Abstract
The subject of the invention is a brake signaling device for a bicycle, comprising a housing containing a lamp, a source of electrical energy for supplying the lamp, arranged behind a transparent wall; a switch operated by a brake and comprising two contacts, one of which is connected by a conductive wire to the source of electrical energy. The two contacts are respectively fixed to the ends of two arms joined at their center by a pivot, the other ends of the two arms being provided with notches defining two small forks which secure the device to the brake cable. Description
~2~S~L
un cadre, au moins un frein constitué par un étrier com-portant deux mâchoires mobiles, et un câble de frein contenu dans une gaine de lon-gueur donnée, le câble étant attaché à l'une au moins des deux mâchoires;
ledit dispositif comportant:
la figure 1 représente une vue en perspective partielle de la partie arrière d'un cadre de bicyclette illustrant les moyens de freinage et le dispositif de signa-lisation en position d'utllisation;

The present invention relates to a dispositi brake signaling system suitable for bicycle the most common types of bicycles, for sale in trade. Such a device is particularly advantageous.
tageux because of its ease of adaptation to conventional bicycles, and because of its reliability.
There are currently many bicycle signage, particularly devices suitable for brake signaling. As example we can refer to the following documents:
U.S. Patents Nos. 2,728,824 3,878,387 4,204,191 If all the devices described in the patents above mentioned have the advantage of indicating the position of the cyclist when he is stopped, they present the disa-common advantage of requiring additional attachment means and not to present a stable and precise fit.
According to the embodiment described in the patent 20 no. 4,204,191, the brake signaling device includes a microswitch with two contacts, connected to the brakes of the bicycle by a means serving as an inter-contactor which during braking comes into contact with one of the brake caliper levers thus allowing by trans-mission of movement at the microswitch, bringing together contacts and the establishment of a current. However, a such a device requires for its adaptation additional means, and moreover requires for its proper functioning an adjustment correct between switch and caliper lever brake which makes its reliability more than uncertain.
According to another embodiment as described in patent no. 3,878,387, the device includes a box and a lamp respectively fixed to the frame of the bicycle by a collar, as well as a conductive tab attached to the housing.
The housing includes a source of electrical energy consisting of two batteries, connected to two electrical terminals mounted on the housing. One of the electrical terminals is connected to the lamp by a conducting wire. The other of the terminals is connected to one end of the conductive tab associated with the housing, the other end of the tongue being free and arranged between the rim of the wheel and one of the mach brake res. So that when braking, the brake caliper shoes tighten on the rim, one of the brake shoes making contact with the ex-free tongue hopper which on the other hand is connected to the second terminal of the housing, itself connected to the lamp.
However, this embodiment requires adjustment perfect housing so that the conductive tab is appropriately positioned. In addition, such a tab although elastic can easily be deformed for example, during a fall from the bicycle, thus compromising the good operation of the device.
The object of the invention is to provide a device which due to the simplicity of its structure, the ease of its fixation and reliability of its adaptation, remedies the advantages previously mentioned.
The device according to the invention comprises a cross 2S of metal formed by two arms joined in their center by a pivot. Advantageously, this cross simultaneously plays the role of switch and means of fixing the switch to the brake cable of a bicycle, without it being necessary to use additional means for its adaptation.
In addition, when the cross is adapted to the brake cable, it is not necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the device to achieve a precise fit, which increases considerably its reliability.
According to the invention, the signaling device of ~ reinage is suitable for a bicycle-te comprising:
a frame, at least one brake consisting of a caliper carrying two movable jaws, and a brake cable contained in a long sheath given, the cable being attached to at least one of the two jaws;
said device comprising:
a housing containing at least one lamp arranged 0 behind a translucent wall, a source of electrical energy to power the lamp, and a switch operated by the brake and comprising two contacts, these contacts being connected by at least one wire conductor at the source of electrical power supplying the lamp, to turn it on when braking, characterized in that:
the two contacts are respectively attached to two arms joined to each other by a pivot, one of the arms being secured to the cable, the other of the arms being secured to the sheath so that, during braking, the voltage of the brake cable to operate the latter brings both arms to get closer and thus cause the contacts to close and establishing the current.
The advantages and other features of the present invention will emerge from the description which will follow, of a preferred embodiment, made with reference to Refer to the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 3 represents a perspective view of the cro ~ x of the braking signaling device of Figures 1 and 2;
FIG. 4 represents a perspective view of the lamp housing of Figure 1;
Figure 5 shows a sectional view along dinaled'a variant of the lamp housing of Figure 1;
Figure 6 shows a front view of the system brake and signaling device of figure adapts it to another type of bicycle, and Figure 6 (a) represents a partial view of a variant of Figure 6.
The bicycle partially shown in the Figure 1 includes a frame 1, a wheel 3, a brake 5 killed by a stirrup 7 comprising two movable jaws 9 and 9 ', a cable contained in a sheath 11, the cable being attached to one of the caliper jaws, a signaling device braking 13 and a housing 15 in which is located a lamp and a source of electrical energy constituted by one or more batteries to power the lamp.
As illustrated in Figure 3, the brake signaling has two arms 17 and 17 'joined together in their center by a pivot 19 to define a cross 21.
Each of the arms has a notch at one of its ends defining a small fork 23 and 23 'each of the small forks with a rounded end as shown at 24 and 24 ', and at the other of its ends, holes 25 and 25 'for fixing contacts. As illustrated in the figure
2, the ends of the carrying arms of the small forks 23 and 23 'are fixed to the brake cable 27 on either side of a spring 29. The other ends of the two arms, opposite to those carrying the forks, are provided with two contacts 31 and 31 'to ensure the role of switch, one of the contacts 31 being rigid, isolated and connected to a source of ener-electrical management by a conducting wire 33 for the transmission s ~
of current, the return being effected by the frame; the other contact 31 'being elastic ~ ue, and its elasticity assured by a spring 35.
By these means, the cross 21 is associated with the braking system comprising the caliper 7 which comprises the two jaws 9 and 9 ', each of the jaws being extended by a lever 37 and 37 ', the cable and the shaft being attached to both levers so as to what, when braking, the tension of the brake cable to operate the latter brings the two ends of the arms bearers of the forks to approach, and through diary of the pivot 19 causes the closure of the contacts 31 and 31 'and the establishment of a current.
Figure 4 illustrates the housing 15. This ~
includes at least one lamp 39, an electric power source stick formed by at least one battery 41 for supplying the lamp, and a translucent wall 43 forming a door for access to the housing. This box can be attached to the frame of the bicycle by a collar 45 or any other ~ 0 medium, and is connected to the signaling device braking via the conductor wire 33 so that, during braking, the lamp lights up.
FIG. 5 illustrates a variant of the housing 15.
This housing includes a lamp 47, at least one battery 49 held in the housing by a fixing tab 51, and a wall 53 consisting of a part 55 playing the role reflector, and part 57 in translucent plastic protruding from the housing, to intensify the emission light during braking.
Figures 6 and 6a illustrate the adaptation of the brake signaling device to another type conventional bicycle in which, as illustrated in Figure 6 each of the two jaws 59 and 59 'is secured to a lever 61 and 61 ', the sheath being ~ ixed to a ~ 3 ~
support means integral with the frame 63 and 63 'and defining a first stop. The brake cable is attached by a attachment means 65 to the middle portion of a second cable the ends of which are respectively attached to one and the other lever or as shown in Figure 6a, the stop and the means of attachment to the middle portion of the second cable define separate means 67 and 69.
By these means, the arms of the cross carrying the forks are attached to the brake cable 71 on both sides of a spring 73, so that, during braking, the tension of the brake cable to operate it brings the two arms to approach and thus cause closure contacts and establishment of the current.
Although the present invention has been described using a preferred embodiment thereof, it should be noted that any modification of this mode of realization sation or other use of it may be made, provided that the scope of the appended claims is respected, without changing the nature of the present invention.
