. It may also be cast, molded, blow molded or extruded out of any other material or materials like rubber, plastic, fiber, porcelain, clay, foam or metal or maybe also carved out of natural materials like wood to resemble a tree or bamboo.
3. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER comprises of a thin wall, the outside of which is shaped to resemble the bark of a natural tree and is painted or stained to give the desired colors.
4. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER has varied lengths up to 7 feet and varied diameter (girth), and is provided with multiple staggered grow ports or holes of around 3 inches diameter all around its circumference providing access to the potting mix, dirt, earth or any growing medium that is filled in its middle hollow. The inside hollow of the planter covers the entire length of the planter from its foundation to the topmost tip.
5. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER is erected or fitted on the ground or lawn in a free standing style. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER can also be installed on fencing poles, deck poles, patios and balconies.
6. Plant seedlings, flowering plants, vegetables, herbs are plugged into the planting medium filled into the middle hollow of the TREE SHAPED
PLANTER through the grow ports or holes provided on the outside circumference of the planter.
PLANTER through the grow ports or holes provided on the outside circumference of the planter.
7. The plants so placed in the TREE SHAPED PLANTER through the holes in the sides of the planter develop their root system by deriving the required nutrition and water from the planting medium filled into the centre hollow cavity of the planter and the stems and branches of the plants grow out of the planter's side holes. The stems and branches either hang down or grow upright depending on the type of plant that is grown, to give a very beautiful appearance and appearing as if the plants are growing out of a natural tree trunk.
8. The planter is beneficial to the gardener or farmer in many more ways than any other conventional garden planter as it affords its user an intensive gardening option where ten times more plants can be grown in a smaller area as compared to conventional planters or flower beds.
9. The potting mix or dirt filled in the TREE SHAPED PLANTER is almost entirely covered. Hence there is almost no chance of any weeds growing on it.
10. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER can be installed where no flower or plant beds can be made since it can be installed on concreted, tarred, cemented, tiled areas where garden beds are not possible.
11. Fruits, vegetables and flowers grown on the TREE SHAPED PLANTER
are safe from destruction by animals and pests as they are well above ground level as compared to garden beds on the ground.
are safe from destruction by animals and pests as they are well above ground level as compared to garden beds on the ground.
12.The planter is provided with its own irrigation system which can be connected to the lawn sprinkler system or timer thereby having a fully automatic irrigation system. Alternatively the TREE SHAPED PLANTER
can be irrigated by connecting it to the garden hose or by manually pouring water into it from the top opening or by affixing a container of water to the top to drip into the planting medium. The excess water in the TREE SHAPED PLANTER will drain out of the drain hole provided at the bottom of the planter.

The excess water in the TREE SHAPED PLANTER will drain out of the drain hole provided at the bottom of the planter.
13.The plants grown on the TREE SHAPED PLANTER are provided with fertilizer by manually pouring water mixed with the desired fertilizer into the planter from the opening at the top or by fitting a container filled with water and fertilizer to the top cap to drip into the planting medium.
14. The planter is made out of materials which are man made and long lasting requiring very little or no maintenance effort or cost due to the type of construction material used in its making.
15.The TREE SHAPED PLANTER is weatherproof. In winter the planter does not need to be removed and stored indoors for its protection. It can be left standing in the garden to look like a snow covered tree stump in the garden.
16. In the subsequent planting season, the plants and their roots which will have died in the severe winter climate will have to be pulled out from the TREE SHAPED
PLANTER and the potting mix, soil replaced by scooping it out through the side grow ports or holes. The TREE SHAPED PLANTER can be recycled for many years.
