Abstract

Un appareil et une méthode permettant de gazéifier en carence d'air de matières organiques solides, y compris la biomasse et d'autres déchets, pour convertir l'énergie des produits chimiques stockée dans ces matériaux en énergie thermique ou en produits gazeux qui peuvent être utilisés dans la synthèse de produits biochimiques et/ou de produits chimiques. En particulier, le système utiliser un gazéifieur comprenant un âtre de "lit de cendres mobile" où la matière biologique est partiellement oxydée à une faible température (inférieure à 1500 degrés F) dans une chambre carrée ou rectangulaire munie d'un toit plat, effilé ou en voûte. Les gaz de combustion du gazéifieur sont maintenus à une température en utilisant une chambre de régénération et de récupération, puis sont soumis à une oxydation secondaire dans un agent oxydant. Les gaz à haute température produits par le système peuvent être utilisés avantageusement, par exemple, comme source d'énergie thermique pour un dispositif de récupération de chaleur traditionnel comme un échangeur de chaleur, un générateur de vapeur , un chauffeur à pétrole lourd ou à air chaud ou une chaudière à vapeur.
