Abstract
Pour traiter des maladies oculaires divers types de médications sont utilisés. elles sont utilisées sous la forme de préparations à usage local ou sous la forme de préparations systémiques à absorber par voie orale ou par voie parentérale. Parmi les préparations à usage local certaines sont destinées uniquement à un usage local, par exemple la framycétine, la néomycine, le lotéprednol ébanoate, etc. Toutefois, une grande majorité de médicaments ophtalmiques à usage local sont également destinés à une utilisation systémique, par exemple, la Ciprofloxacine, la Gentamicine, le Timolol, la Clonidine, la Dexaméthasone, la Bétaméthasone, le Carbachol etc. Certains de ces médicaments, lorsqu'ils sont utilisés localement, présentent également des effets systémiques et s'ils présentent une nature sérieuse ils limitent l'utilisation de tel ou tel médicament, par exemple en cas d'effets cardiopulmonaires de .beta.-bloquants tels que le timolol; la sécheresse buccale, les rougeurs, la fièvre, la tachycardie, la rétention urinaire, l'irritabilité convulsive avec l'atropine; l'hypertension avec la phényléphine; la salivation accrue, la nausée, les vomissements, la diarrhée, les crampes d'estomac, les sécrétions bronchiques, la constriction bronchique, l'asthme, la bradycardie, la paresthésie avec un myotique; l'hypotension avec la clonidine; la bouche sèche, la fatigue et la somnolence avec l'apraclonidine et la brimonidine.
