<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The invention also relates to the production of a composition. of storable floor covering, which can be applied cold.
Another object of the invention is the production of such a colored floor covering composition.
According to a characteristic of the invention, these objects are achieved by providing a binder for a floor covering composition consisting
EMI2.1
..
- from 98.5 to 99; 5% by weight of a mixture formed from = 62 to 77% by weight of calcium naphthenate.

EMI3.1
According to yet another composition, comprises 1.2% by weight of red iron oxide.
According to another characteristic of the composition, the aggregate comprises from 2.5 to 3.5% by weight of green chromium oxide.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the description below, which gives, by way of example only, various embodiments of the invention.
The base resin constituting the binder results from the neutralization of mineral oils, and consists essentially of calcium naphthnate which, by its nature, allows easy pigmentation when mixed with the aggregates.
This base resin is fluidized by a mixture of fluidizing oils. Preferably, coal oils will be used, namely anthracene and medium phenolic oils, which give the mass thus fluidized a good plasticity.
With a view to constituting the binder, 62 to 77% by weight of calcium naphthenate and 38 to 23% by weight of fluidifying oils will be mixed. The amount of fluidizing oils added to the base resin will depend on the penetration of the resin. The lower this penetration, the greater the amount of. Thinning oils should be large, and vice versa.
To this mixture, a dope of adhesion is added allowing, on the one hand, better attachment of the binder to the aggregates to which it will be mixed for the constitution of a floor covering composition, and on the other hand avoiding, after mixing, the dc-senrobage of aggregates. The coating dope is added to the mixture in the proportions of 0.5 to 1.5% by weight of dope per 99.5 to 98.5% by weight of mixture of calcium naphthenate and thinning oils.
In general, all the adhesive dopes present
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on the market can be employed.
Preferably, use will be made. a dope constitutes a diamine, which facilitates and improves the attachment of the binder in which it is. intimately dispersed on the support of the stony skeleton used. Such a dope particularly has its raison d'être for materials of an acidic nature (sandstone, porphyry) and facilitates its coating.
With a view to constituting a coating composition, the binder as defined. above is incorporated into an aggregate, consisting of stones, crushing sand and filler.
According to one embodiment of the invention, an aggregate of the following composition will be used for obtaining a coating composition of grain size 0/4, respectively 0/8: Coating 0/4 Coating 0/8 Stones 2 / 4 80% Scrap stones 2/8 80% Crushing sand 15% Crushing sand 15% Filler. 5% Filler 5%
If a colored coating composition is desired, the aggregate will be made up from 98.5 to 90% by weight of a mixture of stones, crushing sand, filler as defined above and from 1.5 10% by weight of a pigment.
A red-colored floor covering composition will for example be obtained by incorporating 1.5 to 2.5% by weight of red iron oxide into the aggregate.
Likewise, a green colored floor covering composition will be obtained by incorporating 2.5.5% by weight of green chromium oxide into the aggregate, a yellow colored floor covering composition will be obtained by incorporating to the aggregate of 6 to 7% by weight of chromium yellow, and a colored floor covering composition
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in white will be obtained by incorporating into the aggregate from 9 to 10% by weight of titanium white. The use of these two
EMI5.1
However, the latter pigments increase the cost price of the composition. It goes without saying that, depending on the coloration desired, other pigments can. also be used.
For the constitution of the floor covering composition, 95% to 94.8% by weight are incorporated
EMI5.2
aggregate, 5 to 5, by weight of binder.
2% This is done in a conventional coating installation, at a temperature not exceeding 90 C. This upper temperature limit is fixed in order to prevent the departure of the fluidifying oils from the binder.
The floor covering composition thus obtained can be used up to temperatures as low as 15 C, after an open air storage period of up to 3 months. However, such extended storage periods are not desirable.
Given the good workability of the composition obtained, its implementation can be carried out both manually, using traditional tools (forks, rakes), and by means of finishers. This good workability, due to the binder, allows, then. the laying of the covering, to avoid surface heterogeneities, rework of finishers and longitudinal joints.
The covering is laid in a known manner on a stable and clean foundation, the thickness of which is determined according to the traffic it has to support. The support on which the coating is placed will have a maximum drainage quality, allowing on the one hand the rapid evacuation of surface water, and on the other hand facilitating the easy evaporation of fluidifying oils.
According to a preferred embodiment of. the invention, the thickness of the carpet laid is between
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
2 and: 3 cm, which corresponds to 45 to 70 kg / m. After spreading and uniform distribution of the floor covering composition over the entire surface to be covered, it is subjected to the action of a suitable compacting device, giving the floor covering the required hardening without any joint joints being perceptible. .
The floor covering thus produced is suitable for. Particularly well, by the workability of the composition, the finish of the coating obtained, and the ability of the composition to be colored, to the realization of sports fields, tennis, surroundings of dwellings, paths and alleys of garden etc.
The invention has been described simply by way of non-limiting example, and it goes without saying that many modifications can be made to its realization without departing from its spirit.
