Abstract

"POLINIZADOR APERFEIçOADO E MéTODO PARA AUMENTAR A PRODUçãO DE MELANCIAS SEM SEMENTES". A presente invenção refere-se a uma planta de melancia polinizadora diplóide aperfeiçoada e a um método usado para maximizar a produção de plantas de melancias sem sementes triplóides por área. A planta de melancia polinizadora aperfeiçoada da invenção é também uma variedade híbrida, uma variedade polinizada aberta ou uma variedade sintética, que exibe as características de pequenas folhas e frutos com casca quebradiça, a qual se separa quando o fruto se torna excessivamente maduro ou se quebra quando forças físicas relativamente pequenas são aplicadas. A planta de melancia da invenção é também preferencialmente caracterizada pela prolongada duração da floração, aumentando, dessa forma, o número de flores de melancia triplóides que são polinizadas e produzem frutos. O método para produção de um fruto de melancia sem sementes, inclui as etapas de proporcionar uma planta de melancia polinizadora diplóide, que prolonga a duração da floração da planta polinizadora, ao mesmo tempo em que reduz o número de tais plantas que são necessárias para polinizar o mesmo número de plantas de melancia triplóides e maximiza a dispersão da planta polinizadora de melancia por todo o campo de plantas de melancia triplóides.
