The quick call message indicates that a communication request has been received and that the receiving communication terminals must process a complete, highly encoded call channel, through which complete, more detailed call messages (32) are transmitted during the next full call slot. A terminal monitors the complete call channel only after a quick call message has been received through the quick call channel.
