estação base e método de operação de uma estação base. a invenção refere-se a uma estação base (100) para uma rede de comunicações celular, em que a referida estação base (100) está configurada para controlar pelo menos um sistema de antena (110), que compreende uma pluralidade de elementos de antena (110a, 110b, 110c, ..., 110n), em que pelo menos dois elementos de antena (110a, 110b) estão dispostos em diferentes posições verticais (pa, pb) com referência a um plano virtual horizontal (p). a estação base (100) é ainda configurada para transmitir sinais pilotos específicos (d1, d2) sobre os recursos de rádio ortogonais associados com os referidos sinais pilotos específicos (d1, d2), através de elementos de antena diferentes (110a, 110b).
