Abstract

Pour désulfurer des matières carbonées contenant du soufre on fait réagir ces matières avec un mélange constitué d'un agent oxydant et d'un solvant oxygéné tel que de l'éther de diéthyle dans des conditions alcalines à une température variant de préférence de la température ambiante à environ 250 ·F (121 ·C) et à une pression préférée située entre environ 1 atmosphère et 2 atmosphères. L'utilisation de rayonnements - tels que les rayons X, infrarouges, visibles, hyperfréquences, ou ultraviolets, alpha, bêta ou gamma ou d'autres rayonnements atomiques émanant d'une matière radioactive, ou les ultrasons - facilite la désulfuration. Les produits issus de la réaction sont une matière carbonée désulfurée dans laquelle la teneur en soufre est (par exemple) inférieure à environ 1 %, et des composés de soufre séparés.
