Abstract
The invention relates to a catalyst which is used in themethod for scrubbing of waste (exhaust) gases under pressureproduced after the oxidation of paraxylene (p-X) with air inliquid phase in the preparation of dimethylterephthalate (DMT).The catalyst contains as components: (a) at least one oxide oftitanium, and (b) at least one element of Subgroup VIII of thePeriodic system of elements in a metal and/or oxide form. Theinvention also relates to a method for the preparation of such acatalyst where components (b) are applied on moulded bodiescontaining at least component (a), either independently or incombination and by submerging and/or by continuous impregnation.The invention also relates to a method for scrubbing the exchaustgases under pressure as wastes after the oxidation of paraxylene(p-X) with air in liquid phase in the production ofdimethylterephtalate. The oxygen-containing exhaust gas underpressure from the oxidation gets through one- or multi-stagecondensation, one- or multi-stage absorption and subsequentadditional burning, optionally with the addition of oxygencatalytically under pressure. The mentioned catalyst is used forthe additional catalytic burning.21 claims
