<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The Company called: MANNESMANN AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT in Düsseldorf (Federal Republic of Germany) Cooling device for blast furnace armor. C. I.: Patent application of the Federal Republic of Germany P 32 35 902.0 filed on September 24, 1982.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a cooling device for blast furnaces provided with cooling boxes, consisting of metal cooling pockets arranged, on the outside, on the shield of the blast furnace and tightly secured thereto, which pockets are provided elastic prestressed bands projecting from the upper edge of the wall of the cooling pocket extending circumferentially from the blast furnaces and intended to guide the cooling water to the shield.
German patent 25 36 322 describes such a cooling device. Because of the rigid shape of the cooling bags provided in this case, different thermal expansions, between the shield of the blast furnace and cooling bags, frequently cause warping of the cooling bags. In addition, the production of elastic bands, in the construction of which reinforcing elements are incorporated, next to the water guide channels, involves, comparatively, high manufacturing costs.
The object of the present invention is to improve the cooling device of the above type, so that the thermal stresses appearing on the cooling bags are compensated, and that the guidance of the intended cooling water is maintained, while by allowing a simplified manufacture of the elastic band.
To solve this problem, there is provided, according to the invention, a cooling device for a blast furnace shield provided with cooling boxes, composed of metal cooling pockets arranged, on the outside, on the shield and subject to it. which pockets are provided with pre-elastic bands

stacks, projecting from the upper edge of the cooling pocket, extending circumferentially to the blast furnace and intended to guide the cooling water to the shield, and characterized in that the wall of the cooling pocket , carrying the strip, is provided with ribs extending from the upper edge to the line of contact with the shielding, and in that the strip has the form of a flat plate up to the limits of the ribs,
and leaves a section open at the lower end of the ribs.
Advantageously, the strip extends above the line of contact between the wall which supports it and the shield, by

report to said shielding and is provided, in the part all about the shielding, with cutouts.
The wall, at the location of the contact line, in the outer region of the rib, is welded to the shield and is adapted, by conformation to the shield, in the region of the ribs.
In addition, the ribs may have sections of semi-circular shape, for guiding the cooling water.
Thanks to the invention, the cooling bags can withstand tensions resulting from thermal expansion different from the cooling bags and the shield of the blast furnace, while retaining all their functional efficiency. In addition, the simplified shape of the elastic band necessary for guiding the water in the cooling pocket results in a reduction in manufacturing costs.
The figures of the appended drawings will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figure 1 shows, in elevation, a portion of the entire general device, provided with boxes and cooling pockets.
Figure 2 is a portion of Figure 1, in side view.
Figure 3 is a cross section of a cooling bag, near one of its side walls, along line B-B in Figure 1.
Figure 4 shows a cross section corresponding to Figure 3, but with a modified strip.
FIG. 5 is a development of the wall of a cooling pocket carrying the strip, in which the cutting line B'-B'corresponds to the cutting line B-B in FIG. 1.
Figures 1 and 2 schematically show the general cooling device of a blast furnace, in the shielding area of the blast furnace, in the display and in the lower area of the chimney. While the cooling of the jacket of the furnace must be carried out by the cooling boxes (9), the shielding of the blast furnace is, in turn, cooled by water runoff. To obtain uniform cooling, in particular in the area below the cooling boxes, the cooling water which flows is collected and led by the cooling pockets (1), arranged in an offset manner under the 'other.
In Figure 3, there is shown a cooling pocket connected to the shield of the blast furnace and consisting of side walls (10) and the wall (2) and an attached elastic band (7). The connection between, on the one hand the walls
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
side (10) and, on the other hand the shield (5) of the blast furnace and the wall (2) is made by welding. The wall (2) has numerous ribs (6), of semi-circular section and directed inwards. As can be seen from the development of the wall (2), (Figure 5), the ribs (6) extend perpendicular to the longitudinal expansion of the wall (2). In an advantageous embodiment, the ribs (6) have a depth of approximately 12 mm and are spaced, one below the other, by approximately 100 mm.
In the area of the contact line (4) between the wall (2) and the shield (5) of the blast furnace, the wall (2) is welded to the shield of the blast furnace. The wall (2), in the region of the ribs (6) is adapted, each time, only by conformation, so that, at this location, there is no rigid connection. By this, it is obtained that different thermal expansions between the shield (5) of the blast furnace and the wall (2) are compensated by the ribs (6), functioning as a compensator, and that uncontrolled warping is avoided in the wall (2), without substantially reducing the section of the ribs (6). The ribs (6) are, on the outside, covered by the elastic band (7) extending flat, in the remaining part of the wall (2), until an opening in the lower part of the ribs.
The hollow space, thus delimited by the rib (6), open upwards and downwards, constitutes an appropriate guide channel, controlling the flow of the cooling water. Impurities in the cooling water are partly deposited on the bottom of the cooling bags, or are ejected through the openings of the ribs (6), without blocking them. The elastic band (7) is fixed to the wall (2), in a known manner, by means of screwed tabs (11). Furthermore, to obtain the most airtight contact possible with the wall (2), the strip (7) is fixed, this time again, in a known manner, by pretensioning, by means of stress bolts, on the outside on the walls
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
side (10).
In FIG. 4, the strip (7) is produced so that it extends as far as the shield (5) of the oven. To ensure the flow of cooling water, cutouts (8) are, in this case, provided at the bottom of the strip (7).
Thanks to the device according to the invention, a controlled flow of cooling water is obtained, which ensures uniform cooling, even in the case of different thermal expansions, appearing between the furnace shield and cooling pockets. The elastic band, necessary for guiding the water, is, in comparison with the forms known up to now, appreciably simplified, and consequently, its manufacture is less expensive.
