Abstract

OF FOCUSING PARTICLES IN A FLOW OF FLUID AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A FLUID WITH GENDER-BIDDED SPERM CELLS. Microfluidic devices and methods for focusing components in a fluid sample are described here. Microfluidic devices feature a microfluidic chip having a microchannel having a constricting portion that narrows in width and a flow focusing region downstream of the microchannel. The flux focusing region includes a positively sloped bottom surface that reduces a height of the flux focusing region and side walls that taper to reduce a width of the flux focusing region, thereby geometrically constricting the flux focusing region. The devices and methods can be used in sex screening of sperm cells to improve performance and increase eligibility.
