Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
In coke-oven charging cars, it is known to have a lifting device which raises the cover of the coke-oven chamber to be filled. These covers are set down on the roof in the vicinity of the filler-holes. In this in-vention, the charging car is equipped with a device for receiving the covers, the covers having been placed upon the said device by means of a lifting device.

Description

~07Z~O

he invention relates to a coke-oven charging car having a device for lifting an~ cleaning the filler-hole covers of a coke-oven chamber.
A charging car in which the cover of a coke-oven chamber to be ; filled is raised by means of a lifting device is known in the prior art. `
For the purpose of degraphitizing the oven chambers, the covers are then set down on the roof of the oven in the vicinity of the filler-holes. After the ~`
oven cha~ber has been degraphitized and filled, the covers must be picked up and replaced over the filler-holes. The lifting device operates with an ~ ;
electro-magnet which is rotated by a motor. It has been found that setting the covers down upon the roof of the oven has its disadvantages. ~he main disadvantages is the need to manoeuvre the charging car exactly to the cover resting on the oven roof and this requires a considerable amount of time.
1 Also, the risk of damaging or contaminating the oven roof by setting the covers down thereon is present. Also known is a charging car which has a ` cover-receiving device so that the cover need not be put down upon the roof of the oven.
It is the purpose of the invention to provide a charging car ; which is improved over the prior art cars.
The present invention provides a coke-oven charging car having a lifting device for the filler-hole covers of a coke-oven chamber, the charging car being provided with a cover-receiving device for the filler covers and the lifting device being provided with at least with orle verti-cally displaceable cover holder, by means of which the filler-hole covers are adapted to be deposited on the cover-receiving device, characterized in that the cover-receiving device is provided with a cover cleaning device.
After an oven chamber has been discharged, one of the filler-hole covers is raised by means of the lifting device and is placed on the cover -receiving device. Air now flows into the chamber for the degraphitizing operation. The cover, while being cleaned, is taken by the charging car to the coal-storage tower. After being filled, the charging car takes the cover back to the empty chamber. The chamber is then filled and the cover is `~replaced upon the filler-hole. This sequence of charging car operations is -1- ~ ' 1~72~4~

thus shortened by setting tlle cover down upon the cha~ging car itself and cleaning it thereon, since the said charging car no longer has to be moved in order to pick up the covers after they have been removed from the filler-; holes and the cleaning is carried out at the same time as other operations ; are being performed.
In the drawings which illustrate an embodiment of the invention:
Figure l is a partial view of a coke-oven charging car, with a lifting device grasping a filler-hole cover;
Figure 2 is a view similar to that in Figure 1, with the lifting device holding the filler-hole cover in the cleaning position;
Figure 3 is a view similar to that in Figure 1, with the cover placed upon a cover receiving device; and Figure 4 is a section along the line IV-IV in Figure 3.
With reference to the drawings a charging car is shown to be adapted to travel on an oven roof 1, upon rails (not shown in detail). A coal-storage tower from which the charging car is loaded, is located to the left or right in the figures. Filler-holes 2 for the individual oven chambers are provided in oven roof 1, the filler-holes of one oven chamber being at right angles to the plane of the drawing.
A lifting device 3 is arranged on the charging car, the said device consisting of two lifting rods 5~ 6 engaging with a transverse member 4. An ; electro-magnet 7 is mounted rotatably upon the said transverse member. The said magnet is caused to rotate by means of a drive ~ from a motor 9.
Also fitted to the charging car is a cover receiving device 10 con-sisting of a supporting structure 11 and a supporting surface 12 having a recess 13, the diameter of which corresponds to that of the filler-hole covers 14. Cleaning tools 15, such as scrapers or brushes, are fitted to the edge of the said recess.
Associated with each filler-hole 2 and cover 14 in an oven chamber is a cover receiving device 10 and a lifting device 3. However, only one lifting device may be provided, in ~hich case the said device is mounted to move at right angles to the direction of movement of the charging car. --~

Also arranged on the charging car, in association with the filler- , holes, are filler connections 16 for coal, adapted to be raised and lowered. ;
In Figure 1, filler connection 16 is shown in the raised position. ~
Transverse member 4 is under the filler connection and magnet 7 is in contact ;
with cover 14 of filler-hole 2. Motor 9 is running and an upward movement of lifting rods 5, 6 causes the electro-magne~ to lift the said cover from the filler-hole. Lifting device 3, with cover 14 held by magnet 7, now swings to the left, thus moving cover 14 over recess 13 and the said cover is lower-ed to the position shown in Figure 2. With the aid of motor 9 and magnet 7, `, 10cover 14 is now rotated between cleaning tools 15 for the purpose of removing any deposit from the edge of the said cover.
The magnet is then switched off and lifted off the cover (Figure 3).
In this position, the charging car is moved or ~he filler connections 16 are ~`
introduced into filler holes 2 for the purpose of filling the oven chamber.
