<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
The present invention relates to an edging, that is to say
to a ribbon intended to read or border all kinds of objects, namely generally woven or knitted objects, and this for decorative effects or to prevent fraying or disintegration.
A very particular application of ribbons of this kind is encountered in the manufacture of carpets, which, as we know, are often bordered by a peripheral protective tape, formed by the incorporation of a spiral wire by manual or mechanical and used to improve the aesthetic appearance of the carpet and avoid destruction by unraveling or deterioration by unscrewing or disintegration. The incorporation of this spiral is however a laborious task, even if it is done mechanically.
However, the present invention relates to a tape to be edged, capable of being fixed very easily and quickly, for example by mechanical means, to the edge of carpets or other objects to improve the aesthetic appearance or to prevent it. deterioration by fraying, unraveling or other anological phenomena, tape which after being fixed to the object concerned shows practically the same appearance of a border or edge produced in the traditional way, for example in the manufacture of carpets, as said above -above.
The edging ribbon according to the invention consists, for this purpose, mainly of a support and of a multitude of floating wires juxtaposed and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis
of the support to which they are attached.
Needless to say, the actual ribbon to be edged can be manufactured by any suitable technique, such as weaving, picking, knitting, etc., whether or not continuously, one side of this ribbon being provided suitably any floating transverse son, that is to say perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, which are arranged one beside the other over the entire length of the support.
The characteristics of the invention will emerge more clearly from the following detailed description of some preferred embodiments, given without any restrictive intention and illustrated by the appended drawing, in which FIG. 1 schematically and in perspective represents part of a ribbon to be read according to a first embodiment of the invention:
Figures 2 to 5 show views similar to that according to Figure 1, but other embodiments; FIG. 6 represents in perspective a part of a carpet provided all around with a ribbon to be edged according to the invention; and FIG. 7 represents a schematic section of the carpet according to FIG. 6, made along line VII-VII of the latter. FIG. 1 represents an edging tape 1 according to the invention, which mainly consists of a support tape 2, on which is arranged a multitude of partially free floating wires 3, which are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the support and fixed only to the lateral edges 4 and 5 of the latter.
The support tape 2 can be manufactured by any suitable technique, such as weaving, picking, knitting or other, and this is either directly in the desired width, or in larger widths, means being provided in the latter case to cut the ribbon into narrower ribbons.
The floating threads 3 can be formed in any suitable manner, such as, for example, by means of weft threads
<EMI ID = 1.1>
or weft threads of the support 2 itself or by a combination of these two methods, or using one or more warp threads, etc.
The floating wires extend, in the embodiment according to FIG. 1, from one side to the other of the support 2, while in the embodiment according to FIG. 2, they begin and end
<EMI ID = 2.1>
so as to leave between the beginning or the end of each floating wire, on the one hand, and the corresponding lateral edge 4 or 5 of the support, on the other hand, a more or less wide area, respec-
<EMI ID = 3.1>
special application conditions.
It goes without saying that one or the other of the two zones 6 and 7 may, if necessary, be deleted.
Figure 3 relates to an embodiment characterized in that each of the floating wires consists of two parts 8 and 9, while Figure 4 relates to an embodiment characterized in that each of the floating wires 3 is divided in three <EMI ID = 4.1>
threads at one or more points by weaving, sewing or any other suitable technique.
Finally, FIG. 5 represents an embodiment characterized in that the points of implantation of the floating wires 3 in the support 2 are arranged in a zigzag, so that each floating wire covers a point of attachment of the preceding wire with the result not only a noticeable improvement
beautiful appearance, but also mechanical resistance of the ribbon.
In the embodiments illustrated in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5, one or two marginal zones 6 and / or 7 may also be left uncovered, just as it is possible to provide free zones devoid of floating wires between the wires
8 and 9 and wires 10 and 11 or between wires 11 and 12.
It goes without saying that the production of ribbons to be read out of this kind is not limited to the embodiments described above. Thus, for example, that, according to a particular embodiment, the support 2 can be totally or partially omitted. Indeed, it is possible to limit the support to the marginal zones 6 and 7, where the floating wires are implanted, or else to interrupt the support at regular intervals
or not without interrupting the floating wires.
Figures 6 and 7 show by way of nonlimiting example part of a carpet 13 provided with a border 1 according to the invention, which is simply folded around the edge of the carpet and fixed there, as shown in the figure schematic 7 at level 14, by any suitable means, such as sewing, gluing or other.
As clearly shown in FIG. 6, a finishing of the carpet 13 is thus carried out which is identical to the traditional finishing, apart from the fact that the edging of the carpet with the tape 1 according to the invention proves to be much simpler, quick and economical than traditional edging and gives a better quality edging.
It goes without saying that, on the one hand, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments described in the preceding lines and illustrated by the appended figures and that, on the other hand, the field of application of the lines according to the invention is not limited to the manufacture of carpets, but extends to many other fields where it is a question of partially or totally reading objects of all kinds either for decorative effects or for their protection against deterioration by fraying, loosening, etc.
