<EMI ID=1.1>
Shoe and friction brake for railway vehicles.
The present invention relates to a shoe brake and friction for rail vehicles, which is formed by a pressurized fluid cylinder as an actuating cylinder by which the brake shoe biased by
the piston rod is actuated and to which it is connected, it being understood that the brake lining is replaceable on the lining holder.
Such devices are described in the German patent DE-PS 11 53 412 and in the German utility model DE-GM 69 24 556, the brake shoe being
<EMI ID = 1.1>
tone of the actuating cylinder. The drawback of this rigid connection is obvious. The device conforming to the utility model has the possibility of moving the brake shoe, but only along an axis parallel to the axis of the wheel. Furthermore, there remains the drawback that, by this connection of the brake shoe and the piston rod, all the vibrations, which can be considerable, can be transmitted from the brake shoe by means of the piston rod to the piston, which can contribute to rapid deterioration of the piston.
In this known construction, due to the relative immobility, the brake lining also requires a longer period of time to be applied completely against the tire of the wheel or against the running surface so that, within the limits of the break-in period of the brake lining, the elimination of the flats from the running surface of the rail wheel cannot be carried out completely, which constitutes an essential aim of this device.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a shoe or friction brake in which, when the brake lining is applied against the rolling surface of the wheel, the entire surface of the brake lining s apply immediately to the running surface and the brake lining can participate in or compensate for all wheel movements. In addition, the drawbacks of known devices must be avoided.
This object of the invention is achieved by the fact that between the carrier and the piston rod of the actuating cylinder is mounted an elastic connecting piece.
The elastic connecting piece is advantageously a metal-rubber-metal element.
The metal-rubber-metal connecting piece is advantageously made of two ferrules arranged concentrically one inside the other, which are glued
by vulcanization to an intermediate rubber ring and the inner ferrule as well as the outer ferrule are fixed permanently and without being able to rotate respectively to the piston rod and to the gasket holder.
The advantage of the device according to the invention lies in the fact that on the one hand, the brake shoe
or friction can follow all the movements of the rail wheel, which results in an improvement in the rectification of the flats of the wheel. On the other hand, all shocks and vibrations, which act on the brake shoe, are maintained without effect on the piston rod-
and so on the piston of the actuating cylinder, this
which greatly increases the life of the cylinder.
An embodiment of the invention will be described below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal section
of the device, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the
line II-II of FIG. 1.
Any fluid pressure cylinder 11
as an actuating cylinder, which comprises means 12 intended to fix it to the bogies or to the chassis
of the vehicle, carries a piston rod 13 connected to the piston and whose front end 14 is rounded. The piston rod 13 is disposed in the pressurized fluid cylinder 11 so as not to be able to rotate, relative to the latter, this rotation being avoided by means of well known means. On the end of the piston rod 13 leaving the cylinder 11 is pressed firmly the inner ferrule
14 of a metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16. The connecting piece 16 is in this case formed of two ferrules arranged concentrically one inside the other and having the form of rings 15 and 17 which are bonded by vulcanization on an intermediate rubber ring 18.
The outer shell 17 is arranged in a round opening 19 provided in the back of the brake lining holder 20 and is pressed into place at this location or fixed by means of screws 21. As shown in FIG. 2, the screws 21 are arranged in notches or recesses 22 in the outer shroud 17, which surely prevents a relative rotational movement of the brake lining holder 20 relative to the metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16 and thus to the piston rod 13. The brake lining holder 20 is provided, in a known manner, with means intended to receive the brake lining 23 and a brake lining holder locking 27, for example according to DE-PS patent 24 34 004.
On its rear face, the brake lining carrier 20 carries a cap 24 in which the rounded end 14 of the piston rod
13 is applied against the brake lining holder 20. To guarantee lasting contact, the metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16 is prestressed in the direction of pressure of the brake lining holder 20 against the piston rod. 13. A bellows 26 is fixed to the fixing flange 25 of the jack 11 by a clamp, the other side of the bellows being fixed to the rear part of the brake lining holder 20 by means of a clamp.
In putting the device according to the invention into practice, any pressurized fluid cylinder 11 can be used, the dimensions of the cylinder and the pressurized fluid being able to be adapted to requirements. Various fixing possibilities can also be provided. The rest position of the device shown in FIG. 1 is obtained by the return spring present in the cylinder 11, and in this position the brake lining 23 is spaced from the rolling surface of the rail wheel. If pressure is now admitted into the cylinder 11 via the intake valve, the piston rod 13 leaves the cylinder of the cylinder 11 until the brake lining 23 is pressed against the surface of the railway wheel and brakes or wears out the flats.
Thanks to the prestressing of the metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16, the brake lining carrier 20 is biased towards the piston rod 13 in such a way that the end
14 of the piston rod 13 is placed firmly in the cap 24 of the brake lining holder 20. The dreaded shocks upon actuation of the device are thereby avoided. The metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16 guarantees that the brake lining 23 can move along the three axes to the point of being applied exactly on the running surface of the rail wheel. Simultaneously, the metal-rubber-metal connecting piece 16, however, preserves the pressurized fluid cylinder, in particular its piston against all the shocks and vibrations which are transmitted by the wheel to the brake lining.
The bellows 26 protects the space provided between the pressurized fluid cylinder 11 and the brake lining holder 20 against dust and dirt, and thanks to its intervention, the exit of the piston rod 13 from the cylinder of the cylinder.
11 is particularly spared.
A worn brake lining 23 can be easily removed from the dovetail slide by opening the lock 27 of the brake lining holder, and replaced by a new brake lining 23.
The cross section of the ferrules 15 and 17 can have any desired shape, for example it can be round, quadrangular, triangular, etc.
