Abstract

The invention relates to a device for introducing gas into a melt consisting of a foamable metal by means of at least one pipe for producing metal foam. Furthermore, the invention comprises a process for producing metal foam as well as a metal foam article. According to the invention, it is provided that at least one gas feed pipe (1) projects into the melt (S) so as to protrude and has a gas outlet cross section (2) with a surface of 0.006 to 0.2 mm2 as well as a pipe face end (3) of less than 4.0 mm2 at the projecting end and that there is uniformity of the diameter or the size of the respective individual bubbles and the size of the gas bubbles is controlled by a setting of the flow-in parameters of the gases. To ensure stable gas bubble separation criteria over long periods of time, the gas feed pipe consists of a ceramic, at least in the area of the projecting end.
