Abstract

This is a new way of utilizing an old product. Mainly Plywood.
By gluing multiple sheets of plywood together one on top of the other and cutting them lenghtwise thus creating a plank of vertical plywood. Giving this product a look reminiscent of "Bamboo".These planks can then be milled to different shapes, lenghts and sizes.
This invention could mainly be used as hard wood flooring, but could also be used for, mouldings, counter tops, any number of applications.

Description

DESCRIPTION
"Vertical plywood"
By gluing multiple sheets of plywood,or ply one on top of the other to the desired thickness (Fig.1) and then cutting this slab of layered plywood lengthwise to the width needed (Fig.2).
You end up with a vertical plywood plank (Fig.3) that as a look and grain totally different from any existing wood product on the market today.
This new laminate can be milled to suit different purposes.
Due to the compresion strenght ,flexibility and stability of vertical plywood, specially if high grade 3/4 inch B.0 Fir is used.
One of the primary uses could be hardwood flooring (Fig.4),by tongue and grooving the vertical plywood planks like any other hardwood product. This flooring material can also be nailed like any regular hardwood floor with a flooring nail gun.
Complimentary products such as nosings ,reducer mouldings, engineered flooring, and even laminated flooring.Could also be manufactured with vertical plywood using the same techniques and equipment as regular wood.
This material can be stained, varnished, painted, sanded, milled in a variety of different shapes and sizes. And any variety of plywood, such as russian birch, could be used for different looks, and uses.
The Canadian wood industry could benefit greatly by the arrival of a new product on the market. This industry as suffered a lot of closures of saw mills and other related manufacturing plants. This product, especially for the use in the flooring manufacturing side of the industry, could be as profitable as the introduction of bamboo flooring. In fact this could become the new Canadian bamboo. By using enviromentally friendly glues and varnishes it could also be as "green" as desired.
The process being so simple would not necessarilly need major overhauls of existing plants and would not incur major financial costs either.

Claims (4)

1- The gluing of multiple sheets of plywood one on top of the other to produce a solid block of plywood that is then cut lengthwise to a desired thickness. Thus creating a vertical plywood plank.
2- The use of the afore mentionned plank in the manufacturing of hardwood flooring.
3- The use of the afore mentionned plank in the manufacturing of engineered flooring.
4- The use of the afore mentionned plank in the manufacturing of laminated flooring.
