Description

NUTRITIONAL PRODUCTS AND METHODS FOR TREATING AND
PREVENTING CANCER AND OTHER DEGENERATIVE DISEASES
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention concerns novel nutritional products and the methods for treatment and prevention of the diseases selected from the group consisting of cancer, benign tumor, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, type II
diabetesmellitus, autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinaldisease, and combinations thereof, in the same individual, independently or simultaneously.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
CANCER
We will try to describe treating cancer and other degenerative diseases, especially focusing on nutritional therapy. First to begin with, cancer is described. Cancer will become the leading cause of death in western society. Over 2.5 million Americans are currently being treated for cancer. Europe has an even higher incidence of cancer. Cancer is treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or biological therapy.
Surgery is the primary treatment of choice for about 67~ of cancer patients. A million cancer cells remain undetectably even after the surgery. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy may kill 99~ of the cancer in the body. But, the few cancer cells, which survive these treatments, become resistance to the therapy and may even speed up the course of disease in the immune-suppressed patient.
Radiation therapy, chemotherapy and biological therapy have side effects, especially immune suppression. Cancer treatments are a paradox, on one hand delivering powerful toxicity to a tumor, but on the other spreading toxicity to the rest of the body. The side effects of such treatments may cause death even before the cancer does. It is obvious that our curb=rent cancer treatment methods are inadequate and incomplete and that we need to have new treatments.
It has been reported by Quillin, "Beating Cancer with Nutrition" , pages 51-62, Nutrition Times Press, Oklahoma (1997) that nutrition helps reverse cancer by changing the underlying causes of cancer.
Cancer is "an abnormal growth", not just "a regionalized tumor".
Cancer is a degenerative disease of abnormal metabolism throughout the body. Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery will do nothing to reduce the underlying conditions that allowed this abnormal growth to thrive.
A new study by Swedish researchers finds that inherited genetic factors make a minor contribution to susceptibility to most types of cancer. This finding indicates that the environment has the principal role in causing cancer (SOURCE: NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF
MEDICINE, 343(2) 78-85, 2000 Jul 13). In the past 15 years, the explosion of molecular genetics has overshadowed environmental explanations by revealing genetic mechanisms underlying cancer.
Our health is composed of a delicate interplay of nutrients consumed, and toxins expelled, coupled with mental and spiritual forces that influence metabolism. The risk of cancer of some kinds is closely related with diets. Dashwood, "Early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer (Review)", ONCOLOGY REPORTS, 6(2):277-281(1999) reports that a higher consumption of vegetables was associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer. It suggests that the best approach to reducing the risk of colorectal cancer would be to increase the dietary intake of fruits, vegetables, and cereals, while reducing the overall intake of fat, particularly from animal sources. It has been reported by Waladkhani et all., "Effect of dietary phytochemicals on cancer development (Review)", INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE, 1(4):747-753(1998) that phytochemicals can inhibit carcinogenesis by inhibiting phase I enzymes, and induction of phase II enzymes, scavenge DNA reactive agents, suppressthe abnormalproliferation of early,preneoplastic lesions, and inhibit certain properties of the cancer cell.
Weisburger, "Antimutagens, Anticarcinogens, and Effective Worldwide Cancer Prevention", Journal of Environmental Pathology, Toxicology and Oncology, 18(2):85-93(1999) reports that nutritional factors play a major role in cancer prevention. It suggests that vegetables, fruits, beverages, and tea provide select means to prevent the activation of carcinogens or to increase their detoxification.
In 1993 , according to a suggestion of the associate director of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program at the National Cancer Institute in the United States, Nicholas James Gonzalez pursued a pilot study of his method in 11 patients suffering inoperable stage 2-4 pancreatic adenocarcinoma, with survival as the end point .
Gonzalez et all., "Evaluation of Pancreatic Proteolytic Enzyme Treatment of Adenocarcinoma of the Pancreas, with Nutrition and Detoxification Support", NUTRITION AND CANCER, 33(2):117-124(1999) reports the result that the aggressive nutritional therapy with large doses of pancreatic enzymes led to significantly increased survival over what would normally expected for patients with pancreatic cancer. This result shows objective tumor regressions according to an aggressive nutritional therapy that involves three components: specialized diets, pancreatic enzymes, and detoxification with daily coffee enemas. Nutritional therapy may be effective for the treatment of cancer not only for the prevention of cancer.
BENIGN TUMOR
The tumor is divided into benignancy and malignancy. A malignant tumor is called cancer. A benign tumor in this invention in the object refers to polyps, hemangioma, and lymphoma. The relationship between polyps and cancer is not fully understood. A hemangioma is a benign tumor consisting of dilated blood vessels . Hemangiomas may cause problems because of location; it can interfere with the function of the organ.
LIVER DISEASE
Liver disease in this invention in the object refers to hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, fatty liver, and so on. All over the world we find that liver problems are increasing. Hepatitis can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, infestation with parasites, chemicals, toxins, or immune diseases. Hepatitis can cause permanent liver damage. There is no specific treatment for hepatitis A, B, C, and D. Cirrhosis of the liver is a degenerative inflammatory disease that results in hardening and scarring of liver cells . The liver becomes unable to function properly due to the scarred tissue, which prevents the normal passage of blood through the liver. Fatty liver is characterized by the deposit of fat particles in the cells of the liver. ~nlhen this condition is accompanied by inflammation and scarring of the liver, it is known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) . Generally said, fatty liver is common and not serious. But, the chances of high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes mellitus is significantly higher. There is no specific treatment for people with a fatty liver or NASH who are not overweight.
U. S. Pat. No. 5, 571, 783 discloses a composition that provides a nutritionally complete, caloric-denseformulation suitablefor use as a supplement or total enteral feeding in order to treat patients with hepatic disease. It has been reported by Cabot, "The healthy liver & bowel book", pages 20-27, WHAS, Australia (1999) that the vital principles to enhance the liver function is that sufficient nutrition from plant sources and keeping bowels moving are emphasized It has been also reported by Cabot's idem at pages 28-35 that it is important to use a powerful liver tonic that contains the most essential natural substances for healthy liver function.
Such a powerful liver tonic is able to support the detoxification pathways in the liver which breakdown toxins. It is also able to improve the structural and functional integrity of the liver cells and liver filter. There may be a close relationship between improving the function of the liver and nutrition.
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Cardiovascular disease in this invention in the object refers to angina pectoris, heart attack, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, valvular disease, cerebral thrombosis, and so on. The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart and blood vessels . There has been a marked increase in the incidence of heart disease in recent years . It is the leading health problem in the Western world.
Hypertension is an extremely common form of cardiovascular disease. Untreated hypertension is the leading cause of stroke, and also greatly increases the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and kidney failure. Hyperlipidemia is a group of disorders characterized by an excess of fatty substances, such as cholesterol, triglycerides, and lipoproteins, in the blood. Hyperlipidemia is an important risk factor in developing atherosclerosis and heart disease. Arteriosclerosis is a term that refers to a group of disorders characterized by thickening and loss of elasticity of the arterial wall and frequently compromises blood flow.

Accumulation of fatty plaque composed primarily of cholesterol and cholesterol ester is the hallmark of the disease. It is the underlying cause of most heart attacks and many strokes.
The basic causes of heart diseases are wrong dietary habits, faulty style of living and various stresses . The famous Framingham Heart Study of the National Heart and Lung Institute identified seven maj or risk factors in coronary heart disease . These are : ( 1 ) elevated blood levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and otherfatty substances; (2) elevated blood pressure; (3) elevated blood uric acid levels (mainly caused by high protein diet); (4) certain metabolic disorders, notably diabetes; (5) obesity; (6) smoking;
and (7) lack of physical exercise. Each or a combination of these risk factors can contribute to heart disease. Most of them are of dietary origin. These risk factors can be controlled by changing one's lifestyle and readjusting the diet.
U. S. Pat. 5, 496, 569 discloses a method for simultaneous treatment of osteoporosis and hypertension with potassium bicarbonate. U.S.
Pat. 5,804,204 discloses potassium salts for ameliorating or preventing hypertension. These references are aimed at treating hypertension using potassium salts.
Recently, the role of diet has drawn more attention. For years, doctors have advised reducing sodium to help lower blood pressure .
Now, they've discovered that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products can lower blood pressure. A new eating guide called the DASH diet may help you prevent or lower high blood pressure. The DASH diet means "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension". Researchers aren't sure why the combination diet fared better. However, they believe that it's due to the mixture of nutrients provided, rather than any single ingredient.
Growing evidence suggeststhatlowering serum cholesterollevels, particularly low-density lipoprotein levels, will reduce the risk for coronary heart disease. A new study by a California researcher found that lifestyle changes, including a highly restrictive vegetarian diet, may reverse coronary heart disease. The study provides encouraging signs that atherosclerosis may be reversed through drastic diet and lifestyle interventions.
In recent years, it has been reported by Diehl, "Coronary Risk Reduction Through Intensive Community-Based Lifestyle Intervention: The Coronary Heart Improvement Project (CHIP) Experience", THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF CARDIOLOGY, 82/10B:83T-87T(1998) that vigorous cholesterol lowering with diet, drugs, or a combination has been shown to slow, arrest, or even reverse atherosclerosis. Participants of the literature are encouraged to exercise 30 minutes a day and to embrace a largely unrefined plant-food-centered diet that is high in complex carbohydrates and fiber; very low in fat, animal protein, sugar, and salt; and virtually free of cholesterol. These are important findings with major potential for saving future lives. There may be a close relationship between preventing and/or reversing cardiovascular disease and nutrition.

KIDNEY DISEASE
Kidney disease in this invention in the object refers to chronic renal failure, IgA nephropathy, nephrotic syndrome and so on.
Chronic renal failure may result from diet-related conditions such as atherosclerotic disease, diabetes mellitus, and infections secondary to kidney stones . Nephrotic syndrome is marked by edema and excess protein in the urine. It can be caused by lesions of glomeruli (small structures in the kidney made of capillaries) that become inflamed, or by chronic diseases such as diabetes or lupus.
IgA nephropathy is a form of mesangial proliferative nephritis.
Inflammation of the renal glomeruli occurs, and there are IgA (a type of antibody) deposits in the kidney.
U.S. Pat. No. 5,591,736 discloses a method of retarding the chronic renal failure by the administration of DHEA in effective amounts. U.S. Pat. No. 4,957,938 discloses a novel nutritional formation comprising mixtures of mixed salts formed between branched-chain alpha-keto-acids and basic L-amino acid for use by renal patients on a low protein diet.
The renal diet is aimed at slowing the progression of renal failure.
A low-protein diet is a diet used in the treatment of kidney disease to reduce the load of kidney. The purpose of the diet that restricts protein, sodium, and potassium is to help the body decrease the waste products produced by metabolism, which are toxic if they are not eliminated from the body.
Some proteins are called high quality proteins . Milk, eggs, cheese and meats are examples of foods containing high quality proteins.
It's usually used in the renal diet. But, we will describe later that the amount of putrefaction present in the body depends upon how long the protein undergoing putrefaction has been in the body and that meat and chicken take a longer time to digest.
Beans, peas, lentils, nut, grains and vegetables contain some protein. Generally said, the proteins in these foods are considered low quality proteins. It has been reported by Segasothy et all., "Vegetarian diet: Relevance in renal disease", Nephrology, 3(5):397-405(1997) that the vegetarian diet, especially the soy diet, contains sufficient essential amino acids, minerals, and trace elements for optimal nutrition, being deficient only in vitamin B-12. An appropriate cereal-legume mixture supplies proteins complementary for essential amino acids. Additional positive features of this diet are the high ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids, the absence of cholesterol, and the lower net acid production in comparison with a conventional low-protein diet. Thus, it may be useful for using an appropriate cereal-legume mixture toward kidney disease.
PANCREATITIS
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas resulting from an obstruction of the pancreatic duct . The pancreas can also become inflamed from being overworked in those who ingest too much rich food high in animal fats and proteins and refined sugars . This forces the pancreas to produce excessive amounts of digestive enzymes, these digestive enzymes can become trapped inside the pancreas and start to digest the pancreas itself. This process is known as auto-digestion of the pancreas . This may result in cysts developing inside the pancreas . Because the pancreas is the gland that produces insulin and glucagon, which regulate blood sugar levels and contribute to digestion, chronic pancreatitis leads to glucose intolerance (diabetes) and digestive difficulties. Thus, ingesting too much food from animal origin is harmful for the pancreas.
TYPE II DIABETES MELLITUS
Diabetes is a common disease in Western world. It is said that diabetes is a chronic disease that has no cure. Type I diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disorder, in which the body does not produce any insulin, most often occurring in children and young adults . Type II diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder resulting from the body's inability to make enough, or properly use, insulin.
It is the most common form of the disease. Type II diabetes accounts for 90-95 percent of diabetes. The complications of diabetes are blindness, kidney diseases, nerve diseases and amputations.
The cause of diabetes is a mystery. Perhaps more than most diseases, diabetes mellitus is associated with diet . During the past 10 years a dilemma has developed regarding the most beneficial balance between fat and carbohydrate in the diabetic diet. As a result, the current ADA (American Diabetes Association) guidelines do not make a single dietary recommendation for people with diabetes.
Generally said, nutrition, along with exercise and medications (insulin or oral diabetes pills), is important for good diabetes control, which means keeping blood-sugar level as close to normal (nondiabetic level) as possible.
Nutritional principles for the management of diabetes and related Complications are recommended by ADA. See, Ziegler et all . , "Present Knowledge in Nutrition", pages 445-455, ILSI PRESS, Washington, Seventh Edition(1996). The Goals of nutrition therapy for diabetes mellitus are summarized as follows:
1. Maintenance of blood glucose levels at as near to normal as possible by balancing food intake with insulin or oral glucose-lowering medications and physical activity;
2. Achievement of optimal serum lipid levels;
3. Provision of adequate energy for maintaining or achieving reasonable weights for adults, normal rates of growth and development in children;
4. Prevention and treatment of the acute complications of diabetes such as severe hypo-or hyperglycemia;
5. Prevention and treatment of the long-term complications of diabetes such as renal disease, autonomic neuropathy, and cardiovascular disease; and 6. Improvement in overall health through optimal nutrition.
U. S. Pat. 5, 900, 435 discloses composition, food product and uses of 3-guanidinopropionic acid to prevent or treat obesity in type II diabetic patients. U.S. Pat. 5,962,030 discloses a daily supplement and method of treatment for diabetic control. The supplement includes various micronutrients. U.S. Pat. 5,871,769 discloses methods and compositions for the prevention and/or treatment of diabetes mellitus, using magnesium gluconate alone or in combination with one or more antioxidants or in conventional diet and/or insulin therapy.
The treatments described in these patents have merely satisfied the primary condition, maintenance of blood glucose levels at as near to normal, in all the six conditions that ADA recommended in 1994 mentioned above. We think that the treatment of diabetes mellitus should satisfy all the six conditions.
AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS
Autoimmune disorders are caused by an immune response against the body's own tissues. Examples of autoimmune disorders include Hashimoto's thyroiditis, pernicious anemia, Addison's disease, Type I diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, Sjogren's syndrome, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, Reiter's syndrome, and Graves disease. Autoimmune disorders result in destruction of one or more types of body tissues, abnormal growth of an organ, or changes in organ function. The disorder may affect only one organ or tissue type or may affect multiple organs and tissues.
Immune system disorders occur when the immune response is inappropriate, excessive, or lacking. Autoimmune disorders develop when the immune system destroys normal body tissues . This is caused by a hypersensitivity reaction similar to allergies. In the case of type I diabetes, the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells.
Autoimmune disorders occur when the normal control process is disrupted. They may also occur if normal body tissue is altered so that it is no longer recognized as "self." Autoimmunity is controlled through balanced suppression of the immune system. The goal is to reduce the immune response against normal body tissue while leaving intact the immune response against microorganisms and abnormal tissues. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressant are used to reduce the immune response. These medicines tend to focus on suppressing the symptoms . This may be necessary in acute severe cases, but in the long term such drugs may over burden the liver whose job it is to break down these drugs into harmless metabolites.
These drugs can sometimes cause liver disease. This is a paradox because diseases of the immune system will be aggravated by anything that stresses or damages the liver.
GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASE
Gastrointestinal diseases in this invention in the object refer to chronic gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, and so on. There are many problems that can affect the small and large intestines, and most are associated with incorrect dietary habits and/or an overgrowth or infestation with unfriendly microorganisms in the bowels. Stress also plays a large role in the function of the bowels because it can reduce the circulation of blood to the absorptive areas of the bowels.
U.S. Pat. 5,952,295 discloses nutritional composition for the treatment or prophylaxis of inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract. The composition comprises: (1) casein rich in TGF-beta-2; (2) a lipid source providing about 35~ to about 50~
to energy; and (3) a carbohydrate source. U.S. Pat. 5,780,451 discloses an enteral nutritional product for a person having ulcerative colitis, which containing in combination (a) an oil blend which contains eicosapentaenoic acid and/or docosahexaenoic acid, and (b) a source of indigestible carbohydrate. These patents are aimed at treating inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract using a particular protein and/or fatty acids and/or a kind of carbohydrate.
TOXINS AND DETOXIFICATION
The detoxification is important in this invention as a part of the therapy. The threatening material to our health is toxin, which occurs on two basic bodily levels, external and internal. We may introduce toxins from our environment by inhaling them or by ingesting them. Internally, our body produces toxins through normal daily functions. One thing is substance that biochemical and cellular activities generate. These unstable molecules calledfree radicals. The other thing is metabolic waste products.
Intestinal toxemia is a process resulting from a certain type of diet or from constipation. A single individual harbors in the intestine 100 trillion viable bacteria and 100 different bacterial spices, which constitute the intestinal flora. The intestinal bacteria perform the extremely varied types of metabolism in the intestine, resulting in the production either beneficial or detrimental products to the host.
The intake of meat, chicken, and other fowl lead to a decrease in fecal weights and an increase in putrefactive substances, including amines, ammonia, phenol, indole, skatole, hydrogen sulfide, and p-cresol formed by the increased harmful bacteria action on certain amino acids . The amount of putrefaction present in the body depends upon how long the protein undergoing putrefaction has been in the body. All forms of meat take a longer time to be digested than fruits and vegetables . Chicken and other fowl take the longest of all. Meat includes red meats, cured meats, organ meats, and meat products.
Autointoxication is the result of intestinal toxemia. It is the process whereby the body literally poisons itself by maintaining a cesspool of decaying matter in its colon. Simply stated, autointoxication occurs when the body absorbs too much of its own toxic waste. Intestinal toxemia and autointoxication are direct results of intestinal constipation, which is very wide spread. The extra time that food residues remain in the intestine because of constipation contributes to the formation of toxic substances, alters intestinal flora, and results in intestinal toxemia and autointoxication. See, Jensen, "DR. JENSEN'S GUIDE TO BETTER BOWEL
CARE", pages 27-44, Avery Publishing Group, New York(1999). When the bowel is underactive, some of toxic wastes are more likely to be absorbed through the bowel wall and into the bloodstream. The other of them is converted by the harmful bacteria into carcinogen, mutagens, cocarcinogens or tumor promoting agents in the colon.
The blood then circulates these toxins to every part of the body and deposits some of them in tissues. The greatest amounts of toxins are retained in the constitutionally weakest tissues. These toxins become crystallized and hardened throughout the billions of cells all over the body. If any other elimination system is underactive, more wastes are retained in the body.
As toxins accumulate in the tissues, alterations in cellular function take place, especially in the tissues in which toxins have settled. An underactive body burdened with toxic wastes does not have the capability to excrete toxins. As a body becomes increasingly in a toxic state, proper oxygenation cannot take place in the tissues . Without oxygen, the body loses energy, and the tired body continues its downward spiral. The body has no recourse but to malfunction and lose cell-to-cell communication. We consider it may be the basic cause of many of today' s disorders and illnesses, especially degenerative disease.
Detoxification is the process of either clearing toxins from the body or neutralizing or transforming them. There are seven detoxification pathways in the body - liver, bowel, blood, lungs, lymph, skin and kidney. If the filtering and/or detoxification systems within the liver are overloaded or inefficient, this will cause toxins, dead cells and microorganisms to build up in the blood stream. The purpose of detoxification is to dissolve and eliminate toxins that have formed in any part of the body and to build a healthy blood stream.
$ NUTRITION AND IMMUNE SYSTEM
Deterioration of immune function may result from reduced intake of essential vitamins and minerals for the immune system. Vitamin A deficiency has been associated with a higher incidence of cancer and increased susceptibility to carcinogens. Vitamin A and related retinoids may increase immunity to tumors by several mechanisms, including enhancement of T cytotoxic lymphocyte activity, NK cell activity, macrophage activity, and apoptosis.
Dietary supplementation with Vitamin B-6, C, and E enhances a number of aspects of lymphocyte function. See, Grimble, "Effect of Antioxidative Vitamins on Immune Function with Clinical Applications", Internat. J. Vit. Nutr. Res. 67:312-320(1997).
Vitamin E is an essential vitamin most useful for its antioxidant effects. Without vitamin E, cell membranes and DNA are less protected from free-radical damage.
Selenium is necessary as integral component e.g. metalloenzyme glutatione peroxidase for preventing the immune system from free radicals . As an antioxidant, selenium, in the form of selenocysteine, prevents or slows the biochemical aging process of tissue degeneration and hardening. Zinc is a component of zinc metalloenzymes, which are necessary for the proper functioning of immune sys tem .
Multiple antioxidant vitamin supplements together with a low fat and high fiber diet may improve the efficiency of standard cancer therapy. See, Prasad et all., "High Doses of Multiple Antioxidant Vitamins: Essential Ingredients in Improving the Efficacy of Standard Cancer Therapy", Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 18(1):13-25(1999). However, the literature towards a connection between the immune system and nutritional status is controversial, and the mechanisms are not yet completely defined.
The interactions among the immune and other systems in eating disorders are beginning to be studied.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an obj ect of the present invention to provide the nutritional products and the methods preventing and treating at least one disease selected from the group consisting of cancer, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, type II
diabetes mellitus, autoimmune disorders, and gastrointestinal disease, in the same person, through enhancing the host defense system, individually or simultaneously.
The nutritional product is comprised of the "main diet" and "supplements" . The term "main diet" as used herein means the diet that supplies almost desired levels of macro- and micronutrients.
The main diet may comprise about 50 to about 90~ of the whole daily food intake. The remainder of the main diet is called herein "side dishes". Side dishes are not included in this invention as the nutritional product.
The main diet is a "cooked grains-legumes mixture" in definite proportions to give complex carbohydrate, an essential amino acid, essential fatty acid, vitamins, and minerals supply satisfying the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) that is the current standard for most nutrients, in their natural form with all the associated cofactors, except vitamin A, C, B-12, and certain minerals. When the nutrition of side dishes is sufficient and adequate, the grains-legumes mixture may be substituted for only brown rice.
Whole grain and legume with its outer skin are used herein as long as possible because they include valuable nutrients mentioned herein later as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
Brown rice comprises 50~-70~ of the whole grains-legumes mixture.
Barley, pearl barley, a kind of soybean, a kind of millet, and other grains and other legumes hold the remainder of whole grains-legumes mixture. The nutrition and pharmacological advantage of wheat, barley, or other grains are fewer than that of the brown rice.
This therapy replenishes natural chlorophyll, fermentation product, wheat germ product, medical herb tea, and natural vitamin C as important composition for this therapy to treat degenerative diseases . We call these product "supplements" , taken with or away from the main diet. Also, "Chinese herbal medicine" is added if the patient has symptoms such as general fatigue and/or poor appetite.
Natural chlorophyll is indispensable for this invention as it has the effect of blood-cleansing and helping liver detoxification.
The term "fermentation product" as used herein means a fermentation product by microbes, which include a lot of enzymes as a by-product of fermentation. A fermentation product is used for improvement of intestinal flora. The term "wheat germ product" as used herein means wheat germ processed food, which includes mainly wheat germ powder. Wheat germ powder adequately supplies magnesium, zinc, selenium, and vitamin E for enhancing the immune system, which mentioned herein above as NUTRITION AND IMMUNE SYSTEM in BACKGROUND.
Natural vitamin C is useful as antioxidant nutrients to prevent damage to the immune system itself . Medical herb tea has the effect to promote the excretion of toxin and work for the improvement of organ function, such as kidney, liver, stomach and spleen.
There are 11 distinct types of the nutritional product. The first nutritional product as a minimum formula comprises cooked brown rice and natural chlorophyll. As to the nutrition of brown rice, it lacks in an adequate amount of certain essential amino acids.
Side dishes such as soy products, fish, or shellfish are necessary to supplement these nutrients . So, the ratio of cooked brown rice in whole daily food cannot exceed 70~. The ratio of natural chlorophyll is in the range of 2 to 9 parts, more preferably in the range of 3 to 6 parts, based on 100 parts of brown rice on a dry basis . The effect is hardly demonstrated when its ratio is fewer than 2~. The effect is almost similar to 9~ ratio, when its ratio exceeds 9~ . Natural chlorophyll is taken with or away from the meal .

The first nutritional product is mainly directed to the prevention of the diseases herein.
The second nutritional product comprises cooked brown rice, natural chlorophyll, a fermentation product, and a wheat germ product. The ratio of cooked brown rice in whole daily food cannot similarly exceed 70~, which are described in the section of the first nutritional product. The ratio of fermentation product and the ratio of wheat germ product are in the range of 2 to 12 parts and 2 to 9 parts based on 100 parts of brown rice on a dry basis, respectively. More preferably, both the ratios are in the range of 3 to 9 parts and 3 to 6 parts, respectively. The approach of setting the ratio is equal to natural chlorophyll . These supplements are taken with or away from meals . The second nutritional product is mainly directed to the treatment of the diseases with slight symptoms herein. It's also directed to the prevention of local recurrence and distant metastasis of small-localized cancer. It is popularly known that the most common causes of cancer death are locoregional recurrences or distant metastases, or both. So, their prevention is very important.
The third nutritional product is addition of either or both of medical herb tea and natural vitamin C to the second nutritional product. Medical herb tea is necessary for patients with a heavy accumulation of toxins in the body. Natural vitamin C is necessary for patients with a weak immune system. Since medical herb tea herein has completely no side effect unlike other medical herb tea, it is possible to drink this tea commonly instead of coffee or normal tea without a break.
The fourth nutritional product comprises a cooked grains-legumes mixture and natural chlorophyll. Grains and legumes are characterized by the contents of major- and micronutrients and pharmacological properties. Major- and micronutrients are complex carbohydrate,protein differentin essentialamino acid composition, fat different in essential fatty acid composition, vitamins, and minerals, which are described later minutely. The varieties in the grains-legumes mixture are brown rice, barley, pearl barley, a kind of soybean, and a kind of millet.
Brown rice comprises 50~-70~ of whole grains and legumes on a dry basis. The effect, which is described referred to herein later as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED DESCRIPTION, is hardly demonstrated, when its percentage is under 50. When its percentage exceeds 70, whole daily food may lack the necessary amount of threonine, isoleucine, and valine that are essential amino acids.
The lack becomes remarkable, when those amino acids of side dishes is not adequate.
Barley and pearl barley, and a kind of soybean comprise both 10~-30~, more preferably 20~-30~, of whole grains and legumes on a dry basis. A kind of millet comprises 2~-20~, more preferably 5~-10~, of whole grains and legumes on a dry basis. Though the proportion of individual grains and legumes is shown in the range, it must become 100, if all the actual proportions are totaled.

Giving most nutrients supply satisfying the RDA, except a few nutrients, is possible thanks to this appropriate mixture based on the determined range of percentage. The aim of taking the third nutritional product is the same as the first nutritional product.
But, you don't have to mind the nutrition of side dishes, unlike in the situation of the first nutritional product.
The fifth nutritional product comprises a cooked grains-legumes mixture, natural chlorophyll, a fermentation product, and a wheat germ product. It is mainly directed to the treatment of at least one disease mentioned above, independently or simultaneously.
Especially, this product is used in the case of the disease with advanced symptoms. It's also directed to the prevention of local recurrence and distant metastasis of advanced cancer. ln~hen the patients suffer from advanced stage cancer or the combination of cancer and other degenerative diseases simultaneously, the proportion of the main diet must increase. In some cases, the diet comprises almost completely of the main diet . The remainder is soup and supplements of this invention. So, the fifth nutritional product is adequate because it supplies almost all desired nutrients.
The sixth nutritional product is the addition of either or both of medical herb tea and natural vitamin C to the fifth nutritional product. The reason for their addition is the same reason as the third nutritional product.
The seventh nutritional product is the addition of either or both of an other grain and an other legume to any grains-legumes mixture in the same definite proportions in the fourth, fifth, or sixth nutritional product. Other grains comprise at least one grain selected from the group consisting of wheat, rye, oats, corn, sorghum, Grain amaranthus, spelt, triticale, kamut, quinoa, teff and combinations thereof . Other legumes comprise at least one legume selected from the group consisting of black-eyed peas, black turtle beans, chick peas, great northern beans, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, mung beans, navy beans, pinto beans, split peas, and combinations thereof. Other grain and other legume comprise both up to 15~ of whole grains and legumes on a basis of dry weight.
Though the proportion of individual grains and legumes is shown in the range, it must become 100, if all the actual proportions are totaled. It is possible to provide sufficient variety, taste, and versatility under the definite proportion. They are effective, when the special nutritional factor is required. For example, if a patient suffers from anemia and needs iron, it is effective to add Grain amaranth, which is rich in iron, to the grains-legumes mixture.
The grains-legumes mixture or brown rice in all the seven nutritional products is usually cooked using rice cooker, at home.
The other cooking form is couscous.
The eighth nutritional product is the addition of buckwheat processed food to any nutritional product of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh product. Usually, buckwheat is processed into buckwheat grouts, buckwheat noodles, buckwheat pasta, or buckwheat flour products such as pancakes and crepes because it's difficult to cook it in its original grain form, at home. Buckwheat processed food comprises up to 20~ of whole daily food. The nutritional and pharmacological properties are described later.
The ninth nutritional product is substantially the same as any nutritional product of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh product. But, grains and legumes are processed into another product such as noodle, bread, pasta, chapatis, cracker, matzos, muffin, and crepes instead of cooking. We must consider the situation when patients go out or are in journey. Processed food can be utilized as portable food when they go out. Individual ratio of each grain or legume used in processed foods must obey the ratio written down in each embodiment.
The tenth and eleventh nutritional products are only the supplements. These products are used when patients have poor appetite or are in the hospital. Under these situations, patients cannot eat the main diet . In addition, these supplements are useful to alleviate the side effects of drug or chemotherapy and radiation therapy with cancer and to accelerate the recovery from the disease.
It's also available while in journey or at work. The tenth nutritional product comprises natural chlorophyll, a fermentation product, and a wheat germ product. Each supplement must be taken 3g-12g, 3g-15g, and 3g-12g on a daily dosage form, respectively.
The amount should be determined according to the degree of symptoms or the type of disease. The eleventh nutritional product is the addition of either or both of medical herb tea and natural vitamin C to the tenth nutritional product . The reason for their addition is the same reason as the third nutritional product.
The present invention relates to two methods . One is the method for treating the disease. The other is the method for preventing the disease . The method for treatment is also used for prevention of local recurrence or distant metastasis of cancer. The method for treating the disease comprises dietary restriction, eating daily food, and taking Chinese herbal medicine if necessary. The method for preventing the disease comprises dietary restriction and eating daily food.
The method for treating the disease is only one even if the kind of disease is different. Multiple diseases can be treated by one method of this invention. Therefore, it is possible by the one method to treat combined diseases, such as a combination of cancer, liver disease, and diabetes mellitus, a combination of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and renal disease. How one method of this invention demonstrates the effect for multiple diseases is described referred to herein later as TREATING COMBINED DISEASE
USING THIS INVENTION in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
Dietary restriction is absolutely necessary for preventing the progress of symptoms associated with the disease and for augmenting the effect of the treatment by ingesting nutritional products herein.
Dietary restriction in the method for treating the disease includes (a) avoiding meats, chicken, and other fowls; (b) avoiding eggs and cow's milk; (c) avoiding sugars and sweet foods; and (d) avoiding refined foods. Eating meats, chicken, and other fowl causes autointoxication mentioned herein above as TOXINS AND
DETOXIFICATION in BACKGROUD. Eating eggs and cow's milk causes immune malfunction mentioned herein later as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST
DEFENSE SYSTEM in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. Taking sugars, sweetfoods, and refined food easily increase blood glucose and insulin production mentioned later herein as TREATING CANCER USING THIS
INVENTION in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. In dietary restriction, the term "avoiding" of (a) , (b) , and (c) is switched to "strictly avoiding"
in the case of treating cancer. Dietary restriction in the method for preventing the disease omits the term "(d) avoiding refined foods" . Furthermore, in the method for preventing the disease, the term "avoiding meats, chicken, and other fowls" is switched to the term "eating meats, chicken, and other fowls up to 10~ of whole daily food on caloric basis". We must think that this method is convenient to enable ready compliance, while ensuring the effect of this method.
Eating daily food in the method includes: (a) taking the nutritional product according to the degree of the symptom; (b) taking side dishes such as root crops, cruciferous vegetables, Allium sp., seaweed, fish, shellfish and fermented soy products;
and (c) taking nuts, pickles, soups, and fruits which include little sugar. In the method for treating the disease, the nutritional product is selected from the second, third, fifth, sixth, or seventh product according to the degree of the symptom. The type of disease is irrelevant for the selection of the product . In the method for preventing the disease, the nutritional product is selected from the first or fourth product according to the quality of the side dishes mentioned above.

DETAILED DESCRIPITION OF THE INVENTION
MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES
The main diet is a "cooked grains-legumes mixture" in definite proportions . Whole grains and legumes with the outer skin are mainly used in this invention. Micronutrients, minerals, various enzymes, and the dietary fiber have been removed from whole grains at the stage of processing. Modern milling techniques usually eliminate the aleurone layer of cereals because it is tightly bound to the fiber layer, but this layer contains most of cereal's active anticancer compounds. Therefore, products of whole grains and legumes with the outer skin are recommended.
Brown rice comprises 50~-70~ of the whole grains-legumes mixture.
Brown rice is the rice from which only the hull as been removed.
It is available in three varieties: short, medium, and long-grain.
When cooking rice for this treatment rarely use the long grained rice common to westerners, you may use the short grained rice. Brown rice may be substituted for partly polished brown rice if one has a weak digestion in the event of eating cooked brown rice. The term "partly polished brown rice" as used herein means that the bran layers of brown rice is removed from the rice in 10~-30~ degrees.
Germinated brown rice can be also used as a substitute for brown rice. Usually, brown rice is soaked in water for 22 hours at 30 degree . C . , using a germination apparatus . When 22 hours have passed, a seedling of the germinating brown rice is grown at 0.5 to 1 mm without rotten. It is the best stage for the action of detoxification as well as various nutrients are maximized. Germinated brown rice acquires vastly improved digestibility.
There are few nutrients and the benefit of barley or wheat compared to those of brown rice. Brown rice contains various enzymes, minerals in a large volume, and vegetable cellulose . The brown rice is well known as a useful food to prevent aging and strengthen the function of internal organs.
Barley, pearl barley, soybean, azuki bean, black soybean, millet, Italian millet, and Japanese millet hold the remainder of the whole grains-legumes mixture. The most ideal proportion of brown rice, barley, pearl barley, soybean, azuki bean, black soybean, millet, Italian millet, Japanese millet is 60~, 11~, 9~, 4~, 5~, 5~, 2~, 2~ and 2~, respectively.
Mixed these nine grains and legumes are cooked on automatic for 4 to 5 hours with an electric rice cooker and warmer. You can program the digital timer so that the cooked grains-legumes mixture is warm and ready when you are ready to eat. The cooked grains-legumes mixture is easier to digest than flour products or cracked or rolled grains. These nine grains are cooked directly or in the form of a rice ball when you go out.
Nutritional features of these mixed grains and legumes are further described. There are six general classes of nutrients:
carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. The first three classes are organic compounds that serve as sources of fuel to provide the energy required for the body. The main diet is based on complex carbohydrates . In their natural form, complex carbohydrates exist together with a balanced mix of protein, vitamins, and minerals, which enable the body to use them efficiently. In contrast, refined carbohydrates are found in processed foods such as white sugar and white flour. Foods high in refined carbohydrates are candies, sweet biscuits and cakes made with white flour and sugar, white bread, pastas made with white flour, and fizzy sweet soft drinks. They are converted to glucose, but because they are devoid of vitamins and minerals, the body finds them difficult to metabolize. Fiber is rich in the bran of whole grains and the outer skin of beans.
The nine amino acids the body cannot make are known an essential -they must be obtained from foods. They are histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine,phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. The protein is taken mainly from brown rice, barley, and soybeans. Barley lacks the necessary amount of lysine. Also, brown rice lacks the necessary amount of threonine, isoleucine, and valine, but can supplement them by the addition of soybeans.
This complementarity allows one to obtain mixtures of essential amino acids that are not different, in biological value, from those of proteins of animal origin. Especially, soybeans include high quality protein, which has been shown to be equal to proteins of animal origin. The Black soybean is a particular strain of soybeans .
It includes more ample qualities of lysine and tryptophan that are essential amino acids and linoleic acid than soybeans.
The fatty acids are also categorized as being either essential fatty acids (EFAs) or nonessential fatty acids. There are two groups of EFAs that are omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acid. Linoleic acid and linolenic acid are two common polyunsaturated EFAs, which are abundantly included in soybeans, Japanese millet, and brown rice . Japanese millet richly includes essential fatty acid, which is the richest in the grains. Long chain fatty acids (arachidic acid, behenic acid) and phospholipids, that are seldom included in other cereal, are included on the lipid of buckwheat.
Characteristic vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients to the grains and legumes are described. The brown rice richly includes various nutrients such as vitamin B groups, vitamin E, selenium, and dietary fiber. Barley richly includes various nutrients such as vitamin B groups, and dietary fiber. Soybean richly includes various nutrients such as vitamin E, calcium, and dietary fiber.
Azuki (Aduki or Adzuki ) beans richly include various nutrients such as vitamin B-1, calcium, and iron. In Italian millet or millet, there are rich contents of many vitamin B groups and iron. The iron content of millet is more included than lever. It's characteristic of these millet . As for Japanese millet, there is much phosphorus and calcium.
Consequently, it is possible to take most macro- and micronutrients satisfying the RDA by using these unique grains and legumes, except Vitamin A, C, B-12, and some minerals. Shortages of minerals are especially zinc, sodium, and selenium (depending on soil content). This is possible thanks to an appropriate grain-legume mixture. Additional positive features of the grains-legumes mixture are the absence of cholesterol and the lower net acid production. Vitamin A and those minerals are supplemented with a wheat germ product of this invention. Vitamin B-12 is supplemented with a fermentation product of this invention. Both are mentioned minutely later in each section. Another option is eating side dishes.
Pharmacological properties of these grains and legumes are described. It has been reported by Carper, "The Food Pharmacy", pages 261-263 , A bantam Book, New York ( 1988 ) that rice has a long history as a treatment for severe high blood pressure, kidney problems, and diabetes and that rice clamps down on cholesterol synthesis and keeps blood insulin and glucose on an even keel. It has been also reported by Id. at pages 126-131 that barley, true to legend, is a pharmacological package that helps ward of f heart disease, constipation, and thus other digestive troubles. Pearl barley (Job's Tears) is a particular strain of barley native to China. Pearl barley grows easily in colder climates. It works as anti-inflammatory and is effective in breaking down animal fats in the body. Pearl barley is well used in formulas of Chinese herbal medicine that promote urination, treat edema and arthritislike pain, reduce diarrhea, and assist digestion.
It has been reported by Id. at pages 273-277 that making it a point to eat soybean products somewhat regularly can dramatically improve blood profiles of those with extra-high blood cholesterol and maybe even help reverse some damage already done to arteries . It has been also reported that there's evidence that soybeans help regulate insulin levels, blood sugar, bowel function, and prevent certain cancer, notably of the stomach. Soybeans may contain a number of anticarcinogenic or antitumor agents. Asian women who consume soybean products regularly have lower rates of breast cancer than American women who do not consume soybeans. Azuki beans are used to treat edema and kidney disease in a long established custom in Japan. Black soybeans work on kidneys and help detoxification.
Millet works on kidneys. Japanese millet works on the spleen.
Buckwheat works on the stomach and bowel.
These cooked grains must be always chewed slowly and thoroughly as digestion begins with saliva mixed with food in the mouth. You may set aside enough time to eat, and eat in a relaxed atmosphere.
So, digestive enzymes from the salivary glands in your mouth will be able to mix well with the food. You may think pleasant positive thoughts while eating.
It is necessary to limit side dishes for the treatment of the diseases herein, especially for simultaneous treatment in combination with cancer and other degenerative diseases, such as hepatitis and diabetes mellitus. Root crops such as carrots, cruciferous vegetables, Allium sp., and seaweed are adequate for side dishes, which is containing a lot of vitamins and minerals.
Cruciferousvegetablesare broccoli, brusselsprouts, cabbage, kale, box, choy, mustard greens, and cauliflower. Allium sp. is leek, onion, chive, garlic and shallot. Various nutrients and numerous non-nutrient dietary factors, such as those from the Alium sp. and cruciferous vegetables, may play an important role in treating liver disease and preventing cancer. Those constituents inhibit carcinogenesis by blocking carcinogen activation, increasing carcinogen detoxification, and blocking the action of tumor promoters.
Fish such as saury and shellfish such as oysters are also adequate for side dishes because they don't cause autointoxication in the intestines. They contain large quantity of minerals. Soups averages out to about one or two cups or small bowls of soup per day. They can include vegetables, sea-vegetables, beans, noodles, fish, or shellfish. They can be moderately seasoned with miso, soy sauce, sea salt, or ginger. Miso, a paste of fermented soybean, acts as a chemopreventive agent for colon carcinogenesis. Snacks between meals are fine if you become hungry. Most individuals can enjoy fruit that include little sugar every day. Apples, blackberries, cherries, currants, grapes, lemons, plums, raisins, raspberries, strawberries, and watermelon are available. Watermelon includes little glucose and sucrose.
Recommended whole daily food is described. The main diets may comprise about 50~-90~ of whole daily food intake. Side dishes are the combination of vegetables, sea-vegetables, fish, shellfish, peas, nuts, seeds, pickles, condiments, seasonings, garnishes, fruits and soups, which are not composition of this invention.
When the ratio of main diet, side dishes, and supplements held in the whole are each 60~, 30~, 10~ on a dry basis, the proportion of carbohydrates, protein and fat on caloric basis is approximately 75~, 15~, and 10~ respectively. Fat is mostly in the form of whole grains and beans oil such as brown rice, soybean, and millet, vegetable oil, and fish oil, which is almost all unsaturated fat.
The proportion of saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat is approximately 15~, 30~, and 55~
respectively.
NATURAL CHLOROPHYLL
Chlorophyll is the pigment in plants that gives them their green color and that absorbs the light necessary for photosynthesis.
Natural chlorophyll has a porphyrin ring and a long phytol side chain. A single atom of magnesium, at the center of the molecule, is surrounded by a porphyrin ring. The structure somewhat resembles that of the active constituent of hemoglobin in the blood.
If the magnesium is replaced artificially with other minerals such as copper, Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin, its effect is almost lost.
Chlorella can be used for its substitute because the chlorophyll content of the chlorella is much higher than other plant products .
The effect of chlorophyll is minutely described later herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE SYSTEM in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
This product is different from other chlorophyll products on the market because it contains a far higher concentration of chloroplasts, which is the best form of chlorophyll that various effects herein are maximized. Chlorophyll is chemically very unstably. With the passage of time, Chlorophyll is easily decomposed.
Within the chloroplasts the chlorophylls may be stabilized by being imbedded between a layer of protein and lipid with a carotenoid along the side of the phytol chain of the chlorophyll. This supplement is a freeze-dried product extracted by water and food alcohol as raw materials of a green leaf of Pueraria lobata. It has been manufactured by Japan Kuzu Laboratory Inc . , according to our quality specification. It is necessary to take 3g-12g of Chlorophyll per day (each 1-4g, three times).
FERMENTATION PRODUCT
This supplement is a freeze-dried product with fermentative microbes and enzymes, with a long period of fermentation about five months. Most of the fermentative microbes refer to Bacteria (Bacillus subtilus natto, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Lactis, Bifidobacterium Bifidium), yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), and molds (Aspergillus Oryzae, Aspergillus Niger). These microbes are excellent decomposers, and safe to use since they are predominantly used for fermenting certain food such as Natto, Sake, bread, and yogurt . This product is rich in natural live enzymes. Enzymes are produced as by-products of the fermentation process . The juice of fruit, vegetables, and herbs is used as the substrate for cultivating the microbes.
This product also includes an abundant amount of Vitamin B groups, especially B-12. This product contains almost little sugar, which is characteristic of this product. It contributes to the yeast, which ferments sugar in the substrate very efficiently. Generally said, enzyme products contain sugar in large quantities . But, sugar has a number of ways in which it promotes cancer, referred to herein as TREATING CANCER USING THIS INVENTION.

This supplement is useful for a marked increase of beneficial bacteria for the improvement of intestinal flora as probiotics.
Probiotics, defined as live microbial food supplements, refer to the use of microorganisms for the purpose of creating a beneficial bacterial environment in the intestine. These bacteria produce primarily lactic acid, but also acetic acid, digestive enzymes, and vitamins as well. The digestive enzymes produced by the beneficial intestinal bacteria not only aid the digestive efforts of the body but act to control the activity of the putrefactive bacteria. A less-known but equally important function of these bacteria is to provide important nutrients for building the blood.
A healthy intestinal flora will produce several times as much of many B vitamins as are present in a well-balanced whole-food diet.
This product coupled with dietary fiber settles intestinal toxemia or autointoxication mentioned above.
Especially, Bacillus subtilus natto has an anti-bacterial effect on pathogens such as typhoid bacilli and 0-157 (Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli: EHEC) that causes Hamburger disease. Dipicolinic acid which Bacillus subtilus natto produces has also been proven to be an anti-bacteria agent according to Japanese research. In tests by Nagano Prefecture Insanitary Research Facility, 30,000 parts of 0-157 E-coli were reduced to less than 40 parts by natto extract, which is fermented soybean by Bacillus subtilus natto.
Digestive enzymes and free radical scavenging enzymes are produced as a by-product of the fermentation process. Digestive enzymes refer to amylase, proteolytic enzyme, lipase, and cellulase, which are useful for the improvement of intestinal flora more efficiently and speedily. Free radical scavenging enzymes refer to catalase, peroxidase, and superoxide dimutase, which expel free S radicals as biochemical toxins in the body. The proteolytic enzyme is useful for treatment of cancer, which is reported by Gonzalez, described above herein as CANCER in BACKGROUND. The enzyme activities of this product test at 4, 000-6, 000 DU of alpha-amylase activity per dry matter of gram, 3,000-5,000 HUT of proteolytic activity per dry matter of gram, 30-50 LU of lipolytic activity per dry matter of gram, and 2,000-4,000 units of catalase and peroxidase activity per dry matter of gram. All enzyme activity is expressed in FCC (Food Chemical Codex) units . The term "DU" , "HUT" , and "LU" means Dextrinizing Unit, Hemoglobin Unit on a Tyrosine Basis, and Lipase Unit, respectively. 1 unit of catalase and peroxidase decomposes 1 umole of hydrogen peroxide per minute at degree C. , pH 7 . 0. It has been manufactured by Jouketsu Health Center Inc . , according to our quality specification. It is necessary to take 3-15g of this product per day (each 1-5g, three times).

A wheat germ product, which is a processed food, includes mainly wheat germ. Other constituents are seaweed, which are Wakame seaweed and Konbu seaweed, and an extract of carrot . Wakame and Konbu seaweeds include plenty of marine minerals such as calcium, 25 magnesium, copper, manganese, and sodium. Carrot includes a high amount of Vitamin A. Wheat germ is the rich sources of vitamin E, minerals and linoleic and linolenic acid, which are essential unsaturated fatty acid. Rich minerals of wheat germ are magnesium, zinc, and selenium compared with other food. Especially the content of selenium is about 110 micrograms based on 3.5 ounces, which is fourfold the content of the garlic . Most diets are marginally low in zinc and selenium, which are essential for the immune system.
The raw material uses the wheat cultivated by non-agricultural chemicals. It has been manufactured by Japan Natural Foods Inc., according to our quality specification. It is necessary to take 3-12g of this product per day (each 1-4g, three times).
Natural vitamin C is almost L-ascorbic acid or L-ascorbate, which are often called an outstanding antioxidant. Natural vitamin C
includes freeze-drying the juice of lemons and Kabosu limes. It has been manufactured by Japan Medicine Development Inc . Normally, this food is taken 3-6g per day, which includes about 0.5-1g of Vitamin C. This amount is exceeded compared with the amount of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) , because of taking into account its antioxidant effect. Excess intake of Vitamin C is excreted and not stored in the body.
MEDICAL HERB TEA
Medical herb tea is an effective tea for detoxification as stated above. The tea is extracted from 6 herbs: Houttuynia cordata (leaf) , Artemisia capillaris Thunb. ( leaf ) , Glechoma hederacea var. grandis ( leaf ) , Lycium chinense ( leaf ) , Carthamus tinctorius ( flower) , and Coix lachryma-jobi {seed). The tea has been taken on a continuous basis without a break instead of normal tea or coffee.
Houttuynia cordata is the main herb and works for improvement of the blood circulation from head to toe, cleansing of blood, cleansing of the colon by removing feces adhered to the colon wall, excretion of excess salt in blood and body fluids from the heart and its surroundings, and improvement of kidney functions.
Artemisia capillaris Thunb. works on the liver, stomach, spleen and gall bladder to clear jaundice, fever and to treat hepatitis.
Glechoma hederacea var. grandis is used to treat diseases of the kidney, eye problems and as a poultice for abscesses. Lycium chinense works on liver, kidney and is effective for cleansing of blood. Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) invigorates Blood and dispels Congealed Blood. Coix lachryma-jobi (pearl burley or Job's Tears) promotes urination and leaches our dampness; strengthens the spleen and stops diarrhea. It has been manufactured by Natural medicine laboratory Inc., according to our quality specification.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE
Chinese Herbal Medicine is aimed at supporting patients for early recovering symptoms such as poor digestion accompanied by poor appetite and general fatigue with poor appetite. For example, about 80~ of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy feel fatigue, which in some cases is so severe that patients drop out of treatments.
Herbs are often combined into formulas. The characterization of the nature of the herbs provides insight into how to use and combine them properly. Treating the immune system has been a large part of this medicine for thousands of years . The English transliteration for such treatment is "supporting the normal, nurturing the root" .
While the balanced interaction of all organ systems is the true basis for proper immune function, actual treatment of the immune system revolves around three main organs : the Kidneys, the Spleen, and the Lungs.
In this therapy, a kidney-tonic formula, spleen-tonic formulas, and lung-tonic formulas for treating immune system are mainly used if necessary. Various components of the kidney-tonic formula are involved in the main diet and medical herb tea. The Kidneys govern the individual's base or root immune function. Spleen-tonic formulas help the body carry out the normal metabolic functions of digestion at optimal levels, thus allowing it to break down raw substances into needed nutrients and to make nutrients available to the system. Spleen-tonic formulas we use include "Major Six Herbs", "Ginseng and Longan", and "Ginseng and Tang Gui Ten".
The Lungs control the Qi (vital or primary energy) , which is the most active aspect of the body's immune system. Lung-tonic formulas include "Major Four Herbs" , which is used for lung cancer patients .
If the patient has symptoms such as general fatigue and poor appetite, we use "Ginseng and Astragalus Formula". Ginseng and Astragalus promote the body's cells to secrete cytokines, which then enhance the immune response.
ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE SYSTEM

The invention is aimed at preventing and/or treating the diseases by enhancing the host defense system by the methods of this invention.
The host defense system has a role to add an initial defense system against pathogens and other foreign substances to the immune system.
We think that the ability of the host defense system depends on the ratio of the defense system's powerfulness to the quantity of toxic substances, which are watched by the host defense system.
The presence of significant quantities of toxic substances in the blood and tissues means that the host defense system is overwhelmed.
Accordingly, minimizing the quantity of toxic substances is very important. The immune system works well in a body with a minimal amount of accumulated toxic material. This therapy activates the host defense system while advancing detoxification. It's characteristic of this therapy.
1, Detoxification of the blood and the tissues (A) Dissolving intestinal toxemia Gastrointestinal tract function is vital to the process of nourishing our body and controlling toxicity through elimination.
Since it is an elimination pathway for toxins, it is important that this pathway is not obstructed. Inefficient colon elimination results in toxin storage instead of removal. Counterbalancing the putrefactive bacteria, which produces endotoxins, is what has been referred to as the beneficial bacteria. Both increasing the number of beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria and markedly decreasing the number of putrefactive bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli is very important for detoxification.
Maintenance of a satisfactory balance of the intestinal flora is achieved by the active intake of dietary fiber of whole grains and vegetables. The bran layer of grains, fruits skins, legumes, seeds, and berries are among the richest source of fiber. The fiber will sweep the walls of the colon removing layers of encrusted and hardenedfaeces, which harbor putrefactive microorganisms. Another merit is that increased fecal bulk and decreased transit time allows less opportunity for fecal mutagens to interact with the intestinal epithelium. Also, consumption of fiber stimulates fermentation in the colon. It is thought that fermentation is probably the key factor in the protective effect of fiber on colon carcinogenesis.
But patients with degenerative diseases suffer on a continual basis, repeating the consequences of the condition's long-term toxic effects, which is caused by an unbalance of the intestinal flora. Unbalance of the intestinal flora should be improved resolutely.
For improvement of intestinal flora, this invention is supplemented with the fermentation product . It is useful for marked increasing beneficial bacteria as probiotics, which is described herein as FERMENTATION PRODUCT in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. V~hen a better balance of the intestinal flora progresses, Intestinal toxemia or autointoxication dissolves gradually.
(B) Detoxification of toxin, especially composite toxin The deposit is put together by toxic materials and is crystallized and hardened throughout the billions of cells all over the body.
For example, the pesticide and the uric acid crystallization are put together. Mold grows on the crystallization in the addition.
This invention emphasize on resolving the composite toxin into a single toxin and stimulating excretion of toxic substances in tissues to peripheral blood and detoxifying them by the liver, kidney, and colon. The liver helps transform many toxic substances into harmless substances, while the blood carries wastes to the kidney; the liver also dumps wastes through bile into the intestines, where much waste is eliminated. The more degree of resolving and detoxifying toxic substances occurs, the more symptoms bring about.
We think that some acute diseases, such as fevers and inflammations, are self-initiated efforts to excrete the accumulated toxins.
These pathways should be addressed, and the proper nutrients with no excess should be provided to ensure a slow, efficient, healthy removal of stored toxins. Almost all the ingredients of the diet including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, trace elements, spices, and dietary fibers play an important role in detoxification and in prevention of oxygen free radical and toxic chemical induced pathogenesis of disease processes. See, Lall et all., "Role of nutrition in toxic injury", Indian Journal of Experimental Biology, 37:109-116(1999).
Furthermore, this therapy is supplemented with natural chlorophyll and medical herb tea for the detoxification.
Chlorophyll has long been used for its anti-inflammatory effect.

It acts to produce an environment to the growth of beneficial bacteria by absorbing poisons within the intestine and promoting normal peristalsis of the bowel. Chlorophyll helps liver detoxification, and reduces carcinogen binding to DNA. Chlorophyll has long been not only used for its blood cleansing but is also known to correct bacteria-scavenging activity in the blood. It supports structures in the outer membranes of body cells and can help optimize oxygen in the body. It helps support the circulatory, digestive, respiratory, and immune systems. Also, historically, It was used to stimulate blood cell formation in anemia. Chlorophyll is indispensable in this treatment . The medicinal herb tea has the effect to promote excretion of a toxin.
2, Dissolving immune malfunction When toxins are accumulated all over the body, this will then increase the workload of the immune system, which will become overloaded and irritated. The immune system will then produce excessive inflammatory chemicals, and in some cases, autoantibodies, because it is in a hyperstimulated state. This may lead to symptoms of immune malfunction such as allergies, autoimmune disorders. The most important point to take the load off the immune system is to advance the detoxification.
Another point is avoiding a hypoallergenic diet, which is cow's milk, eggs, and wheat. Cow's milk and wheat are two of the greatest catarrh-producing foods. They are common allergens and often provoke an immune system response, the result of which is a catarrhal condition. Catarrh overloads the five main elimination channels of the body. When the elimination systems are overburdened, the result is a buildup of toxic material . The protein (avidin) in white eggs is put together with biotin in the intestine and it disturbs the absorption of biotin and causes biotin deficiency disease.
Ovalbumin in white eggs causes an allergy.
These foods are avoided, prescribed in the dietary restriction in the method of this invention. Generally said, cow's milk is a good source of calcium and protein. Soybean milk has high quality protein and calcium, which can be substituted for cow's milk.
Another option is seaweed such as Wakame or Konbu, which include abundant calcium and other minerals. Excellent substitutes of wheat include rye, millet, corn, and rice, which do not contain gluten and are high in nutritional value.
3, Fortifying initial defense system and enhancement of immune system We regard the next three points as important . The first important thing is keeping the mucosal immune system of the intestine strong and protective, which is the biggest immunity organ in the human body. The second important thing is fortifying the immune system by nutrition. Nutrients play an important role in the development and functionality of immunocomponent cells. The third important thing is to activate NK cell, killer T cell, and macrophage of the immune system by BRM (Biological Response Modifier) in food.
(a) Fortifying initial defense system by healing the intestinal lining Initial defense system refers to the first line of immune defense.
The lining of our intestine is meant not only to absorb food, but also to act as a barrier to keep out invading pathogens . The mucosal layer of a healthy gut filters out microorganisms and undigested proteins. Aside from the physical barrier to invading pathogens, the intestinal lining makes up a major part of our immune system by furnishing secretory IgA and white blood cells to prevent an infection of pathogenic bacteria. When this lining gets battered, by free radicals, pathogenic bacteria, endotoxins, and/or environmental toxins, the lining loses its integrity. We refer to this loss of integrity as "the leaky gut syndrome".
This is when the door is open to let in the bacteria; the viruses, and the parasites, which can activate the immune system (and also the autoimmune system). The inflammation that is caused by food allergies can increase the permeability of the intestinal lining even further.
As mentioned above, increasing the number of beneficial bacteria in intestinal flora is achieved by an active intake of dietary fiber of whole grains and vegetables. Those increasing, glutamine, arginine, nucleic acid, and omega-3 fatty acid help to maintain and fortify the integrity of the intestinal lining for protecting the immune barrier of the gut. The balanced intestinal flora not only elaborates important metabolicfunctions but is also necessary to maintain the physiological architecture and function of the intestine.
Glutamine and arginine are nonessential amino acids, being produced to a large extent by the kidneys. Omega-3 fatty acid is rich in brown rice, soybean, and Japanese millet herein. Glutamine is the main fuel that the intestinal cells need for maintenance and repair. See, Hulsewe et all . , "Nutritional Depletion and Dietary Manipulation: Effect on the Immune Response", World Journal of Surgery, 23:536-544(1999).
The leaky gut syndrome creates an imbalanced immune system. We can correct this loss of integrity and reestablish a balanced and vigorous immune attack on the degenerative diseases through the method of this invention.
(b) Enhancement of immune response by taking vitamins and minerals It might be essential to have an adequate intake of some vitamins and minerals to enhance immune response, which are described herein as NUTRITION AND IMMUNE SYSTEM in BACKGROUND.
In this therapy, germ fraction of whole grains and legumes become the main source of vitamins and minerals mentioned above. This therapy replenishes vitamins and minerals mentioned above using a wheat germ product as a supporting food for early recovering of the patient with degenerative diseases.
(c) Immune system activation by BRM (Biological Response Modifier) in food A growing body of clinical and experimental evidence demonstrates the importance of natural killer (NK) cells as anti-tumor agents among a variety of cellular and humoral factors . NK cells have been identified as a major component of the host immune defense system involved in immunosurveillance against cancer. The NK system is usually impaired in cancer patients, especially in those with advanced disease. The response is also compromised by chemotherapy and radiation. BRMs are currently receiving attention as a major treatment modality in the management of cancer patients . BRMs can offer new immuno-therapeutic approaches to cancer by increasing host anti-tumor response through augmentation of NK cell activity.
Arabinoxylane from rice bran seems to act as a potent immuno-modulator causing augmentation of NK cell activity, and with the absence of notable side-effects, it could be used as a new BPM having possible therapeutic effects against cancer, reported by Ghoneum, "ENHANCEMENT OF HUMAN NATURAL KILLER CELL ACTIVITY BY MODIFIED
ARABINOXYLANE FROM RICE BRAN (MGN-3)", International journal of immunotherapy 14(2):89-99(1998).
MCM is Marina Crystal Minerals, a crystallized mixture of minerals and trace elements from seawater, which is originally separated from sodium chloride. MCM significantly enhanced NK activity (2-fold increase over baseline value). It's eight-fold increase in the production of interferon-gamma postculture of PBL with MCM.
The high augmentory effect of MCM and the absence of notable side effects make this material a promising immunotherapeutic agent for treating cancer patients, reported by Ghoneum, "IMMUNOMODULATION
OF HUMAN NK CELL ACTIVITY BY MARINA CRYSTAL MINERALS (MCM) , A

CRYSTALLIZED MIXTURE OF MINERALS AND TRACE ELEMENTS FROM SEA WATER" , Nutrition Research, 19(9):1287-1298(1999).
Marine minerals and f fiber of rice bran modulate the immune system causing augmentation of NK cell activity. In this therapy, brown rice and a wheat germ product (including seaweed) become sources of the minerals and fiber mentioned above.
TREATING CANCER USING THIS INVENTION
The method is described herein as SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION. Again, let' s explain the method from the viewpoint of preventing ( including recurrences and metastases) and treating cancer. Dietary restriction is aimed at preventing tumor progress. The nutritional product of this invention is aimed at tumor regression and disappearance. In case of treating advanced cancer, the proportion of the main diet increases . In case of patients with stage 4 cancer, the diet consists of almost completely the main diet, the very little side dishes, soup, oral supplementation, and medical herb tea.
"Dietary restriction for preventing tumor progress" is further described. First, avoiding meats, chicken, and other fowls is described. Discussed above herein as TOXINS AND DETOXIFICATION in BACKGROUND, the ingesting of meat, chicken, and other fowl lead to an increase in putrefactive substances formed by the increased harmful bacteria. Also, according to reports of many researchers, red meat consumption is an important factor in the nutritional etiology of human cancer. Secondly, avoiding eggs and cow's milk is described. Discussed above herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE

SYSTEM in DETAILED DESCRIPTION, they are common allergens and often provoke an immune system response. The immunoglobulins that instigate allergies will depress the production of cancer-killing immune factors, like natural killer cells and tumor necrosis factor.
Allergies create an imbalanced immune system.
Thirdly, avoiding sugars, sweet foods, and refined foods is described. We have shifted from complex carbohydrate, such as whole grains, to simple sugars such as refined cane, beet sugar, and corn syrup. Simple sugars are metabolized quickly. Blood glucose increases rapidly. To compensate for this, the pancreas secretes insulin. The literature clearly points toward a substantial increase in glucose metabolism with the onset of cancer. An interaction between the hormone estrogen and insulin may encourage the growth and proliferation of breast cancer cells. An elevated level of visceral adipose tissue has been linked to colorectal cancer. Since insulin production greatly increases in response to dietary sugars, cancer patients should avoid sugars, sweet foods, or refined foods that unnecessarily increase insulin production.
Sugar has a number of ways in which it promotes cancer. Cancer cells demonstrates a 3 to 5-fold increase in glucose uptake compared to healthy cells . Cancer thrives on glucose while also initiating gluconeogenesis and insulin resistance. Tumors are "obligate glucose metabolizers," meaning they must feed on sugar. See, Rothkopf, "Fuel Utilization in Neoplastic Disease: Implications for the Use of Nutritional Support in Cancer Patients" , Nutrition, 6(4): 14S-16S (1990).
A diet that is rich in whole grains and vegetables can help stabilize blood glucose and minimize the desire for sugar because the complex carbohydrate of those foods enters the bloodstream S considerably more slowly of ter being broken down into smaller units .
Unnecessarily jump of insulin production is not generated.
"Nutritional product for tumor regression" is a momentous point in cancer therapy of this invention. With the effect of detoxification and enhancement of host defense system, cancer begins regression, coupled with the dietary restriction. Connection between nutritional products and the host defense system is referred to herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE SYSTEM in DETAILED
DESCRIPTION.
Then, the effect of this therapy is discussed in the different viewpoint. In Quillin's idem at pages 5-8, he stated that nutrition help reverse cancer by changing the underlying causes of cancer.
The underlying causes are lacking oxygen, sugar feeding, immune suppression, toxin overload, abnormal pH, maldigestion, parasites, and allergies.
First, "lacking oxygen" and "sugar feeding" is discussed. Cancer cells are anaerobic sugar feeders, while healthy cells are aerobic (oxygen-requiring) cells that can burn sugar, protein or fats. The more dense and anaerobic the mass of cancer, the more resistant it is to conventional treatment. Nutrient factors that heavily influence aerobic metabolism include Vitamin B groups and Coenzyme Q-10, which are sufficiently involved in the grains-legumes mixture of this invention.
In order to reverse cancer, one must make the body a well-oxygenated aerobic organism according to the detoxification. As a body becomes increasingly in a toxic state, proper oxygenation cannot take place referred to herein as TOXINS AND DETOXIFICATION
in BACKGROUND. Vrhen the detoxification advances, proper oxygenation regains in the tissues. An interaction between sugar and cancer is mentioned above.
Next, "immune suppression" , "toxin overload" , and "allergies" is discussed. Many cancer patients are immunosuppressed either as a result of the cancer or of previous treatments . "Immune suppression"
and "Toxin overload" are perfectly dissolved through the product of this invention referred to herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE
SYSTEM in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. "Allergies" is described in this chapter.
Next, "abnormal pH" is discussed. Cancer is acidic (low pH) tissue.
Cancer changes in the pH, or acid balance, making the environment more favorable for cancer growth and less favorable for host recovery. Normal adult humans eating Western diets have chronic, low-grade metabolic acidosis, the severity of which is determined in part by the net rate of endogenous noncarbonic acid production (NEAP) , which varies with diet. Generally said, plant foods elevate pH, animal foods and sugar reduce pH. Nutritional products of this invention are almost all plant sources and the lower net acid production.
Next, "maldigestion" and "parasites" is discussed. Maldigestion almost always comes from dysfunction of stomach, intestine, liver, and pancreas. As the treatment of gastrointestinal disease, liver disease, and pancreatitis through the method of this invention is discussed later, maldigestion is dissolved by treating these diseases . Most of us have intestinal parasites . This invention is supplemented with the fermentation product, which is useful for marked increasing of beneficial bacteria, and medical herb tea, which is useful for detoxification. Both supplements have de-worming effects. Consequently, the method and nutritional products of this invention have proficiency in changing all the underlying causes of cancer.
Finally, progress of detoxification and symptom of tumor regression is described. From 1 month to 3 months later of this therapy taking, Both sign of detoxification and tumor regression begin to appear.Detoxification producessymptomssuch asheadaches, fatigue, irritability, or aches and pains . Any symptoms that have previously been experienced also may be experienced transiently during detoxification.
Cancer patients realize that tumor regression result through symptoms such as extinction of intense pain characteristic of advanced stage cancer. The tumor gradually degenerates. In this way cancer patient experiences recovery of physical condition by tumor regression and aggravation of physical condition by detoxification.
TREATING BENIGN TUMOR USING THIS INVENTION
The reason why a benign tumor degenerates is almost equal to the reason described in cancer. However, the time until the benign tumor perfectly disappears is shorter than that of cancer. In the usual case, the benign tumor perfectly disappears within in one year.
In case of good responders, it fades away within three months.
TREATING LIVER DISEASE USING THIS INVENTION
The effect of the method of this invention is discussed in detail.
It has been reported by Cabot's idem at pages 82-84 that the nutritional and herbal therapy of treating "hepatitis" is as follows:
1. Follow the vital Principles how to have a healthy liver: (1) nutrition from plant sources, and (2) keeping bowels moving.
2. It is vital to eat foods rich in natural sulfur containing compounds such as onions and cruciferous vegetables.
3. Drink raw fresh vegetable and fruit juice.
4. Increase consumption of essential fatty acids.
5. A liver tonic is vital to support the detoxification pathways in the liver, thereby helping the liver to break down toxic chemicals .
These are Glutamine, Glycine, Taurine, Cysteine, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B group, Inositol, Lecithin, Zinc, Cruciferous Vegetables, and Green Tea. This will reduce the damage that toxins can inflict upon liver cells.
6. The mineral selenium and Vitamin C will support the immune system and reduce the ability of the liver viruses to replicate.
The nutritional and herbal therapy of reducing "cirrhosis of the liver" includes: (1) increasing antioxidants, which neutralizefree radicals; (2) taking a liver tonic mentioned above; (3) minimizing the use of all medications; (4) obtaining the protein by combining grains, raw nuts, raw seeds, sprouts and legumes instead of animal protein; (5) avoiding constipation by consuming fiber; and (6) drinking at least two liters of water daily to increase excretion of toxins through the kidneys . The medication refers to liver toxins such as alcohol, analgesic drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics. Dietary fiber will speed the passage of toxins out of the bowels and reduce the ability of these toxins to recirculate back to the liver. See, Cabot's idem at pages 73-77.
The nutritional and herbal therapy of treating "fatty liver" and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by idem is following the principles how to have a healthy liver and taking the liver tonic mentioned above . I t can take between 3 to 12 months , depending upon the amount of fat deposited in the liver, to remove the excess fat from the liver. The nutritional product of this invention supplies good protein and fat, sufficient contents of fiber, antioxidant vitamins and minerals shown by the nutritional and herbal therapy for liver diseases mentioned above. It also supplies sufficient contents of Glutamine, Glycine, Cysteine, Vitamin E, Vitamin B groups, and Zinc shown by liver tonic mentioned above. Also, the method of this invention agrees well with the approach of Cabot' s nutritional and herbal therapy.
This invention emphasize on resolving composite toxin into a single toxin and stimulating excretion of toxic substances in tissues to periphery blood and detoxifying them by liver, kidney, and colon referred to herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE SYSTEM
in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. So, this diet of this invention reduces the toxic load upon the liver gradually. Natural chlorophyll of this invention acts as both a liver tonic and a liver cleanser.
Artemisia capillaris Thunb. and Lycium chinense in Medical herb tea of this invention works on the liver. In many patients drugs can be avoided through the use of this diet, although in some acute problems drug therapy will be necessary and the method of this invention can be used in combination with drug therapy.
The liver is unique among the visceral organs for its ability to regenerate its entire cell mass approximately every 50 days. For this point, Liver disease is cured by this treatment easily. l~Ve have many patients with signs and symptoms of liver disease who have been able to regenerate their liver cells and reverse liver disease with the Diet and supplement of this invention. The effect of this invention is shown later as Patient A5, A7, andAl4 of example 1, and Patient C1 and C2 of example 3.
TREATING CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES USING THIS INVENTION
In these diseases, drug therapy will be necessary and the method of this invention can be used in combination with drug therapy.
In some acute problems the medicine, which soften the symptom, is necessary for these diseases. But, Drugs such as cholesterol-lowering drugs can be avoided through the use of this method. There are a number of cholesterol-lowering drugs, which have serious side effects. The method of this invention is so much safer and in most cases more effective in the long term. We think the fundamental conditioning factor in all heart diseases is the diet.
Our methods are compared with existing recommendations of diet on this disease. Successful prevention of cardiovascular disease is changing the Step I Diet recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) . The more restrictive Step II Diet is for patients with high cholesterol levels or known arterial disease. The Step II Diet of AHA comprises: (1) the proportion of carbohydrate, protein, and fat on caloric basis is 55-60~, 15~, and 30~, respectively; (2) the proportion of saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fat on caloric basis is less than 7~, up to 15~, up to 10~, respectively; and (3) Less than 200 milligrams of dietary cholesterol a day. In Ornish, "Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for reversing heart disease", pages 244-263,IVY books, New York(1996), the Reversal diet comprises: (1) the proportion of carbohydrate, protein, and fat on caloric basis is 70-75~, 15-20~, and 10~, respectively; (2) 5 milligrams cholesterol per day;
and (3) the fat should be taken from mostly polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fat.
The diet of this invention coincides with the condition of The Step II Diet (AHA) and Reversal Diet (Ornish) perfectly, referred to herein as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
Namely, the proportions of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat of this invention on caloric basis is about 75, 15, and 10~, respectively.
Over 80~ of the fat comes from polyunsaturated or monounsaturated S fat. Furthermore, it includes no cholesterol. The diet of this invention can, in many cases, reverse the degenerative changes that have occurred in the heart and blood vessels.
The next 3 points are essential to treat heart diseases fundamentally:
l.Improving liver function;
The liver is the supreme fat-burning organ. If the liver filter is damaged, it will be less able to remove small fat globules circulating in the blood stream. This will cause excessive fat to build up in the blood vessel walls.
2. Efficient removing cholesterol; and If the diet is low in fiber, some of the fats (especially cholesterol ) that have been pumped by the liver into the gut through the bile will recirculate back to the liver. This occurs via the entero-hepatic circulation. A high fiber diet will reduce the recirculation of fat from the gut back to the liver.
3. Satisfactory ability of manufacturing HDLs.
If the liver is dysfunctional, it will not manufacture adequate amounts of the good cholesterol (HDL), which travels out of the liver to scavenge the unhealthy cholesterol (LDL) from the blood vessel walls. If the liver does not manufacture sufficient HDLs, blood cholesterol levels will rise which can form fatty plaque, lining the blood vessel walls.
See Cabot's idem at pages 36-38. In short, it becomes the most significant that we must restore and strengthen the function of the liver for reversing cardiovascular diseases . The method of this invention can reverse heart disease, because it will fortify the function of the liver, described herein as TREATING LIVER DISEASE
USING THIS INVENTION.
Furthermore, pharmacological properties of grains are described referred to here in as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED
DESCRIPTION. Rice has a long history as a treatment for severe high blood pressure. Rice put a stop to cholesterol synthesis. To eat soybean products can improve high blood cholesterol and help reverse damage already done to arteries.
Besides, this invention emphasizes on detoxification of the blood and the tissues referred to herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE
SYSTEM. By the detoxification, Proper oxygenation and cell-to-cell communication can take place in the tissue again. So, this diet of this invention reduces the toxic load upon the heart and the coronary arteries gradually. As the result, the cardiovascular system regains normal function gradually.
TREATING KIDNEY DISEASE USING THIS INVENTION
The grains-legumes mixture is a well-planed mixture, which supplies sufficient essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements without toxic load upon the liver and kidney. It is aimed at not slowing the progression of renal failure but treating this disease.
From pharmacological properties of grains are described referred to here in as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
Rice has been used to treat kidney problems for a long time . Pearl burley is called another name Coix. This grain is well-used in formulas of Chinese herbal medicine that promote urination, treat edema and arthritislike pain, reduce diarrhea, and assist digestion.
Next, adzuki beans, which is a kind of soybean. This bean has been used to treat edema and kidney diseases in a long established custom in Japan. Natural chlorophyll of this invention contains abundant vitamin K, which supports optimal kidney function. In addition, medical herb tea of this invention includes Houttuynia cordata ( leaf ) , Glechoma hederacea var. grandis ( leaf ) and Lycium chinense (leaf) in Medical herb tea. These herbs are used to treat diseases of the kidney or to improve kidney function. Furthermore, this diet and supplement of this invention remarkably reduces the burden to the kidney that is a part of the detoxification organ, because the detoxification is remarkably promoted by this invention mentioned above. Kidney disease is treated by these elements, which synthetically and/or synergistically affect the kidney.
TREATING PANCREATITIS USING THIS INVENTION
It has also been reported by Cabot's idem at pages 150 that the nutritional therapy of treating Pancreatitis is as follows:
1. Small frequent meals are better than large meals;

2. Follow the vital principles how to have a healthy liver;
3. Avoid alcohol, fatty foods, fried foods and refined sugars;
4. Avoid unnecessary drugs and painkillers; and 5. Take vitamin C and E, magnesium, digestive enzymes and a good liver tonic.
The diet and supplement of this invention supply macro- and micronutrients from plant sources including antioxidant vitamins and minerals, various nutrients shown by liver tonic, and digestive enzymes from a fermentation product . The method of this invention accords well with the approach of the nutritional therapy above.
TREATING TYPE II DIABETES MELLITUS USING THIS INVENTION
It has also been reported by Cabot's idem at pages 151-154 that the nutritional therapy of treating diabetes is as follows:
l.Follow a high fiber diet;
2 . Eat plenty of raw vegetables, as this will improve liver function;
3.Use complex carbohydrates in order to stabilize blood sugar levels;
4.Avoid refined carbohydrates;
5 . Ensure that you eat foods containing essential fatty acids, which are vitally important for diabetics, as they will reduce the risk of diabetic neuropathy;
6 . Drink plenty of water and if desired herbal teas and herbal coffee;
7.Avoid a high intake of animal fats; and 8.Some helpful Supplements for Diabetics are Vitamin E and C, minerals such as chromium, selenium, zinc, manganese andmagnesium, and Vitamin B complex that helps glucose metabolism and peripheral nerves.
The nutritional products of this invention provide sufficient amounts of highfiber, complex carbohydrate, essentialfatty acids, vitamin E, minerals, and vitamin B groups to treat the diabetes mentioned above, which are mainly from the mixture of grain and beans. Furthermore, the method describes avoiding refined carbohydrates and animal fats . The method of this invention accords well with the approach of the nutritional therapy.
Now, we return to "Nutritional principles for the management of diabetes and related complications", referred herein as DIABETES
MELLITUS in BACKGROUD.
The first nutritional principle is maintenance of near-normal blood glucose levels. The grains-legumes mixture of this invention can help stabilize blood glucose, especially brown rice and soybean, referred to herein as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED
DESCRIPTION.
The second nutritional principle is achievement of optimum serum lipid levels. It is essential for treating this disease to strengthen the function of the liver. The liver is the fat burning organ and regulates fat metabolism. Liver dysfunction is common which can cause unstable blood sugar levels. The method and nutritional products of this invention help enhance liver function remarkably referred here in as TREATING LIVER DISEASE USING THIS
INVENTION.

The third nutritional principle is provision of adequate energy.
As the order is disregarded, the sixth principle is improvement in overall health. In the method of this invention, you do not have to count calories, unlike other nutritional therapies of diabetes.
If you feel hungry, you can eat more of the diet of this invention until you are satisfied. It has been designed to supply only the nutrients really required for the human body. So calorie restriction is not necessary.
The fourth and fifth principles are prevention and treatment of acute and long-term complications of diabetes such as renal disease and cardiovascular disease. Diabetes mellitus seriously increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The methods and nutritional products of this invention is prime for treating diabetes in the new point, which are preventing and/or treating liver, kidney and cardiovascular disease, pancreatitis using the same methods in the same individual, simultaneously. The treatment of each disease is described herein in each section. But, in some acute problems drug therapy will be necessary and the method of this invention can be used simultaneously. The method and nutritional products of this invention can satisfy almost all the six conditions that ADA recommended in 1994.
TREATING AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS USING THIS INVENTION
The liver cells (hepatocytes) are extremely busy making sure that proteins and other foods are fully broken down before they find their way into our general circulation. If the liver is not an effective barrier, toxins and incompletely digested foods find their way into our blood stream and are carried deeper into the body where they must then be dealt with by the immune system. These toxins can then damage the cells of other body organs and the immune system and inflammation in its many forms can begin. So we can see that although the Immune system protects our body from many dangers, it is the liver that protects the Immune system from overload.
Problems that are caused by an imbalance in the immune system will always, and often dramatically, improve with a diet and supplement of this invention that cleanses and improves the function of the liver shown by the method for treating liver diseases mentioned above. So, we can cure autoimmune disorders through the nutritional products and the methods of this invention.
TREATING GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES USING THIS INVENTION
Gastrointestinal diseases are prevented and/or treated by the method of this invention through the detoxification and enhancing the host defense system. The effect of this therapy is discussed in the different viewpoint . The problems of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Constipation, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's disease, and offensive gas and wind, often all share these common factors to a varying degree. It has also been reported by Cabot's idem at pages 105-110 that strategies to help all types of bowel disorders are as follows l.Maintain a Healthy Population of Microorganisms in your Bowel;
2. Improve Dietary Habits;
Many people lack fiber because they eat refined sugars and carbohydrates, and too much animal meat and dairy products.
3. Improve Digestion and Absorption of Nutrients from Food.
The diet and supplement of this invention, which includes sufficient contents of dietary fiber, a fermentation product as S probiotics, has improving intestinal flora mentioned referred to herein as ENHANCEMENT OF HOST DEFENSE SYSTEM and FERMENTATION
PRODUCT in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. Currently, the predominant view is that control of colonic ecology by manipulating bacteria or bacterial metabolism has some benefit in controlling colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease reported by Szilagyi, "Altered colonic environment, a possible predisposition to colorectal cancer and colonic inflammatory bowel disease", Can.
J. Gastroenterol, 12(2):133-146(1998).
Pharmacological properties of grains are described referred to here in as MAIN DIET AND SIDE DISHES in DETAILED DESCRIPTION. Burley helps ward off constipation and digestive troubles. Pearl barley works as an anti-inflammatory. Buckwheat works on the stomach and bowel.
The chlorophyll, which is a part of the supplement of this invention, has the effect that improves the inflammation of gastric ulcer and bowel. Historically, chlorophyll was used for gastrointestinal problems such as constipation. Houttuynia cordata in medical herb tea has the effect of cleansing of a colon by removing feces adhered to a colon wall. Artemisia capillaris Thunb. in medical herb tea works on the stomach. It is considered that gastrointestinal disease can be treated by such effects producing a synergistic result.
TREATING COMBINED DISEASE
Treating combined degenerative diseases by the one method was absolutely impossible with current knowledge. Each organ system has requirements or deficiencies that are either satisfied or exacerbated, respectively, by a particular nutritional solution.
In other words, there is one nutritional therapy for one disease.
Therefore, it is large in number that it can not be treated by one nutritional therapy when multiple diseases have been developed simultaneously. For example, combined liver and renal failure presents a difficult dilemma.
However, the contradiction does not occur if it is considered from the viewpoint of detoxification and enhancing the host defense system, which are described above. It is a key point to remove stored toxins and to dissolve malfunction of the tissues in the body caused by stored toxins. Only the method of this invention may achieve efficient removal of stored toxins while activating the host defense system.
EXAMPLE
Seishi Satoh who is a cooperator of this invention is a pharmacist specialized in Chinese herbal medicine. He has been making up this medicine over a 30-year period toward patients with cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, allergy, liver disease, renal disease, and so on, with the consultation how to select foods with the supplements of this invention, which is our original idea. These consultation charges are free. These diseases cannot be treated fundamentally by conventional treatment alone. Thus, in all examples herein, patients have undergone the consultation, which is the same method of this invention. They have visited the hospital for the confirmation of the effect, and the necessary inspection and/or conventional therapy has been undergone in the hospital, because a pharmacist can not treat the disease by Japanese law.
The term "treatment" or "treat" in all examples herein means consultation at his pharmacy and confirmation at another hospital in Japan. All the study patients signed a statement of informed consent, allowed us to use their records for research and publication purposes . Now, the age in the example was shown as the age when visiting the pharmacy for the first time.

The 186 patients who satisfied the next criteria of study design from the patients who came in the interval from April 1988 by October 1999 in our pharmacy were selected. The criteria is as follows:
1) They must have been diagnosed with biopsyproven carcinoma by physicians; 2) They can eat three meals per day, since the program is done at home; and 3) They must be willing to comply with the protocol and to continue at least 3 months. We estimated patient compliance during our office visits and by phone.
This example sought to evaluate rates of overall survival towards the patients with stage 1-4 and to evaluate rates of local recurrence and distant metastasis towards cancer patients with stage 1-3.
Recurred rates were calculated by the limitation to the patients who finished the primary cancer treatment. 7 patients were omitted, who died of stage 2 and 3 cancer ( liver and lung cancer) under the treatment in combination with conventional therapy plus this protocol. Staging refers to the determination of the extent of cancer. These three rates were estimated according to the Kaplan-Meier method.
The outlines of 186 patients were as follows. There were 180 patients who suffered cancer that staging were shown. There were 6 patients who suffered cancer that staging were not shown. Staging refers to the determination of the extent of cancer. The types of cancer among the 6 patients with non-staging cancer were: 2 intraocular retinoblastoma, 2 chronic myelogenous leukemia, 1 childhood acute myeloid leukemia, and 1 metastatic osteosarcoma.
Table 1 shows patient characteristics. Stage 1 cancers are small-localized cancers, while stage 4 usually represents inoperable or metastatic cancer. Stage 2 and 3 cancers are usually locally advanced and/or with involvement of local lymph nodes.
Actually, these stages are defined precisely, but the definition is different for each kind of cancer. The number of the patients with stage 1, 2, 3, 4 was 27, 36, 38 and 79, respectively. The number of the female patient was more abounding than the number of the male patient, especially stage 1 patients. Average age of the patients and mean follow-up period was about 50 years and about 2 years, respectively. 4 patients with stage 1 cancer refused conventional therapy by their personal reasons. 4 patients with stage 2, 12 patients with stage 3, and 18 patients with stage 4 cancer were medically impossible on the surgery from the beginning of the treatment. The other patients underwent conventional therapy in Japan.
Table 2 shows histologic type of carcinoma among 180 patients.
Breast cancer, colorectal cancer, endometetrial cancer, gastric cancer, primary liver cancer and lung cancer was major carcinoma in 180 patients. The number of patients with stagel, 2, 3, and 4 cancer who died were 3, 5, 10, and 38, respectively. The number of patients with stagel, 2 , 3 , and 4 cancer who died of cancer were 0, 1, 6, and 36, respectively. The others died of other disease.

Preventing recurrence or metastases is very important for cancer treatment because the survival rate for recurring cancers is only about 5 percent. The 5-year local recurrence rates for cancer patients with stage 1, 2, and 3 were all 0~, who were treated with this invention. Also, the 5-year metastatic recurrence rates for the cancer patients with stage 1, 2, and 3 were 0, 0, and 2.7 ~, respectively. 1 patient with stage 3 liver cancer found distant metastasis after 6months from the beginning of this protocol . We don' t know whether distant metastasis occurred before the start of the program or after it. According to the literature, 7~ and 8.5~ of patients with stagel breast cancer will have local recurrence and distant metastasis after first treatment for five years, respectively. The local recurrence rate for rectal cancer differs enormously in the literature from 5~ to 50~. These rates are different for each kind of cancer and the stage.
As the stage advances, these ratios become high. Compared with the values of the literatures, the 5-year local recurrence rates and the 5-year metastatic recurrence rates for the patients with this invention were far more descending than those achieved by patients who received conventional therapy alone.
Secondly, The rate of overall survival rates was identified. Fig.
1 shows overall survival Kaplan-Meier curves by stages. All the survival rates were calculated as of 31 March 2000.The mark in the f figure shows that the observation is censored as of the same date .

The 3- and 5-year overall survival rates were, respectively: stage 1 cancer 96~ and 87~, stage 2 cancer 92~ and 81~, stage 3 cancer 76~ and 69~, and stage 4 cancer 56~ and 41~.
The 5-year overall survival rate for the stage 4 cancer patients with this invention was compared with the data of "SEER Cancer Statistics Review, 1973-1997, National Cancer Institute, United States". As stage 4 cancer represents inoperable or hard to be treated, it leads to excluding the effect of the various conventional treatments. So, it becomes possible that the effect only of this therapy is judged by the survival rates for stage 4.
5-year relative survival rates for colon and rectal, gastric, breast, lung, endometetrial, liver, renal cell, and ovarian cancer with stage 4 were 8.5~, 2.2~, 21.9, 2.2~, 27.3, 1.8~, 9.6~, 27.7, respectively. The weighted mean of each value based on the rates of each type of stage 4 cancer mentioned above is calculated for 9.5~. For the calculation of the survival rate in this case, the histologic type which showed that the number of cancer was 2 persons or less was disregarded. 41~ for the 5-year overall survival rates for patients of stage 4 cancer with this invention showed about 4 times higher as compared with 9 . 5 ~ for those weighted mean value.
Fig. 2 shows overall survival Kaplan-Meier curves on some stage 4 cancer. The overall 5-year survival rates of gastric, colon and rectal, and breast cancer for stage 4 with this invention were 70~, 34~, 45~, respectively. Each value shows about each 10 times, 4 times, and 2 times higher than the value of the 5-year relative survival rates reported in the Statistics Review. But, strictly speaking, overall survival rate, which is calculated based on the number of all the kind of death, is not comparable to relative survival rate, because the former is generally lower than the latter.
Thus, the 5-year survival rates for the patients with this treatment far exceeded those achieved by patients who received conventional therapy alone. 21 patients (27~ of total stage 4 cancer) with stage 4 cancer have confirmed the disappearance of tumors by the results that the numeral of tumor marker test remarkably dropped and consisted in normal-range and that the tumor disappeared by the test of a biopsy and the imaging procedures such as X-rays and MRI .
In the case of good responders, those results have gained within two years . They regained their health and have come back to their daily work.
Next, we describe 6 patients who suffered cancer that staging was not shown. 5 patients among the 6 patients are alive as of 31 March 2000 . The patient with the metastatic osteosarcoma, which is a bone tumor, died. Distant metastasis had occurred to both lungs and had undergone surgery to remove lung metastases before visiting our pharmacy. Some other patients are described in detail.

The result of the retest in another hospital was also similar. All the grandparents and parents have died of cancer. She was first seen in the pharmacy in October 1996. She kept the program of this invention without other therapy. As results of endometrial biopsy after 5 months, 7months, and 9 months passed, she was diagnosed as "moderate dysplasia", "normal", and "normal", respectively. She has no local recurrence and distant metastasis, and is living fine.
45 months have passed from diagnosis as of 31 March 2000.

Patient A7: Patient A7 was a 52-year-old male. It was diagnosed that he had stage 2 adult primary liver cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, and type II diabetes mellitus in March 1999, simultaneously.
His ALT was 154U/L. His fasting plasma glucose was 183mg/dL. He had to take insulin injections (8 units) once a day. The doctor pronounced that his life expectancy would be 1-year and a half.
He was first seen in the pharmacy in April 1999. He kept the program of this invention faithfully With Ginseng and Tang Gui Ten Formula in Chinese herbal medicine. As a result of blood tests after 8 months passed, his fasting plasma glucose and ALT was 112mg/dL, 122U/L, respectively. The glucose level dropped, and the liver function was improved. Results of the CAT scan, echogram in liver, and tumor markers test after 2 more months passed showed objective tumor regression. He lives more finely than before. 12 months have passed from diagnosis as of 31 March 2000.
Patient A8: Patient A8 was a 56-year-old male. It was diagnosed that he had stage 2 adult primary liver cancer in February 1990.

Patient A12: Patient A12 was a 54-year-old female. It was diagnosed that she had stage 4 gastric cancer in July 1997. The distant metastasis occurred in the whole-body such as large bowel, mammary gland, breast, and neck. The doctor of the National Cancer Institute in Japan said that the chemotherapy didn't work any more and to keep on taking chemotherapy would lead to death from side effects. The doctor pronounced that her life expectancy would be only one month. Her treatment options had run out. She was first seen in the pharmacy in October 1998. She kept the program of this invention with Ginseng and Tang Gui Ten Formula in Chinese Herbal Medicine faithfully. After 2 months passed, the cancer began to disappear. After 3 more months passed, the cancer of the whole-body became vigorously small and disappeared. Her ascites faded out in the same time. Her body condition vigorously improved. After more 2 months passed, the tumor on the whole body repeated fading away and coming out mutually. Such condition followed about 4 months.
Afterwards, she rapidly recovered her health, and she returned to work. 31 months have passed from diagnosis as of 31 March 2000.
Next, we describe the example that raised the remarkable effects in combination with conventional cancer therapy.
Patient A13 : Patient A13 was a 63-year-old female. She was treated with surgery of stage 1 colorectal cancer in May 1993. Since it was found that her cancer spread from the colon to the liver in December 1993 , she underwent the surgery to remove liver metastases .
She visited the pharmacy for the first time in January 1994. But, the doctor said that the liver metastases would cause death and that his life expectancy would be only 3 months . He visited the pharmacy for the first time in August 1992. He has been keeping the program of this invention faithfully. Results of the CAT scan and tumor markers tes t of ter l4months , 3 years , 5 years , and 7 years showed prominent tumor regression and no sign of local recurrence and distant metastasis of cancer. He returned to work. He is doing well. 92 months have passed from diagnosis as of 31 March 2000.
Thus, the tumor itself disappears within one or two years, in combination with or without conventional cancer therapy. In usual cases, the entire cancer cell may disappear in the human body within 3 years. In the case of good responders, it may be cured within one year. As the features of this therapy, the cancer patients have almost no local recurrence and distant metastases.
When the tumors have perfectly disappeared, almost all patients have come back to normal conditions and functions. The patients who are healthier than before are large in number even if they are patients with advanced stage cancer. They are doing well with continuing the method of this therapy.
Furthermore, this therapy can treat cancer and other diseases such as hepatitis, diabetes mellitus in the same individual simultaneously.

Patient B1: Patient B1 was a 65-year-old female. Her colorectal polyps were removed by a colonscopy when she was 63 years old. The recurrence of polyps occurred the next year . The polyps were removed by a colonscopy. Furthermore, the recurrence of polyps occurred the year after the next. It was diagnosed that she had multiple adenomatous polyps in the colon. She rejected removing the polyps by colonscopy because she felt that the polyps had a chance of being cancerous. She visited the pharmacy in April 1997. She kept the program of this invention faithfully and perfectly. As a result of inspection after 4 months passed, the polyps had completely faded away. She didn't have recurrence of the polyps as of 31 March 2000, with the support of the method of this invention.
Patient B2 : Patient B2 was a 64-year-old female . It was diagnosed that she had hepatic multiple adenomatous polyps, which could not be removed by surgery. The ALT activity of the blood test, which is specific for liver damage, was 82 U/L. She visited the pharmacy in October 1998. She kept the program of this invention completely.
As a result of inspection after 14 months passed, the polyps had completely faded away. The ALT activity of the blood test at the same time was 42 U/L, which was in the no
