Abstract
"MéTODOS PARA ESTABILIZAR E CONTROLAR APOMIXIA". A presente invenção refere-se à indução, estabilização e controle de apomixia (formação de semente assexuada) em angiospermas para o propósito de produzir, melhorar e economicamente usar colheitas agâmicas de rendimento superior (colheitas possuindo uma capacidade para tanto produção de semente sexuada quanto apomíctica). " Estabilização" de apomixia refere-se a processos ou que convertem um apomíctico facultativo para apomixia obrigatória ou que conferem mecanismos a um apomíctico facultativo que evita, durante a formação de semente sexuada facultativa, a recombinação de genes que causa apomixia de modo que progênies sexualmente produzidas do dito apomíctico facultativo herdam as combinações alélicas requeridas para apomixia. Mais especificamente, a presente invenção diz respeito a (i) a produção de duas ou mais séries de linhagens sexuadas geneticamente divergentes, ou endógamas ou submetidas ao cruzamento não aparentado, cujas séries das linhagens de origem permanecem homozigotos para os genes que causam apomixia quando os híbridos forem produzidos mediante cruzamento de um membro de uma das tais séries de linhagens com um membro da outra série, (ii) a hibridização de linhagens de origem sexuada herdadas ou de cruzamento não aparentado para produzir apomícticos, (iii) a estabilização de tais apomícticos através de modificações citogenéticas ou moleculares, (iv) a melhora de apomícticos reproduzindo ou geneticamente elaborando linhagens de origem ou apomícticas, (v) a modificação de apomícticos facultativos para abortar meiose feminina resultando em apomixia obrigatória exceto quando um DNA recombinante que aborta meiose for inibido, e (vi) a modificação de apomícticos facultativos para manterem-se facultativos exceto durante expressão induzível de um DNA recombinante que causa apomixia obrigatória abortando a meiose. The present invention relates to the induction, stabilization and control of apomixis (asexual seed formation) in angiosperms for the purpose of producing, improving and economically using higher yielding dynamic crops (crops having a capacity for both sexed and apomictic seed production) ). Apomixis "Stabilization" refers to processes that either convert an optional apomictic to mandatory apomixis or which confer mechanisms to an optional apomictic that prevents, during the formation of optional sexual seed, the recombination of genes that causes apomixis so that sexually progenies produced from the optional apomictic saying inherit the allelic combinations required for apomixis. More specifically, the present invention concerns (i) the production of two or more series of genetically divergent sexed lines, or endogamous or subjected to unrelated crossbreeding, whose series of the original lines remain homozygous for the genes that cause apomixis when the hybrids are produced by crossing a member of one of the series of strains with a member of the other series, (ii) the hybridization of strains of inherited sexed origin or from unrelated crosses to produce apomictics, (iii) the stabilization of such apomictics through cytogenetic or molecular modifications, (iv) the improvement of apomictics reproducing or genetically elaborating original or apomictic strains, (v) the modification of facultative apomictics to abort female meiosis resulting in mandatory apomixis except when a recombinant DNA that aborts meiosis is inhibited , and (vi) the modification of optional drugs active to remain optional except during inducible expression of recombinant DNA that causes obligatory apomixis by aborting meiosis. The various facets of these biological operation systems can be selectively combined for effective production, improvement and use of dynamic crops.
